Communicating with the First Spirit Tree

"...Beanie, my best friend is in danger. If you don't help, she'll die!" Grace pleaded. "I'm begging you! Just like last time, absorb the divine power from this Spirit Tree too!"

Beanie still shook its head.

"I know you're a First Spirit Tree too, and you don't want to hurt your own kind..." Grace said. "But... this is life or death! Please, I'm begging you!"

Beanie simply pretended to be a tree, standing perfectly still.

"Hey!" Grace was about to explode with frustration.

"If you keep pretending to be a tree, I'll chop you down!"

Beanie still didn't move a muscle.

"Grace, what are you doing?" Empress Wendy asked. "Didn't you say time was running out? Why are you just standing there?"

Grace, flustered and anxious, stepped outside and said with a flicker in her eyes, "Your Majesty, could you give me a moment?"

"What were you just doing?"

"I... I'm communicating with the First Spirit Tree," Grace said.

"Communicating with a tree?"

"Exactly!" Grace replied, putting her hand on the trunk, closing her eyes, and looking very sincere. "Just give me one more moment."

Empress Wendy frowned.

Grace kept touching the Spirit Tree, staying in a daze.

Suddenly, she snapped her eyes open, her face lighting up with joy.

"What is going on with you?" Empress Wendy asked.

"Done!" Grace said. "I just communicated with the Spirit Tree. No need to destroy it—the Spell Array can be broken without harm. It's done!"

Just now, Shannon suddenly contacted her and said she was safe.

"Really?" Empress Wendy asked.

"If Your Majesty doesn't believe me, let's go out and wait for news!" Grace said.

Empress Wendy, still skeptical, took her outside.

It wasn't long before someone reported that the Spell Array had vanished, and Goldie had been rescued.

But the kidnappers had already escaped.

Prince Goldie was already six years old.

The imperial couple had hoped to get clues about the kidnappers from him.

But he said that while he was walking in the garden, everything suddenly went black and he remembered nothing.

When he woke up, he had already been rescued.

There wasn't a single clue left.

Grace listened quietly on the side, secretly relieved.

It shouldn't be traced back to Byron and Shannon... She could finally leave.

"Your Majesty, Your Highness, since the young prince is safe, I shall take my leave," Grace stepped forward to bid farewell.

The emperor smiled warmly, "How could you just leave? You broke the Spell Array and rescued Goldie. That's a huge achievement! Tell me, what reward do you want?"

A reward...

Grace grinned, "Thank you, Your Majesty! If you'd grant me some Celestial Spirit Jade, I'd be forever grateful!"

"Celestial Spirit Jade... Haha, very well! Someone, open the treasury and give Chloe Zhu two taels of Celestial Spirit Jade," the emperor said.

Two taels?

Seriously?

The mighty Eastern Luo Empire, and they're this stingy?

Sure, two taels of Celestial Spirit Jade is a decent fortune, but it's not even enough to fill Beanie's teeth!

But then again, she really hadn't done all that much.

Two taels it is...

Grace made a formal curtsy, just about to thank them, when suddenly the empress called out, "Wait!"

"What's wrong, Your Majesty?" the emperor asked.

"Chloe Zhu, how did you break the array? Can you tell us?"

Grace wanted to say: No, I can't.

But she was afraid she'd lose her head.

So she answered, "To ordinary people, Spirit Trees are just trees. But in reality, they possess divine power and spiritual awareness. I sincerely communicated with them and asked the tree at the array's core to transfer its power to the other trees, making the array core ineffective."
