(Tomorrow is National Day, so let me wish all my readers an early happy holiday!)
"Holy crap! What a monster! Rhea Yang, wake up—something serious is coming!" Evan Chu practically shouted.
Rhea Yang hadn’t really been asleep; camping out in the wild with a guy, she couldn’t possibly relax, always wary that Evan Chu might try something inappropriate.
At Evan’s shout, she instantly sprang up, every muscle on alert, staring at him in shock. "Where’s the monster beast?" she demanded.
No sooner had Rhea spoken than she sensed clear movement about ten meters ahead. She gripped her sword tighter and, by the firelight, finally saw the giant serpent’s true form—her heart skipped a beat in fear.
The serpent had a massive horn a meter long on its head, its mouth gaping wide to reveal gleaming fangs, and every breath stank of rot. Its body stretched nearly ten meters, covered in palm-sized scales, and under its jaw was a patch of white scales that looked oddly out of place.
By now, the serpent was less than five meters from Rhea. "Oh hell! That thing wants to kill me!" she yelled, slashing at it with her sword like lightning.
Evan Chu also prepared to attack—the serpent radiated a primal sense of danger. This was no ordinary low-rank monster beast; it could easily be rank five, maybe even a terrifying rank six or seven.
It gave off a suffocating pressure, just like the third-layer Earth Martial elder from the City Lord's Mansion had once done—absolutely terrifying. But now, Evan Chu didn’t find that level the least bit intimidating.
Rhea leapt forward, her sword slamming down on the serpent’s head, then she dodged back in a flash. But striking its head was like hitting steel—her hand ached from the impact.
Shocked, she cried out, "What the hell is this thing? I put everything into that strike and didn’t even scratch its skin! Evan Chu, be careful—this monster is seriously tough!"
She instantly retreated dozens of meters, spinning her sword in front of her chest to form several sword flowers. Water element molecules began gathering around her, and in just a few breaths, Evan Chu saw her surrounded by a thick mist.
"Hey, monster! Let me show you what my martial skill can do—let’s see if your scales can really handle the power of my martial art fused with elemental force!"
Evan Chu was stunned by Rhea’s mastery of water element—everyone around him seemed to have grasped elemental power, while he still hadn’t touched the threshold. It stung a little.
Suddenly, all the water element molecules around Rhea converged at her sword tip. With a flash of dazzling light, a meter-long sword beam and countless water arrows shot toward the giant serpent with unstoppable force.
Bang! With a deafening crash, Rhea was dumbfounded by the results. Her Profound-tier martial skill fused with water element only managed to knock off fewer than ten scales and draw a faint trace of blood. She’d barely broken through its defense—this was insane.
That was her strongest attack so far, but the serpent, stung all over by her blow, thrashed wildly and let out an ear-splitting hiss. Its enormous body snapped trees in half, and the murderous glow in its eyes was chilling in the night.
Then the serpent locked onto Evan Chu as its target, charging at him at full speed and spitting a white beam from its mouth.
"Careful, that stuff it’s spitting is deadly poison!" Rhea Yang shouted as the serpent’s mouth sprayed its attack.
Rhea had been best friends with Lily Tang since childhood, and the Tang Sect and Yang Gate had always been close. Thanks to Lily, Rhea was well-versed in poisons—so she could tell at a glance how dangerous the serpent’s venom was.
At Rhea’s warning, Evan Chu quickly used Shifting Position to dodge aside—he’d already learned to be wary of poison from her. The moment she said it was deadly, his first instinct was to get out of the way.
The serpent’s attack was actually its saliva. Once Evan steadied himself, he saw the ground nearby had been eaten away into a deep pit. Any venom that could corrode the earth like that was seriously dangerous.
It was Evan’s first time seeing serpent spit corrode the ground, and it made him even more cautious about this beast—his mind was racing with ways to kill it.
The serpent was surprised its venom hadn’t killed the puny human in front of it.
It immediately whipped its massive body at Evan Chu, the huge horn on its head aiming straight for him, moving so fast it left afterimages—matching the speed of Evan’s Wave-Skimming Steps.
Evan quickly calculated: at this distance, dodging once would avoid the main attack, but he’d never escape that giant tail—if it hit, he’d be half-dead even if he survived.
He hurriedly chained Shifting Position twice, reappearing fifteen meters away. As his strength grew, the distance he could cover with Shifting Position kept increasing.
Rhea’s face went pale—she saw the serpent’s horn smash into Evan, not realizing it was only his afterimage. His real body was long gone.
"You’ve got to be kidding! You think I’m that easy to kill?" Evan gripped his Frostbane Sword and unleashed the eighth form of Windchaser Sword Codex—Wind Over the World. If he could hurt it with a powerful martial skill, maybe he could grind it down to death.
Evan had a plan: if this move worked, he’d keep spamming it until the serpent died; if not, he’d have to try Heart-Sword or the plain-looking sword strike.
If those failed too, he’d have to draw on the Bloodshadow Berserker Lion’s power inside him and use Lion Spirit Fist to finish it.
A cold killing intent flashed in Evan’s eyes. Countless wind blades erupted from the tip of his Frostbane Sword, crashing down on the serpent with thunderous force.
Evan knew exactly how strong this attack was. With his current power and Chaos Qi, it was a full-force strike on par with a fourth-layer Earth Martial expert.
But the result left him speechless: the wind blades made a clattering noise as they hit, knocking off a few dozen scales—just a bit better than Rhea’s earlier attack, but still no real threat to the beast.
"So your defense is that tough? Then let’s see what my Heart-Sword can do—let me show you the power of a true divine weapon!" Evan declared, preparing to unleash Heart-Sword.
The serpent let out a harsh screech, then spat a cloud of black mist at Evan Chu…
