He Won't Let Anyone Take Advantage
Hand her over to him?
Yeah, didn't he write to him before, saying he wanted to give his daughter to him as a concubine...
Edward Lawrence was so shocked he couldn't catch his breath and said nothing for a long while.
"Also, about Colin Gu, I have a suggestion for you, Father-in-law. Would you like to hear it?"
Still calling himself 'son-in-law'!
Edward Lawrence took a deep breath and asked, "What suggestion?"
"Colin Gu may be ruthless, but you have to admit, he's the only one among the Gu brothers who's truly fit to be emperor."
Edward Lawrence said nothing either way.
"If you overthrow Colin Gu, who do you plan to put on the throne? Duke Ethan Gu?" Evan Xiao shook his head. "He's indecisive and can't judge people well. He'll never be a great ruler! If the Zhu Clan ends up with a master like that, you'll all go down with the Blue Moon Kingdom!"
"So, what do you suggest?"
For the sake of the Zhu Clan, why not think further ahead? Hold off for now, and take your time to find a stronger ally in the future.
Of course, that 'stronger ally' means himself.
Edward Lawrence listened, deep in thought. Suddenly, his eyes lit up and he exclaimed, "General, you've woken me up from a dream! The fog that's clouded my mind for days has finally lifted!"
Evan Xiao nodded, "Prime Minister, I'd like to visit Grace now. Is that alright?"
Edward Lawrence looked at him, a bit reluctant, and said, "She's in Serenity Pavilion. She really is hurt. Go ahead and see her."
The two of them are genuinely in love; he never planned to break them up anyway.
Now that it's a done deal, what else can he do?
Louis Lin came along with Evan Xiao.
Standing outside the Rosewood Pavilion, he kept glancing up at the sky.
When Evan Xiao came out, Louis Lin trotted over happily and asked, "General, what did you and the Prime Minister talk about? The weather's much brighter now—look, the sun's out!"
"Curious what we talked about?" Evan Xiao asked.
"No, no!" Louis Lin hurriedly replied. "I was just worried about you..."
He'd never admit he was just dying to gossip.
"Not telling you," Evan Xiao said, heading toward Serenity Pavilion with a smirk.
He wouldn't let anyone seize the opportunity.
......
Grace had been sulking all morning, skipped lunch, and lay motionless on her bed.
The door opened, but she didn't even turn her head. "I said I don't want to eat! Stop bringing food!"
"Why are you so mad?" Evan Xiao asked.
Grace whipped her head around and was shocked to see Evan Xiao standing in her room.
She stared at him like she'd seen a ghost. "How did you get here?"
"On horseback."
Grace gritted her teeth. "I mean, why'd you come here? We're not even close!"
"Not close?" Evan Xiao sat down on her bed. "We're not close?"
Grace sneered, "General Xiao, I have no idea what you've been up to, or who you've been with. Are we really that close? You're probably closer to Sophie Shang!"
Evan Xiao paused, then said, "Got it. You're jealous."
"Wow, your comprehension skills are off the charts! Which eye saw me eating that disgusting stuff?"
"I was unconscious at the time. She took me to get treated. We're just superior and subordinate—nothing else."
Unconscious...
Was it that bad?
Grace shot him a sideways glance.
Evan Xiao reached out, grabbed her hand, and placed her fingers on his pulse.
From his pulse, she could tell his internal injuries were serious.
"I knew you'd miss me. As soon as I woke up and could walk, I came right back to see you. Don't be mad, okay?" Evan Xiao said to her.
For some reason, Grace's eyes grew red.
