Clarence knew Charles Yin was dead serious this time.
All those fanciful thoughts she once had were now completely swept away!
If you lose your life, what’s the point of thinking about anything else?
Charles Yin toyed with Clarence’s ceramic pistol, speaking nonchalantly: "Me, an enemy of the Clarence Family? No, no, you’re mistaken! It was Miss Clarence who, while rescuing disaster victims, ran into a gang of robbers. In the chaos, fighting broke out over food and water, and the great Miss Clarence was tragically shot dead!"
As Charles finished speaking, he pressed the pistol to Clarence’s temple and casually flipped off the safety.
Clarence shuddered all over.
She didn’t want to die!
Before Charles could pull the trigger, Clarence screamed hysterically, "Earl Field, are you still not going to show up? Have you forgotten about our partnership?"
Charles didn’t lower his hand, but he didn’t pull the trigger either.
He’d gotten a minor injury in the earlier fight.
Seeing Earl Field enter, Clarence screamed desperately, "Earl Field, our families have always been close. I’m one of the heirs to the Clarence Family—are you really going to just let me die?"
Earl Field pinched his pale, slender chin in thought. "Seems someone just tried to kill me! Tsk, tsk. If I died, the Field Family would need a new heir."
"It was all a misunderstanding! The person I wanted to kill wasn’t you—it was Cecilia Gu!" Clarence tried to move toward Earl Field, but Charles Yin’s pistol forced her to sit back down.
"So it was just a misunderstanding!" Earl Field smiled at Charles Yin. "Oh dear, my vision’s getting blurry—I can’t see a thing. Charles, I’ll go rest. You handle things here."
With that, Earl Field turned and left without a trace of regret.
Seeing Earl Field wasn’t going to help, Clarence screamed even louder, "Earl Field, if you help me today, I’ll give you all our family’s business in Myanmar!"
Earl Field just turned back with a devilish smile, then kept walking away.
Without hesitation, Charles Yin lowered the gun and shot Clarence in the thigh.
Clarence let out a shrill scream, nearly passing out from the pain.
"Enough, Clarence. Time to come clean." Charles Yin’s face was cold. "Besides us, who else were you trying to get rid of this time?"
Clarence was in so much pain she could barely speak, her beautiful face twisted in agony.
How did he know she had other... motives?
"Those little tricks of yours might fool others, but you think you can fool me?" Charles Yin lifted Clarence’s chin with his gun. "As an honorary advisor to the Inagawa-kai, you’re secretly working with our rivals. Tsk, tsk, what a scheme! Today, I’m cleaning house for the chairman. Cooperate and things will go smoothly. If not, you’ll die—slowly."
Even as an honorary advisor, Clarence could mobilize forces outside the Inagawa-kai. Who would believe there wasn’t something shady going on?
If Charles hadn’t noticed some of the tattoos on those men weren’t Inagawa-kai symbols, he might have been fooled too!
Well, well.
He hadn’t expected Sankou Syndicate members to sneak in too!
Looks like someone in the Sankou Syndicate wants him dead in Osaka as well!
Cici slowly opened her eyes inside a makeshift tent.
The first thing she saw was a handsome British man staring at her up close—she nearly jumped out of her skin!
"Don’t move, you’re still getting an IV." Earl Field watched her with interest, pressing down on Cici’s arm and pointing to the back of her hand.
Following his gaze, Cici realized she was hooked up to an IV drip.
She remembered passing out and seeing Charles Yin.
How did she suddenly end up here getting an IV?
"Your body’s too weak." Earl Field seemed to guess what she was thinking and explained, "Maybe last night’s surgery drained you too much, and you didn’t rest today, so you passed out."
"Thank you…" Cici slowly sat up, unsure what else to say, so she blurted out the awkward thanks.
"Are you really Cici now?" Earl Field asked curiously, studying her.
Cici had no idea what he meant, but she nodded anyway.
"What about Yun Xi?" Earl Field pressed, even more curious.
"She’s me, and I’m her." Cici thought for a moment and explained, "It’s like how you always act carefree in public, but behind the scenes you’re ruthless and decisive. They’re both you—just different faces for different people."
Earl Field’s red eyes widened instantly!
She actually… saw right through him!
Cici lowered her eyes, her lashes fluttering softly. "If Miles Gu really is your son, then it all makes sense."
"Oh?" Earl Field was genuinely interested now.
He’d originally admired Cici’s perfect manners and personality; now he was shocked by her intelligence and composure.
Cici pointed to her own eyes and said to Earl Field, "Miles didn’t just inherit your eye color—he got your personality too. The Field Family’s genes are strong. Miles is only four, but he’s way more mature and calculating than most kids his age."
Ethan Yin is three, and while he’s smart, he’s still got that mischievous streak typical for his age.

Miles Gu is only four, yet he’s got a maturity way beyond his age.
Miles grew up sheltered by the Yin Family, so he never developed any darkness in his heart. He was raised as a proper young master—how could he be anything but pure?
So, his steadiness must be inherited, not shaped by his environment!
"Miles Gu is my son, and I won’t let go." Cici repeated her stance, firm as ever: "Legally, I’m his guardian. If you try to take him by force, Earl Field, I won’t be afraid of you!"
Earl Field suddenly laughed, genuine amusement flashing in his red eyes.
For the first time, he realized he was truly interested in this woman.
"No wonder Charles likes you so much." Earl Field narrowed his eyes, lips curling. "Even I’m starting to get interested in you!"
"I’m honored, though I honestly don’t care," Cici replied immediately.
Just then, the ground suddenly trembled beneath them!
Cici instinctively grabbed the bed, but the support snapped and she felt herself thrown outward!
As she flew through the air, one thought flashed through Cici’s mind: Damn, another aftershock!
"Careful!" Earl Field saw Cici about to fly out like a cannonball. He grabbed her wrist, yanked her back, pressed her head into his chest, and clung to the steel frame holding up the tent. Together, they curled up tightly to withstand the tremors!
Other tents were in total chaos too.
Charles Yin had Clarence cornered, about to get her to name her partner—then the aftershock hit!
Charles reacted instantly, chopping Clarence on the back of the neck. When she passed out, he dragged her under the table, dodged a flying box, rolled to a nearby shelf, and hugged it tight to ride out the quake.
This aftershock lasted a long time—a full ten minutes before it stopped!
As soon as it ended, Charles didn’t waste a second. He dashed outside.
Terrified for Cici, he rushed like mad toward her tent.
The moment Charles burst in, he saw Cici kneeling on the ground, her head buried in Earl Field’s arms.
Earl Field had a pile of stuff dumped all over him.
Earl Field looked up and saw Charles Yin coming, grinned through the pain, and said, "It’s fine, everything landed on me!"
Cici finally snapped out of it and broke free from Earl Field’s arms.
She looked up and saw Earl Field looking a mess, stunned for a second before saying, "Thanks for earlier!"
A complicated look flashed in Earl Field’s red eyes.
He didn’t even know why, in that split second when he saw Cici about to be thrown, he’d grabbed her and shielded her from the flying debris.
He wasn’t usually the charitable type, was he?
He was the kind who enjoyed watching others struggle, right?
He’d always liked kicking people when they were down, hadn’t he?
Yet he’d done it anyway, forgetting all his usual rules.
Was it because she’d touched a nerve? Or because… this woman was different, the guardian of Miles Gu?
But maybe it wasn’t any of those reasons…
Earl Field flexed his bruised arm and back, grinned, and looked up at Charles Yin. "What’s it feel like to be betrayed by someone you trust?"
Charles immediately squatted down and checked Cici over, making sure she was only hurt where the IV needle had been ripped out during the aftershock. Satisfied she was otherwise okay, he replied casually, "Looks like you know quite a lot, Earl."
