Too Ashamed to Show Her Face

Xiao Zetian's eyes were sharp, and he immediately noticed that there were many people gathered in front of his door. Not wanting others to see Su Li in her current state, he wanted to turn his horse around, but it was too late.

All the villagers heard Tang's words and saw them, so everyone ran towards them and surrounded them in the middle.

Xiao Zetian frowned and wrapped Su Li tightly in his cloak, holding her close.

The village chief looked concerned: "Yuanbao, how is Ali? Is she hurt?"

Xiao Zetian told the village chief, "It's nothing. We arrived in time and saved her. She wasn't seriously injured."

The village chief said, "That's good, that's good. Ali is always doing good deeds; may the Bodhisattva bless her. Good people have heaven's protection!"

The villagers were all simple-minded and happy to hear Su Li was safe. Only Tang wore a malicious smile as she circled the horse and said, "Yuanbao, since everyone cares so much about Ali, you should let them see her. Only by seeing Ali safe with their own eyes can everyone be at ease."

Xiao Zetian looked down at Tang and said coldly, "I said she's fine, so she is. Move aside quickly, Ali is a bit scared; I want to take her home immediately."

But Tang deliberately stood in front of the horse, puffing out her chest and said, "We just want to see Ali once; why won't you let us? Are you hiding something?!"

As Tang spoke, she acted like she was peeking into Xiao Zetian's arms and said, "Ali, are you okay? Show your face and say something to everyone! Auntie is really worried and cares about you. I have to see you with my own eyes so my heart can be at ease; otherwise, I can't sleep well at night."

Xiao Zetian snorted coldly, tightened the reins, and made the horse start running forward.

Tang didn't expect Xiao Zetian to ignore her standing in front of the horse and almost trample her, so she quickly dodged to the side, fell flat on her face, and shouted, "Yuanbao, why are you so ungrateful? I'm just caring about Ali, and you almost let the horse step on me!"

Tang cursed as she got up from the ground.

The village chief looked at Tang unhappily and said, "Why are you talking nonsense? Ali was frightened, so it's proper to take her home to rest quickly. You insist on blocking the way; isn't that asking for trouble?"

Tang stiffened her neck and said, "How am I asking for trouble? I'm just caring about Ali! Last night, everyone saw with their own eyes that Ali was kidnapped by several men! Ali is such a beautiful young lady; spending a night in the hands of those men, I'm just worried they might have... Ah! Why can't I keep my mouth shut!"

Tang quickly covered her mouth, deliberately acting as if she had said too much.

The village chief angrily scolded, "Tang, what nonsense are you talking! Yuanbao already said Ali is fine; how can you spread rumors and ruin Ali's reputation!"

Tang shouted, "How am I spreading rumors! You all just saw, Yuanbao wrapped Ali up so tightly that not even her face was visible. Maybe it's because Su Li was so badly treated by those men that she can't show herself!"

The village chief was so angry that his whole body trembled, pointing at Tang with shaking hands: "Tang, why can't you say something nice for once!"

Tang stiffened her neck and said, "What did I say wrong? I just saw with my son in the field that Su Li's hair was disheveled, her clothes torn. I'm an experienced person; I could tell at a glance that Su Li must have been mistreated! You don't believe me? Then why didn't Yuanbao let everyone see Su Li just now? Isn't that because he's guilty!"
