Assault on the Gilded Rose Supply Lines

Chapter 1340

Farrow slightly bowed, and his calm expression seemed to waver just a little.

"Amy, Leon is very strong, far beyond his rank. When he first arrived in the Odin Kingdom, I couldn’t kill him, and he couldn’t kill me either.

Even among the Rock Mages, my strength is considered quite high. Among Sky Rank mages of the same level, few are my match, yet I still couldn’t kill Leon.

He even once dueled Wilder, the head of the Rodney family. Although few know the details, the victor was Leon. Leon is improving at a remarkable pace; now he’s at least at Sky Rank Level Four. To take him down, Amy and Sunny should join forces.

But it’s not easy to lure Leon out. He hasn’t appeared in public for months. The last time anyone saw him was at the Gilded Rose, and he’s never left Neverwinter City.

Before Farrow could finish speaking, Sunny’s expression changed slightly. She took out a magic beacon, sensed the information within, and then hurriedly left after tossing out a brief remark.

"There’s something important at headquarters. I have to leave Neverwinter City. Farrow, ask your teacher to step in—Amy alone won’t be able to take down that damned Leon!

Amy frowned as he watched Sunny leave in a hurry, but said nothing.

Farrow, you must ask your teacher to step in. I’ll create an opportunity for you, make Leon leave Neverwinter City, and give your teacher the time and chance to finish off that damned Leon.

We’ll make that damned Leon pay for everything he’s done. Anyone who crosses us must be punished by death!

Farrow nodded, saying nothing more. He simply looked in the direction Sunny had left, feeling a bit puzzled inside.

Sunny is the headquarters’ liaison, a key figure for external communications. Why did she suddenly leave? Did something happen at headquarters?

Impossible. How could anything happen at headquarters? It must be something extremely important. Mafa Merlin is just a small matter. I should focus on my own tasks.

The last time, when Leon first arrived in the Odin Kingdom, our assassination attempt failed, making him more alert. The fools from the Rodney family and the Roosevelt Trading Consortium couldn’t kill Leon, but they did enough to muddy the waters. Now we can take action ourselves.

It’s a pity we didn’t get rid of Mafa Merlin last time, or none of this would’ve happened. I’ll have to ask my teacher to step in...

Farrow pondered these things as he quietly left. Meanwhile, Amy, whose body seemed shrouded in a faint haze of black-gray mist, also took out a magic beacon and quickly sent out several cryptic messages.

Time passed. Leon’s backlash finally healed completely. This time, taking advantage of the backlash and the tremors in the natural demi-plane, Leon personally sorted through the rules within the demi-plane, gaining even more benefits. His insight into the rules increased far more than usual.

And as the backlash faded, his rank quietly rose to Sky Rank Level Four. There were no phenomena, nothing unnatural—it was as simple and natural as eating or drinking. Just like that, he advanced to Sky Rank Level Four...

By the time Leon noticed, he was already at Sky Rank Level Four...

This was because Leon’s understanding of the rules had already far surpassed the limits of Sky Rank Level Three. He’d accumulated enough in every aspect, but still hadn’t crossed that last threshold. This time, the backlash actually turned out to be a blessing...

Once his injuries were healed, the first thing Leon did was visit the small mountain peak where Agalon resided. After climbing the peak, he found no trace of Agalon—everything was exactly as it had been when he left. It seemed Agalon hadn’t returned yet.

Leon wasn’t worried about Agalon. That Void Beast was strong, but still far weaker than Agalon. Maybe something else had come up.

Leon left a mark at the summit to let Agalon know he’d returned safely, then turned and left.

Though the breakthrough went smoothly and left no lingering issues, it was still necessary to go through the usual consolidation.

Back at the Gilded Rose, Leon returned once more to the natural demi-plane.

During this period of calm, in a city not far from the border between the Odin Kingdom’s northwest and the Ston Kingdom, a Gilded Rose caravan transporting materials was ambushed. As they passed through a canyon, the mountains on both sides suddenly collapsed, and massive boulders rained down like a rampaging mudslide, burying the entire canyon.

In less than a minute, the canyon was filled in and the caravan was nearly wiped out. When the surviving members reached the canyon’s entrance, they discovered that two massive stone walls had somehow risen on both sides, blocking every possible exit...

Whether it was the escorts or the team of alchemical puppets, all were buried in that narrow canyon...

Within three days, five suppliers who provided raw materials to the Gilded Rose were targeted for assassination. One family head was killed, and among the remaining four, many powerful members were also eliminated.

In the northwest of the Odin Kingdom, Gilded Rose caravans transporting raw materials suffered thirteen attacks in just three days, losing nearly half their supply...

The Gilded Rose is expanding faster and larger than ever. The number of alchemical potions sold daily is staggering, and the team of alchemists can barely keep up. This is even with Leon’s strict work-hour regulations. There’s always more Purple Gold Coins to earn, and keeping demand higher than supply is actually better.

With the shop’s expansion, the demand for raw materials has grown even larger. Now, the Gilded Rose’s potion sales in the Odin Kingdom have surpassed those in the Andalusia Kingdom.

Back in the Andalusia Kingdom, the Merlin Family was truly the strongest mage force. Plus, their relationships with several major factions in Andalusia were excellent, so no one dared cause trouble, and the supply of raw materials was never a problem.

But here in the Odin Kingdom, the demand for raw materials is so great that we have to rely on local suppliers. Recently, we’ve been negotiating with several major magical plant-growing families in the Odin Kingdom.

But apart from these negotiations, there’s been no real progress.

With the raw material supply blocked, the Gilded Rose’s inventory won’t last long. Even if we tap into resources from the Furyflame Plane, it won’t sustain us for long.

Faro’s hair is turning gray with worry over this. The people he’s sent out have clashed with the attackers several times, but not a single survivor has ever been left behind—not even a corpse. The bodies quickly corrode and vanish...

Any supplier attacked can see that someone is targeting the Gilded Rose. But these people don’t play by the rules—they go straight for assassinations. Even the head of a medicinal plant family was killed. In less than three days, four Gilded Rose suppliers cut ties and even paid hefty Purple Gold Coin compensation...

"Lord Hughes, there’s something truly important to report to Lord Merlin right now. Could you please notify him? When you get back, three pieces of the latest noble dessert from Old Hans’ Bakery!"

Faro was frantic. This time, the troublemakers weren’t playing by the rules—their actions were reckless and self-defeating. Attacking the Gilded Rose caravans was understandable, but...

But assassinating suppliers—even killing a family head—that’s just asking for public outrage. Whoever did this, by cutting off the Gilded Rose’s supply, won’t gain anything. And in the future, they can forget about working with these suppliers, or any others. The faction behind this will have a hard time finding partners ever again.

Hughes slowly finished the last bite of dessert before shooting Faro a sidelong glance.

"You said it, not me. I didn’t force you—five pieces of the latest noble dessert!"

Faro was stunned, mouth open, about to protest that it was three pieces. But after a quick calculation, he changed his tune immediately.

"Alright, five pieces of the newest noble dessert—and they must be from Old Hans’ Bakery, personally made by Old Hans himself!"

Hughes instantly broke into a wide grin, eyes narrowing to slits. He fluttered his wings and flew straight to the heart of the Gilded Rose, vanishing in a flash.

Entering the natural demi-plane, Hughes flapped his wings toward Leon’s alchemy lab. He’d gotten used to traversing space without a body, but now with one, he found flying with wings rather enjoyable. Only as a regular magical pet owl could he truly savor the finest desserts...

Flying into Leon’s alchemy lab, Hughes shouted at the top of his lungs.

"Lord Merlin, Lord Merlin! Faro that idiot is looking for you—says someone’s causing trouble and wants you to wipe them all out!"

Hughes flew to the door of one of the alchemy labs, poked his head in, and peeked inside with a hint of fear in his eyes. Hughes, usually reckless and fearless toward all other creatures and dangers, was somehow always afraid of Leon...

Leon quickly assembled an alchemical puppet, his brows tightly knit, seemingly dissatisfied.

Hearing Hughes’ shout, Leon casually set the newly crafted alchemical puppet aside and looked at Hughes, who was obediently perched on the nearby shelf.

"What’s going on?"

Hughes shrank his neck, his body instinctively compressing until he looked half his usual size—a reflex of the Shadowfeather Owl when facing an unbeatable opponent...

"Lord Merlin, that idiot Faro didn’t explain clearly. He just sent me to report to you. He must be out of his depth and needs your help..."

Hughes instinctively wanted to badmouth Faro, but stopped halfway.

Faro may be a fool, but he’s gotten me plenty of delicious desserts lately. If that idiot gets taken out by Lord Merlin, who’ll buy me sweets in the future?

Forget it, I’ll help him out. After all, Lord Hughes has eaten his fair share of Faro’s desserts...

"Lord Merlin, they say the troublemakers are really strong, and they’ve killed a lot of people and destroyed plenty of things. This isn’t Faro’s fault..."

Leon ignored Hughes’ rambling and instantly vanished, leaving the natural demi-plane. Seeing Leon leave, Hughes looked horrified, his head spinning several times as he snuck out of the lab like a thief. Spotting Lord Shaun sunbathing on a distant boulder, Hughes sighed with relief and quickly left the demi-plane.

Leon appeared at the Gilded Rose. Soon, Faro gave him a full report of what had happened. As he listened, Leon’s expression grew dark.

"Someone’s targeting the Gilded Rose’s material supply again? Have you found out who’s behind it this time?"

Faro looked miserable and shook his head.

"Lord Merlin, things seem different this time. The attackers were only interested in killing—they didn’t steal anything. The missing goods were only taken later by passersby after our people had been killed.

We don’t know who did it. They didn’t just attack our caravans, but also assassinated several families closely allied with us—all top suppliers to the Gilded Rose."

The assassination of a supplier family’s head has had a terrible impact. Whoever did it gained nothing. Those families have already posted high bounties in hopes of getting any information at all.

For the foreseeable future, anyone who’s been in contact with them will be a suspect. Two supplier families even think the Gilded Rose is behind it—or at least deeply involved.
