Ungrateful Wolves

Lily was busy cooking in the kitchen when she suddenly heard Grandma Evans shouting loudly in the courtyard. She wiped her hands and walked out.

"Oh, we've got guests," Lily squinted her eyes at Grandma Evans, deliberately emphasizing the word "guests."

The implication was clear: you're guests, so don't act like you own the place!

Grandma Evans grew even more anxious, especially seeing the table loaded with chicken, duck, and fish—how could they be eating so well!

Grandma Evans led the Evans family around the courtyard in a huff, eyeing the furniture. It was obvious the best wood and craftsmen had been used. Just look at those beautiful carvings!

Even the ornaments in the rooms had an air of scholarly elegance, almost matching the style of the Green Seedling Academy where Simon Evans studied.

Except for the fourth branch of the Evans family, everyone else was practically drooling with envy.

"Lily, tidy up the house. We're moving in soon," Grandma Evans said, her eyes red with jealousy after touring the new house. She'd never even seen such a fine place, let alone lived in one.

"What? You're moving in?" Lily's eyes widened. Was this old lady out of her mind? Who did she think she was?

"This big three-section courtyard is wasted on just the three of you. The rooms are empty anyway, so why not let us live here?" Mrs. Zhao said sourly.

Meixiang Evans stared wide-eyed at the courtyard, pointing at Lily and Lucky's room. "Mom, I like that room best! I want to live there!"

Mrs. Zhao beamed, "Alright, that one's yours. The room next door will be for your father and me. When your big brother comes back, he'll get the biggest room at the back, and there's even a study for him to read in."

Grandma Evans eyed Mrs. Wang's room. "I'll take this one for me and the old man! Lily, you and your mother and husband can move back to the old Evans house!"

Just like that, the Evans family started dividing up Lily's house, even planning to kick out the real owners. Everyone watching was dumbfounded.

Dogsheng's wife quietly tugged at Caiwei Wu's sleeve and whispered, "Aren't the Evans family shameless? They didn't help build the house, but now that it's nice, they're rushing to take it over."

Caiwei Wu looked at the Evans family with disdain. "It's not the first time they've acted like this."

The Evans family discussed eagerly, dreaming about how wonderful it would be to live in such a fine house.

Only Evans Fourth, Mrs. Chen, and Sanyun Evans and his son stood awkwardly, embarrassed by the stares of those around them, wishing they could disappear.

"Well, well, I didn't know you all were comedians," Lily said, arms crossed and smirking at the bunch of clowns. "This is my house. Since when do you get to decide to move in?"

"Your house? You're an Evans, so your things belong to the Evans family! Why can't we move into our own house? You greedy thing, trying to keep all the Evans property for yourself!" Grandma Evans shouted, stomping her feet.

"Tsk tsk, Grandma, your memory is really bad, huh? Didn't we already split off from the family and set up our own household? Now that you see our house is nice, you want to come crawling back? Not a chance!" Lily stood with hands on her hips, full of confidence.

"Lily, you and your mother are heartless, living in a new house while your relatives stay in thatched huts. You're so unfilial—the Evans family wasted their efforts raising you!" Grandma Evans slapped the label of 'unfilial' on her without hesitation.

"That's right! Lily and her mother are ungrateful, unfilial wolves!" Mrs. Zhao chimed in, gloating as she stared at Lily. She was sure that with the heavy accusation of 'unfilial,' Lily would have to give in!
