Chapter 149: Why Are You Here?
Allen Watson's brows slowly furrowed...
This is simply intolerable!
When Allen Watson looked at Leon, there was a hint of anger in his eyes. As an Archmage, to speak to another Grand Mage with such attitude and tone—this was unprecedented.
He hadn’t even bothered to pursue Leon about his conflict with Raven...
After all, Raven was his only son—the only son who’d been humiliated like that in Seaview City. Yet as his father, he hadn’t stood up for him at all. Just one casual sentence, and the whole matter was brushed aside.
If it had been any other Grand Mage, he’d have died ten times over by now!
Allen Watson told himself—he was being truly sincere.
That’s also why Leon Merlin could casually tell William Merlin, “Two Archmages? I’ll handle them myself...”
Fortunately, at that moment, a knock at the door saved Allen Watson.
Too bad Allen Watson had no idea...
Right then, Allen Watson’s mind was consumed with thoughts of teaching this arrogant young Archmage a lesson—showing him just how vast the gulf between a Grand Mage and an Archmage really was, and proving that making the Watson Family his enemy was the worst mistake of his life.
The spell was ready, the gestures prepared, the magic primed...
But the knock at the door interrupted everything.
Allen Watson was nearly livid. "Who’s knocking?"
"Uh, sorry to bother you..." Hogarth poked his head in cautiously. "I’m looking for Archmage Merlin."
After speaking, Hogarth glanced inside, worried that Archmage Merlin might have an important guest and that his arrival had interrupted something.
In that moment, Hogarth caught sight of the furious Allen Watson. "Archmage Watson?"
Cloudspire Tower and the Watson Family both reside in Auckland, and without direct conflicts of interest, they even occasionally interact. It was perfectly normal for Hogarth to know Allen Watson...
Of course, it was just an acquaintance.
As a ninth-level Archmage, Hogarth was just one step away from being addressed as 'Your Excellency.' Even in Cloudspire Tower, he was a top-tier figure. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have been chosen by Star Sage Joey for the Vanrison’s Formula research team.
As for Allen Watson...
He had only reached the Archmage rank three years ago, and was still just a first-level Archmage. In front of Hogarth, he wasn’t much stronger than a Grand Mage. Besides, Cloudspire Tower was one of the kingdom’s two great mage factions—its strength far surpassed that of the Watson Family.
So when Allen Watson saw Hogarth walk in, his expression froze. When he finally spoke, he was nearly tongue-tied: "Ho-ho-hogarth, Archmage Hogarth, what brings you here?"
"I’m here to deliver a magic relic to Merlin."
Allen Watson sucked in a breath. Delivering a magic relic—to Merlin? Did this mean Leon Merlin had some sort of connection with Archmage Hogarth?
Otherwise, why would Archmage Hogarth personally bring him a magic relic? If it was just a casual relationship, who would go around handing out magic relics?
And the way he said 'Merlin'—so familiar, almost intimate. That’s not how you address someone unless you’re equals or family.
No way they’re equals...
So that meant Leon Merlin was almost certainly Hogarth’s junior.
My gods...
Allen Watson’s face paled. If it were any other Archmage, maybe it wouldn’t matter. But this was Hogarth—just one step away from being called 'Your Excellency.' If Leon Merlin really had such a powerful backer, then this whole trip had been a waste.
Would he really dare to strong-arm Leon Merlin in front of Archmage Hogarth?
Don’t be ridiculous. They might both be Archmages, but the gap between first and ninth rank is enormous. Allen Watson knew that well enough. Frankly, a ninth-level Archmage’s finger was stronger than a first-level Archmage.
But how could this be...
