Laying the Trap, Nolan and Serena Struggle to Cope

Vincent Su had mentally prepared himself for this, but now that it was confirmed—Lady Min really was Prince Nolan’s mother—he couldn’t help feeling a bit awkward inside.

He had never imagined Prince Nolan would have a mother. It was just too strange. And the woman who gave birth to Prince Nolan looked so gentle, kind, and nurturing—she was the polar opposite of Prince Nolan. The two of them didn’t resemble each other at all; standing together, they were a study in contradiction.

Vincent Su struggled to control his conflicted expression and asked cautiously, “What should we do next?”

Prince Nolan’s mother had suddenly come back from the dead, delivered by people from Liancastle. If they didn’t investigate, none of them would feel at ease. But if they did, she was still Prince Nolan’s mother—without his explicit order, they didn’t dare dig too deep.

“Find out where she’s been all these years. I don’t believe her story.” Prince Nolan had never met his mother before; even if she was his biological parent, he felt little attachment. He was willing to use Serena Feng—why would he blindly trust a mother he’d just met?

“We’ve looked into it before—there wasn’t a single trace, perfectly clean, as if she appeared out of thin air.” The moment Lady Min showed up, Vincent Su had investigated her background. All they learned was that she had suddenly appeared in Liancastle; beyond that, nothing.

“Keep digging. I don’t believe she’s been secluded from the world all this time. If she’s shown herself anywhere, there’ll be a trail. If there’s still nothing, it only means she’s extremely suspicious.” Lady Min’s eyes were clear and innocent, untouched by the world—or so they seemed. But Prince Nolan couldn’t believe that a woman nearly forty could be so pure and naïve, even if she was his mother.

“Alright. I’ll have Storm Cloud Bu start from Liancastle.” Vincent Su was certain Lady Min was connected to Liancastle. Whether Liancastle was using Lady Min, or she and Liancastle were working together to scheme against Prince Nolan, they couldn’t afford to drop their guard.

“Go ahead.” Investigating his own mother didn’t trouble Prince Nolan much. His mother was a princess of the Former Dynasty, and now that he’d completely severed ties with the old regime, there was a natural distance between them.

Prince Nolan had confirmed Lady Min’s identity, but he still hadn’t raised her status within Ninth Prince Manor, nor sent her to the Imperial Palace to be named Grand Empress Dowager.
