Ask for a Clear Answer
Baxa nodded.
The three of them, along with Lily Bai and Nine Li, returned to the Primeval Demon Wilds.
On the way, Damian Black didn’t say a single word to her.
Sometimes Lily Bai would deliberately try to talk to him, but he was so cold she couldn’t get close.
It was as if something had changed after she went to the Lumina Realm.
But the feeling was so subtle, she couldn’t put her finger on it.
She couldn’t just ask him directly: “Why are you suddenly treating me like this?”
If he asked, what should I be like to you?
And how would she answer?
Lily Bai used the Lovebound Summoning Art to call out the fake Damian Black.
The moment he appeared, he said, "You haven’t called for me in ages."
"When the real one’s here, why would I bother with the fake?" Lily Bai replied.
"So why are you looking for me now?"
Lily Bai reclined on the bed, fiddling with her bangs. After a while, she asked, "How do I win Damian Black’s heart?"
Fake Damian Black stared at her for a long moment and asked, "Who wants to win him over?"
"Me, obviously!" Lily Bai said. "Are you just pretending not to know?"
"You won’t succeed," replied fake Damian Black.
"Why not?" Lily Bai cupped her cheeks. "Am I not pretty enough?"
"Even if you were prettier, you still wouldn’t succeed."
"Why not!"
"Because he never planned to settle down."
Lily Bai paused, then said, "People change! If he falls in love with a girl, he’ll want to."
"Don’t you get what I’m saying?"
"What?"
"He doesn’t love you."
Lily Bai froze for a second, then kicked him in the leg. "Liar! He totally likes me!"
"Has he ever told you he likes you?"
"He hasn’t said it, but he definitely does!"
"Every woman around him thinks that."
Lily Bai: "..."
"Stop daydreaming," said the fake Damian Black. "Think about your master—he’s still on Leo Li’s ship. Think about your parents. If you openly follow a traitorous Demon Emperor, what will happen to them?"
"But he’s innocent!" Lily Bai protested. "I could fight alongside him and clear his name!"
Fake Damian Black smiled faintly. "You’re too naive."
Lily Bai: "Get lost!"
Damian Black vanished before her eyes.
Lily Bai lay on her bed, playing dead for a while, feeling like this was pure torture.
She decided to just go ask him directly!
If he really doesn’t like her, then fine.
At least she wouldn’t spend all day overthinking.
She was the type to act first and think later, so she headed straight for Damian Black’s place.
When she arrived, she saw Skye standing in the courtyard. He looked at her and asked, "Here to see His Highness?"
"He’s here, right?" Lily Bai asked.
"He’s not."
"Not here?" Lily Bai craned her neck to peek inside. "Where did he go?"
"No idea."
"Alright... I’ll come back later," Lily Bai said, and left again.
Two hours later, she went back, but Skye still said Damian Black wasn’t there and had no idea where he’d gone.
Lily Bai took out a strand of hair and said, "He’s definitely inside."
Skye’s gaze landed on the hair. "What do you mean?"
"It’s his hair. I tracked him through it—he’s in the room."
"How did you get his hair?"
"You’re just a servant—aren’t you asking a bit much?" Lily Bai dodged past him and headed for the house.
Of course Lily Bai wasn’t about to admit she’d yanked it out while bored, riding in Damian Black’s arms as he used Swiftstride.
Skye didn’t try to stop her.
But when she went inside, Damian Black was nowhere to be seen.
He wasn’t in the room.
