Neither Dao Nor Man

"I know Dominic Du. I've heard he's pretty arrogant and wants to dominate the entire Five Elements Universe," Di Jiu said.

Cassie Cao shook her head. "Dominic Du is arrogant, yes, but the claim that he wants to possess the entire Five Elements Universe isn't quite accurate. Dominic Du wants to rule the Five Elements Universe and become its master, but not to claim it as his personal property. The truly ambitious one is his disciple, Morgan Du. Morgan Du genuinely wants to refine and claim the Five Elements Universe for himself. But his ambition far exceeds his ability, so failure is inevitable."

"What kind of person is Morgan Du, really?" Di Jiu was very curious about Morgan Du, as many things seemed to be connected to him.

Cassie Cao replied, "Actually, I've never met Morgan Du. By the time Morgan Du began his reign, I was already gone. Or rather, before Morgan Du became Dominic Du's disciple, I had already perished. The reason I know about Morgan Du is because I heard stories about him when I was searching for news of Dominic Du after my rebirth through the Prime Law."

"You died yourself?" Di Jiu subconsciously repeated, then quickly understood—Cassie Cao must have a reborn body. If Cassie Cao's reborn body is already this terrifying, how terrifying would Dominic Du be if he were reborn? Besides, Dominic Du surely wouldn't die so easily.

Di Jiu looked at Cassie Cao with some suspicion. This woman was so beautiful, and both were outstanding figures of the same era. Could it be that she had a romantic relationship with Dominic Du?

Cassie Cao clearly didn't know what Di Jiu was thinking and continued, "Back then, I only obtained one Prime Law, while Dominic Du obtained eight Prime Laws. Dominic Du very much wanted me to give him my Prime Law as well, so he could achieve a complete understanding of the universe."

"You must have given it to him, right?" Di Jiu knew that Dominic Du eventually had nine Prime Laws, which he had learned from the Ninth Law.

Cassie Cao shook her head. "The Prime Law I obtained, of course I wouldn't give it to him. I was prepared that if Dominic Du tried to seize it, I would rather be destroyed along with the Prime Law than hand it over. Unexpectedly, Dominic Du not only wanted the Prime Law but also wanted me to become his Dao companion. He said that in the universe, only I was worthy of him, and gave me one day to consider."

I, Cassie Cao, never intended to become anyone's Dao companion, but I also knew I was no match for Dominic Du. In the Five Elements Universe, if Dominic Du wished, no matter where I fled, I could never escape his grasp. After thinking for only three breaths, I chose to sever my Prime Law and perish.

Di Jiu suddenly thought of the Ninth Prime Law. When the Ninth Prime Law escaped before, he really thought it had escaped the grasp of the universe's master. Now it seems that's not the case. It's not that Dominic Du couldn't find the Ninth Prime Law, but that Dominic Du himself was betrayed by his disciple. Otherwise, no matter how far the Ninth Prime Law fled, it wouldn't have escaped Dominic Du's grasp.

Cassie Cao continued, "When I perished, it was decisive—I had no intention of being reborn. Life, to me, was enough just to have lived. Besides, I was born in the Five Elements Universe, so when I perished, everything scattered back to the Five Elements Universe. From where I came, to where I returned."

Di Jiu looked at Cassie Cao in confusion, thinking, since you were so decisive, is the person standing before me not really you?

Cassie Cao noticed Di Jiu's confusion and smiled self-deprecatingly. "Although I decisively perished, without any will to survive, I did obtain a Prime Law. My Dao was also derived from the Prime Law and Genesis Resonance. When I severed my Prime Law, I didn't do it completely. I only severed the form of the Prime Law, not its spirit."

Di Jiu immediately understood what Cassie Cao meant and asked in shock, "Did you use the Prime Law to be reborn?"

Cassie Cao nodded, "Yes, I was indeed reborn with the help of the Prime Law. So later, even though Dominic Du collected all nine Prime Laws, he actually only collected eight and a half. I believe Dominic Du eventually realized this. Once he did, he could strip away the half Prime Law that helped me rebirth, preventing me from ever being reborn again."

In reality, Dominic Du never did this. I think there are only two possibilities: First, Dominic Du never had the chance because he was ambushed by his disciple Morgan Du and many other powerful cultivators. Second, perhaps Dominic Du considered that we were both Genesis Resonance cultivators, born from the gathering of Genesis Essence, so he spared me once."

Di Jiu was silent. He had also heard another rumor: when Morgan Du's chaotic inner world, fused with Prime Law, was opened, eight Prime Laws appeared, and eight powerful cultivators seized them. Since Cassie Cao said this, it meant that one of the Prime Laws seized back then was incomplete, only half a law.

"So do you still need to find your remaining half of the Prime Law?" Di Jiu asked.

Cassie Cao nodded, "After I was reborn, the first thing I did was to inquire about Dominic Du. As long as Dominic Du was still alive, I would rather find a secluded place and perish completely. Because once Dominic Du knew I was still alive, he would never give me a second chance to perish, and I wouldn't even have a place to escape to."

Cassie Cao was silent for a moment before suddenly saying, "While avoiding Dominic Du, I once met a truly wise powerhouse. I suspect he, like us, is a cultivator who absorbed Genesis Resonance and condensed the universe's essence. But he never revealed his origins. I think, if anyone can deal with Dominic Du in the future, it might be him."

"Who is it?" Di Jiu blurted out.

Cassie Cao didn't answer directly, instead saying, "When I met him, I was awed by his boundless wisdom. After answering many of my questions, he sighed with emotion—a sentiment I still remember today."

"What sentiment?" Di Jiu, feeling the threat of Dominic Du, grew impatient and less patient.

Cassie Cao didn't mind Di Jiu's impatience and continued, "The Dao is not the Dao, people are not people, pity our kind, so much suffering. Only after being reborn did I truly understand the meaning of these words."
