"What do you mean?" Raymond Lei burst out laughing as if he'd heard something ridiculous. "Today is the day your daughter marries me, Madam Autumn. Surely you haven't forgotten?"
Autumn Du's expression soured. Who could possibly feel cheerful being called 'mother-in-law' by an old man even older than herself?
"Miss Wendy, you'd better get into the bridal sedan quickly! Don't delay the auspicious hour!" Raymond Lei's face darkened as he reached for Wendy Hua behind Autumn Du, clearly running out of patience.
Autumn Du shielded Wendy Hua and stepped back, managing to dodge Raymond Lei's grasp in her panic. She shouted angrily, "How dare you try to snatch someone from the Hua Mansion! Such nerve! My son is the master of the Lotus Sect—if you dare act recklessly, he won't let you off!" Only now did she remember Quentin Hua was her son.
Raymond Lei was startled. He only knew Quentin Hua had some connection to the Hua Family, but hadn’t realized Quentin was actually the young master of the Hua Mansion.
Looking up, he saw Quentin Hua approaching. Raymond Lei was filled with suspicion, but seeing Quentin's indifferent expression—and the little girl in his arms wearing the jade bracelets he’d gifted—his doubts faded. Whatever Quentin's true identity, it seemed he wouldn’t interfere with the Hua Family’s fate.
Charles Hua hurried to Wendy Hua's side, terrified that Raymond Lei would steal away his precious daughter.
Seeing Quentin Hua approach, Raymond Lei forced a flattering smile and cupped his fists in greeting. "Lotus Sect Master..." He watched Quentin closely, and when he saw Quentin truly had no intention of intervening, he finally breathed a sigh of relief.
Autumn Du, seeing Quentin Hua arrive, quickly called out, "Quentin, save your sister!"
But just then, Wendy Hua's temper flared. Moments ago, she’d hoped Quentin Hua would save her, but now, seeing him, her heart filled with resentment. She shouted angrily, "He’s not my brother! I don’t want his help!"
Maybe because Charles Hua was also present, Wendy Hua felt sure he wouldn’t let Raymond Lei take her away. She was afraid, but not truly worried that Raymond Lei would succeed.
In her heart, there was nothing Charles Hua couldn’t do. With enough money, he could make ghosts work for him. Until now, nothing had ever stumped him—except this time, Wendy Hua didn’t understand how things had changed.
A huge crowd had gathered outside the Hua Mansion to watch the drama unfold, but no one dared to speak up. The Hua Family was untouchable, and so was Raymond Lei. Still, many secretly felt a bit of schadenfreude—it seemed the Hua Family had finally met their match.
In Sunflower Town, no one dared provoke the Hua Family. Autumn Du and Wendy Hua always acted superior, snatching jewelry even if someone else had already paid for it. Charles Hua treated business partners with the same arrogance. People resented it but didn’t dare retaliate. Now, finally, someone was putting the Hua Family in their place, and the crowd was happy to watch.
When they heard Quentin Hua was the master of the Lotus Sect and Charles Hua’s son, the crowd felt disappointed. It seemed Raymond Lei wouldn’t be able to deal with the Hua Family after all. No wonder the Hua Family was so arrogant—they had the Lotus Sect backing them. The crowd didn’t know exactly how powerful the Lotus Sect was, but they knew it was far beyond their reach, and even Iron Sand Hall couldn’t compare.
But when they heard Wendy Hua’s outburst, the crowd was amused again. This young lady really didn’t know what was good for her. At this moment, only her brother could save her, yet she still refused his help—what was she thinking?
Quentin Hua and Roxy Shangguan were just here to watch the spectacle. Wendy Hua glared at Quentin as if he owed her a fortune. Roxy Shangguan spoke up, "Quentin, since Miss Wendy said so, and you 'care' for her so much, you surely won’t go against her wishes, right?"
Quentin Hua smiled and nodded, agreeing with Roxy Shangguan.
Charles Hua and Autumn Du both glared at Roxy Shangguan. They didn’t blame Wendy Hua—they just directed all their anger at Roxy instead.
Autumn Du had been afraid Quentin Hua wouldn’t help. Now, hearing Roxy Shangguan’s words and seeing Quentin actually planning to stand aside, she cursed angrily, "You little wretch, what nonsense are you spouting?"
Roxy Shangguan shrank her neck and pouted, tears brimming in her eyes. She tugged pitifully at Quentin Hua’s sleeve and said, "Quentin, did I say something wrong?"
The onlookers outside saw such an adorable child nearly brought to tears by Autumn Du’s scolding, and couldn’t help feeling indignant. What a shrewish woman—how could she be so harsh to a child?
Autumn Du didn’t notice the crowd’s disapproving stares—she was already frightened by Quentin Hua’s terrifying gaze and had no energy left to care about anything else.
Quentin Hua was truly angry now. The Hua Family had insulted Roxy Shangguan again and again, and he’d finally had enough. He was about to tell Raymond Lei to take Wendy Hua away when a sudden scream erupted from the crowd.
A figure darted into the mansion, leaped onto Sylas Ren, and shook him vigorously, crying, "My precious son, your mother searched so bitterly to find you!"
Sylas Ren reached out to embrace the woman, his mouth twitching as he felt the odd silence and curious stares around him. He was helpless—having a mother like this, what could he do?
Though that’s what he thought, the corners of his mouth couldn’t help but curve upward, and his voice softened. A trace of helplessness flashed in his eyes. "Mother, did you run away from home again?"
The woman in his arms lifted her head. Her fair face showed no trace of age, and she radiated a mature charm—yet her expression was so lively and animated.
Her bright, expressive eyes glared at Sylas Ren as she puffed up her cheeks and declared, "I traveled a thousand miles to find my son, not to run away from home!"
Sylas Ren’s mouth twitched again—he figured his father would have to travel a thousand miles to chase his wife next!
"Precious son, next time you run away from home, take your mother with you, okay?" Her eyes sparkled, and her face showed a mix of pleading and mischief.
