A war on the sea was about to break out.
Since this part of the sea was international waters and not under any country’s jurisdiction, both sides fought without any restraint.
Neither side would back down, exchanging blow for blow.
Max Mo’s team was made up of professionals, but the pirates were seasoned fighters too—this was their home turf, and they were just as fierce.
The fight between the two groups quickly reached a stalemate.
As for the unlucky ones, Rona Muir and Miles Gu, they finally managed to find a place to shelter from the rain, covered in mud and water.
There was a small cave here, only two or three meters deep.
Honestly, calling it a cave was generous—it was more like a pit.
Still, at least it kept the rain off them. They wouldn’t have to get soaked anymore.
Rona Muir picked up some branches and lit a campfire with solid alcohol.
In an instant, thick smoke billowed up, shooting straight into the sky.
On the other side of the island’s coastline, Jiro Hirayama finally spotted the smoke. His spirits lifted, and he dragged his tired body toward the source.
“Godmother, do you think someone will find us?” Miles Gu guarded the hard-won campfire, his face covered in soot as he looked at Rona Muir.
Rona Muir held back her laughter for a long moment before answering, “Of course someone will. With smoke this thick, if nobody sees it, that would be ridiculous!”
The smoke had practically turned the kid into a little chimney!
Rona Muir couldn’t hold back anymore and used a damp piece of clothing to wipe Miles Gu’s dirty face clean.
Her handsome son always looked better cleaned up.
“I wonder where Godfather went.” Miles Gu rested his chin in his hands, watching Rona Muir dry their clothes one by one. He said softly, “When we jumped off the boat, I saw Godfather wasn’t far from us.”
“I haven’t agreed to marry him yet, so why do you and Ethan keep calling him Godfather?” Rona Muir finally protested against the title.
“Because Mom said, ‘If Godmother finally has a man who wants her, don’t be picky, or you’ll really end up missing out!’ Godmother, why would your child miss out?” Miles Gu looked at Rona Muir in confusion. He’d grown up and never missed out on anything…
"Cough, cough..." Rona Muir nearly choked on her own spit.
Cecilia Gu, how could you teach your son that?!
Rona Muir stubbornly stuck to her guns, refusing to back down: "Nonsense! Your godmother is amazing—why wouldn’t men want me? Please, it’s not about them picking me. It’s me picking them! Miles, let me tell you, when you choose a wife one day, you’d better keep your eyes wide open. Pick someone like your godmother: beautiful, talented, charming, and strong—a real queen!"
Miles Gu looked quietly at Rona Muir. "But what about my little sister?"
"Uh? What little sister?" Rona Muir looked at Miles Gu in confusion.
Miles Gu’s red eyes were full of innocence. "Ethan Yin said that Mom and Dad will have a little sister someday, and they won’t trust anyone to marry her off, so I’ll have to marry my sister."
"Pfft..." Rona Muir couldn’t help but spit out her water!
Kids really do say the darndest things, but Miles Gu’s words still left her completely stunned!
Seriously, how do these kids know Cecilia Gu and Charles Yin will have a daughter? What if it’s another boy?
Well, you really can’t take these things too seriously with kids.
Rona Muir quickly changed the subject. "Miles, after we get back, you’ll probably be living in England for a long time. But don’t worry, Cecilia is the Chairwoman of Saint Diana Academy. We’ll always be waiting for you at the academy."
Miles Gu declared firmly, "I’ll definitely come back to study!"
"Great ambition! Go for it!" Rona Muir slapped Miles Gu on the shoulder. "Ethan Yin will be waiting for you at Saint Diana Academy!"
"Godmother, how much longer is this rain going to last?" Miles Gu looked at the pouring rain outside and sighed. "Even typhoons in N City don’t rain this long."
Rona Muir scratched her now dry hair and said, "Who knows! But they say the rain should stop by tomorrow. It’s probably just the climate—like in Haikou or Sanya, it rains for a whole week sometimes. So much rain here is probably normal."
"So does that mean we can leave tomorrow?" Miles Gu asked, eyes lighting up.
"Why do you ask?" Rona Muir had a feeling this rascal wasn’t done yet.
Miles Gu looked at Rona Muir with innocent eyes. "Godmother, you used up all the solid alcohol. If nobody comes to get us tomorrow, we won’t have anything to light the campfire."
Rona Muir instantly panicked and started rummaging through her backpack.
Yamete!
They were really down to their last piece of solid alcohol!
She’d wasted all the solid alcohol from three backpacks!
Rona Muir stood up, feeling tragic, and said to Miles Gu, "Wait here for me. I’ll go out and look for some dry branches! Damn, after days of rain, where am I supposed to find dry wood? I’ll have to pick branches with lots of resin."
Rona Muir plunged into the rain, grabbing every branch she could find off the ground, silently praying they’d actually light. Otherwise…how would they get through tonight and tomorrow?
Arms full of wood, Rona Muir huffed and puffed her way back.
Suddenly, Rona Muir felt a piercing gaze on her back, making her skin crawl.
She turned around, trembling, and—oh my god, could her luck get any worse?!
Was this island full of snakes?
Why were there so many snakes here?
She looked back and saw at least ten thousand snakes, all tangled together in a writhing mass.
And every single snake was brightly colored—just as scary as you could imagine.
She’d only come out to collect branches, but ended up stumbling into a snake pit.
Right now, gathering firewood was the last thing on her mind. She started to back away, slowly and carefully.
She was terrified any sudden movement would wake the entire snake horde!

Rona Muir kept backing away, inch by inch.
Then she witnessed something horrifying.
The big snakes swallowed the newborn baby snakes whole.
Female snakes, busy reproducing, turned and swallowed the male snakes they’d just mated with.
What a chaotic society this was.
Rona Muir’s spine tingled as she kept backing away.
Suddenly—crack!
She’d stepped on a branch and snapped it!
Rona Muir cursed inwardly—this was bad!
Could she really be this unlucky?
Had she actually disturbed the quiet snake horde?
Great, just great—last night, one snake had her running for her life.
Now with so many snakes, what was she supposed to do?
She probably wasn’t even enough to feed them all, right?
No way—she couldn’t let the snakes get to Miles Gu!
Rona Muir saw several snakes in the horde had already noticed her. Gritting her teeth, she ran in the opposite direction from Miles Gu, backpack full of branches.
She’d draw away as many as she could!
She absolutely couldn’t let the snakes find Miles Gu!
Snakes always instinctively chased after running animals.
Especially a living, warm-blooded meal—it was bound to attract the snake horde’s attention.
Sure enough, a few strong snakes slithered after Rona Muir.
Rona Muir was cursing up a storm in her head.
Seriously, was all her bad luck hitting at once?
Nothing had gone right since yesterday!
Seriously, was she just cursed in Fiji or something?
Seriously, I am never coming to Fiji again!
To run faster, Rona Muir tossed all the branches she was carrying and sprinted ahead at full speed.
The rustling behind her grew louder and louder.
The snakes were getting closer.
Rona Muir’s heart was pounding out of her chest!
All she could think was: This is it, I’m done for! By the time they find me, I’ll just be a pile of bones!
Fear mixed with frustration, Rona Muir screamed, "Miles, get to the top of the hill! Run! Don’t stay where you are!"
"Aaaah!" Rona Muir finally cursed out loud, "I’ll fight you reptiles to the end!"
Suddenly, she slammed on the brakes.
There was no road ahead.
As Rona Muir stopped, the snakes stopped too, their cold eyes staring at her, as if deciding how to enjoy their feast.
Rona Muir felt like her whole life was a tragedy.
She’d lived less than thirty years and hadn’t even gotten married.
She finally found a man to fall in love with, and his family tore them apart.
Was she really going to die with that regret, meeting God with nothing but disappointment?
Facing death, her mind suddenly thought of Jiro Hirayama, and she couldn’t help but shout in anger, "Jiro Hirayama! Where the hell are you? Didn’t you say you’d protect me? Damn it! At such a critical moment, where did you go? I’m about to be snake food! Are you going to protect me from inside their stomachs?"
Just then, from below and behind her, a weak voice called out, "Don’t worry, if they dare swallow you, I’ll make them spit you out!"
Rona Muir thought she was hallucinating and muttered to herself, "Is it true that people hallucinate before they die? I really am dying—I’m hearing Jiro Hirayama’s voice! Is God letting me have one last wish before I go? If so, please let me have another chance at life! I swear I’ll stay far away from the ocean and Fiji!"
Still climbing up, Jiro Hirayama, exasperated, yelled up at Rona Muir, "If you don’t come help me up right now, you’ll be snake food for sure!"
Rona Muir snapped out of it, spun around in disbelief, and looked down to see a man soaked to the bone, struggling to climb up the cliff below her.
Rona Muir looked closely and nearly burst into tears of joy!
Jiro Hirayama, why did I never realize how adorable you are?
You arrived at the perfect time!
Just when I was about to be swallowed by snakes, you showed up!
Wait, hold on! If I turn around to help you, won’t that mean I’m showing my backside to the snake horde?
Wouldn’t that just be asking the snakes to bite me?
