Chapter 762: Calamity of Clan Extinction

"Second Elder, things have gotten serious. The Third Elder has betrayed the clan—he attacked the Fourth and Fifth Elder while you were away. Right now, the whole clan is likely under his control. With us showing up, the Third Elder must have already gotten word. We should lay low for now..."

Upon hearing this, the Second Elder's face turned ashen, his eyes nearly blazing with fury, and an unmistakable sorrow crept onto his features.

Leon’s brows furrowed slightly. He glanced around, then took out several Soul Mana Crystals, quickly etching a few simple runes onto them before tossing them aside.

The Soul Mana Crystals slowly merged into the ground and into several nearby War Ancient Oaks.

No wonder the strongest defenses of the Dark Elf clan—the War Ancient Oaks—haven’t responded at all. So the Third Elder has rebelled...

Those War Ancient Oaks must have been commanded to sleep...

Just as Leon finished, the distant sound of a large group approaching echoed. The Third Elder, surrounded by a crowd of Dark Elves, strode toward them—his arrogant, manic laughter arriving before he did.

"Hahaha... Second Elder, bet you didn’t expect this! The entire Dark Elf clan is now under my control. You old fossil, always playing the nice guy, hogging the Second Elder’s seat and the clan’s power. Take a look—see how many still stand with you now?"

The Third Elder walked up, his face openly smug.

The steward stammered in terror, "I think he went to the Life Sigil Crystal with the Second Elder and the others…"

The Third Elder’s face went blank—he understood now. Jairus must be dead…

Turning back, the Third Elder’s face twisted with venomous malice, his voice trembling with fury as he pointed at those who’d emerged from the Life Sigil Crystal’s world.

"You’re all dead! None of you will leave here alive! You murdered my son—I’ll see you all buried with Jairus!"

His voice, now distorted by rage, terrified the crowd. The immense aura of a Ninth-Rank Title Archmage pressed down on everyone like a mountain, leaving them unable to straighten their backs.

A few stewards exchanged glances, then slipped out of the Second Elder’s group and quickly darted away to the side.

"Third Elder, Jairus’s death has nothing to do with us!"

"It was him—the outsider! He killed Jairus!"

"We tried to stop him, but there was nothing we could do!"

The group approached, faces twisted with fear, shouting at the Third Elder while keeping a wary eye on Leon, as if afraid he might silence them.

Leon glanced at the group, utterly unsurprised by their betrayal. Back in the Life Sigil Crystal’s world, these same people had hidden at the rear, casting only a few token spells before refusing to fight any further.

The Third Elder’s face darkened, his eyes brimming with murderous intent as he glared at Leon, then turned his venomous gaze to the traitorous Dark Elves.

"Speak! How did Jairus die?"

The cowardly Dark Elves paled, trembling as they answered.

"Third Elder, Jairus was killed by the outsider—it was horrible…"

"Yes, yes! It was the outsider. He used an earth spell and drowned Jairus alive in sand. It had nothing to do with us…"

"It really wasn’t our fault. The outsider tried to shatter the Life Sigil Crystal, and Jairus tried to stop him—we all did, but none of us could stop him. That’s when Jairus was killed…"

"If we’d been stronger, maybe that despicable outsider would’ve killed us too…"

The Dark Elves kept insisting they were innocent, blaming Leon for everything and claiming they’d stood with Jairus.

The Third Elder looked up, grief-stricken, clenching his fists so hard his teeth ground together. After several seconds, he turned to Leon, his eyes bloodshot and his whole being radiating a vicious aura.

"Outsider, I should have killed you sooner—should have listened to Jairus and struck you down without hesitation. Now Jairus is dead because of you, and you deserve to die. You should die!"

The Third Elder’s body shook, consumed by both sorrow and rage. In his moment of triumph, he’d received the news of his son’s brutal death.

"Surround them! Don’t let a single one escape! Especially that damned outsider—he must die!"

From the trees all around, crowds of Dark Elves gathered, their numbers swelling as they encircled Leon, the Second Elder, and their allies, sealing off every escape route.

The Second Elder’s face was tinged with grief. Seeing those familiar faces, he understood that the Third Elder had mobilized all his forces—proof that things had reached their worst, and the Third Elder had truly rebelled.

The Second Elder stepped forward, his expression full of pain as he looked at the Third Elder.

"Brewster, do you even know what you’re doing? Do you understand the consequences of your actions?"

Brewster was the Third Elder’s real name. Ever since they became elders, their names had been set aside, replaced by their titles—a reminder to forget themselves and remember only their roles.

The Second Elder hadn’t called the Third Elder by his name in a long time. Hearing it now, even he found it unfamiliar. Brewster just sneered in response.

"Second Elder, it’s no use saying anything now. The Dark Elf Clan is under my complete control. From today, you’re no longer the Second Elder—you’re my prisoner. Don’t worry, for the sake of our years together, I won’t kill you, but you’ll be locked away until you die! But that outsider—he must die! You’d best surrender!"

The Second Elder, heartbroken, stamped his foot in anger. "Brewster, do you even know what’s really happening? Leon only killed Jairus by accident while trying to restore the Life Sigil Crystal—it wasn’t his fault at all. He’s the greatest benefactor of our Dark Elf Clan, and you want to kill him? Leon went through countless hardships to recover the artifact incarnation of the Life Sigil Crystal and now, with the crystal fully restored, he’s saved our entire race from extinction. How can you let personal grudges blind you to this?"

The Third Elder paused, then broke into triumphant laughter.

"Good! Good! I always thought your inaction was the reason the clan was dying. Once I take control, I’ll find the artifact incarnation of the Life Sigil Crystal myself. But I didn’t expect that damned outsider to have already recovered it. Perfect! It’s fate—the moment I seize power, everything is restored!"

The Third Elder laughed gleefully. Upon hearing that the Life Sigil Crystal had been restored, the other Dark Elves—who hadn’t known—cheered in relief. The main reason they’d sided with the Third Elder was that the clan had only a few decades left before extinction. His greatest promise was to spend those years doing everything possible to restore the crystal.

Now, with the crystal restored, everyone couldn’t help but burst into tears and cheers.

After more than a century of despair, the Dark Elves had reached their final hour. In such times, even a false hope from the Third Elder was enough to make his followers rebel en masse.

And now, just as the Third Elder had rebelled, the Life Sigil Crystal was restored. Many Dark Elves felt it was truly destiny for the Third Elder to rule.

At this point, many of the Third Elder’s die-hard supporters believed Leon had to die. No matter how great his deeds for the Dark Elves, his favor was too immense—only his death would make everyone feel at ease.

The Second Elder looked at the increasingly savage faces surrounding the Third Elder, his own face full of anguish. How had the once-proud Dark Elves become like this? The Third Elder’s murderous intent toward Leon was now completely unmasked—he hated Leon most of all.

"Brewster, so what if you control the clan now? Have you forgotten the Grand Elder and the Queen?"

The Third Elder let out a wild laugh, utterly unconcerned.
