At this moment, she appeared fearless. However, having just been frightened by Quentin Hua, she dared not curse at Quentin Hua or Roxy Shangguan again. Still, her eyes were fierce as she snorted coldly and dragged Joyce Du away.
Autumn Du glanced at Quentin Hua and Roxy Shangguan before leaving as well. The remaining guards, seeing their masters depart, naturally dispersed too.
And so, the matter was left unresolved. Roxy Shangguan believed that one shouldn’t be too ruthless; if she scared people too much, they’d never dare trouble her again—which wouldn’t be any fun!
However, Joyce Du recovered quickly. Roxy Shangguan had thought she would rest and recuperate for a couple of days, but unexpectedly, she showed up again the very next day—this time, even gentler than before.
Joyce Du arrived early in the morning and refused to leave. Time passed, and even as lunch approached, she kept smiling and sharing stories she found amusing with Roxy Shangguan, seemingly forgetting all about the time.
Roxy Shangguan nestled in Quentin Hua’s arms, yawning nonstop. She had no interest in all those pretty accessories, rouge, and powder that Joyce Du kept talking about. Really, what was this woman thinking? She was only two years old—why talk to her about such things? Did she lack treasures? As for those cosmetics, did someone as naturally beautiful as her even need them?
One had to admit, Roxy Shangguan was quite conceited!
Seeing Roxy Shangguan’s drowsy look, Joyce Du’s eyes flickered and she said softly, “If you’re tired, Roxy, go take a nap.” Because her face was still injured, Joyce Du wore a veil, yet her eyes were full of doting affection. Anyone who didn’t know better might think Roxy Shangguan was her own daughter!
Roxy Shangguan curled her lip. Did Joyce Du think she didn’t know what she was up to? She just wanted to be alone with Quentin Hua. But she was sorely mistaken—if Roxy went to sleep, would Quentin Hua really stay here? If Quentin Hua didn’t feel like keeping her company, he wouldn’t sit here for Joyce Du to admire! Couldn’t Joyce Du see Quentin Hua’s look of disdain?
Quentin Hua hadn’t paid any attention to Joyce Du or spoken a word; it had all been Joyce Du talking to herself. Finally, Quentin Hua spoke up, “Are you hungry?”
Roxy Shangguan nodded. It was time to eat!
Seeing that Joyce Du had no intention of leaving, Roxy Shangguan didn’t ask her to go either. She was curious to see just how patient this woman could be.
“Roxy, eat more fish!” Joyce Du said with a smile, placing a piece of fish in Roxy Shangguan’s small bowl.
Roxy Shangguan ignored her. Quentin Hua reached over and moved her bowl away, then placed his own bowl in front of her, filled with boneless fish. Roxy Shangguan grinned, kissed him on the cheek, and began to eat heartily.
Watching her cheeks puff up as she ate, looking like a chipmunk, Quentin Hua couldn’t help but smile.
Joyce Du gazed at Quentin Hua, mesmerized by the enchanting smile on his face. It was as if she’d been frozen by a spell, unable to move. His lazy charm captivated her, making her heart race uncontrollably.
Sensing something, Roxy Shangguan glanced up at Joyce Du, eyes slightly cold. She’d only been keeping her company out of boredom, but now she regretted it!
Noticing her displeasure, Quentin Hua frowned at Joyce Du and spat out a single word, “Leave!” He’d tolerated this woman long enough. Though he was used to her infatuated gaze, it didn’t mean he liked it. If not for Roxy Shangguan, he would’ve chased her off ages ago!
“Cousin…” Joyce Du snapped back to reality, confused by Quentin Hua’s angry expression. Why was he suddenly upset?
Quentin Hua looked thoroughly impatient, his voice icy. “Don’t make me say it a second time!”
“Eh? What’s going on here?” Sylas Ren, who’d come to mooch a meal, looked at one person and then another before sitting down unceremoniously. He grumbled, “Why didn’t anyone call me for lunch?”
Quentin Hua snorted, “Would Miss Hua ever let you go hungry?”
Sylas Ren had already started eating without restraint, muttering, “Don’t talk to me about that lovesick girl! If Wendy Hua didn’t cling to me all day, would I ever miss a meal?”
Roxy Shangguan smiled and said, “You wouldn’t really lose your appetite just by watching her eat, would you?”
Sylas Ren swallowed his food and exaggerated, “Roxy, you’re so clever! That woman really is hard to stomach!”
Sylas Ren’s arrival broke the awkward atmosphere. Joyce Du probably thought Quentin Hua would show her some courtesy and not chase her off in front of Sylas Ren, so she had no intention of leaving.
Hearing Sylas Ren’s words, Joyce Du frowned slightly and said, “Hero Ren, isn’t that a bit much to say about Wendy Hua?”
She knew Quentin Hua didn’t much like people from the Hua Family, but Wendy Hua was his younger sister. That blood relation couldn’t be erased, and surely he wouldn’t like others speaking ill of her.
She stole a glance at Quentin Hua and, seeing he didn’t react, secretly breathed a sigh of relief. It seemed Quentin Hua still cared about her reputation and hadn’t chased her off in front of everyone. Maybe he did have feelings for her after all.
She had no idea that Quentin Hua had simply handed the task over to Sylas Ren. That was exactly what Roxy Shangguan wanted—eating while watching the drama unfold. Life was just wonderful!
Sylas Ren grabbed a drumstick and snorted, “Miss Du, I was only talking about Miss Hua. Sure, you’re just as shameless, but don’t think I was referring to you!” With that, he bit into the drumstick, savoring it and ignoring Joyce Du’s dramatic expression.
Roxy Shangguan gave Sylas Ren a thumbs up. Not bad! Even though bullying women isn’t very gentlemanly, it was just what she wanted.
Joyce Du’s face flushed red, then pale, then green. She glared at Sylas Ren, as if she wanted to bite him. What did it matter to him if she chased after a man? She wasn’t even interested in him!
But after a moment, Joyce Du looked away, refusing to lose her temper. She sat there, aggrieved, hoping to leave a good impression on Quentin Hua and give him a chance to play the hero. But her plan was doomed to fail.
