Jay Kee Must Work Hard

1/4/2026

Cherry Miller was truly speechless at how Yina Yin and Ryan King always seemed to enjoy stirring up trouble.

Still, she kept this matter in mind. She had to find a chance to properly teach Jay Kee that shortcuts in life never work.

There are no shortcuts in life.

If there were shortcuts, why would she have worked so hard all her life, studying and working tirelessly?

The respect and position she has now were earned through hard work, not by taking shortcuts.

That chance came sooner than expected.

Because of the holiday, Cherry Miller didn’t go to the office. She stayed home, directing Blue to make snacks, while Yina Yin and Ryan King played chess in the living room.

Once the snacks were ready, Cherry brought them over.

Ryan King didn’t hold back his praise: "Sis Cherry, your cooking keeps getting better! Every time I eat your snacks, I’m happy for the whole day!"

Cherry Miller laughed, "Ryan, you’re such a sweet talker—how many girls have you charmed with that mouth of yours?"

As soon as she reached the underground garage, Jay Kee rushed over. "Sis Cherry!"

"Hm?" Cherry Miller paused and looked back at Jay Kee. "What's up?"

"Where are you headed?" Jay Kee asked.

"Just going to the supermarket," Cherry replied.

"What a coincidence! I need to go too—let's go together?" Jay Kee said quickly.

"Sure," Cherry smiled.

Jay Kee eagerly hurried over to help open the car door, his enthusiasm off the charts.

Cherry didn’t mind his antics, hopped in, and drove straight to a fancy imported supermarket nearby. Most of the goods there were high quality, high priced, and a lot were fresh imports.

In short, one word: expensive.

Jay Kee was so shocked by the prices inside, he was left speechless.

Even a small bunch of greens here cost dozens of bucks!

Who can afford to eat here?!

Cherry figured this was the perfect chance to give Jay Kee a little life lesson.

So Cherry spoke up, "Jay Kee."

"I'm here, Sis," Jay Kee answered obediently. "Go ahead."

"Let's talk." Cherry pointed to a corner lounge chair in the supermarket, ordered two juices, and sat down.

"Okay." Jay Kee sat across from her, nervously guessing what Cherry might say. Was Miss Miller finally going to accept him? Just the thought made him excited.

Cherry lowered her gaze and said, "Everyone has their own ambitions, but I still want to say this: in life, it's better to rely on yourself."

Jay Kee was smart—he got Cherry’s meaning right away. He looked up quickly, "Sis Cherry, are you turning me down again? Is it because of those two at your place? Or someone else? I admit, I’m not as good-looking as them, but I have my own strengths they don’t have..."

"It’s not what you think," Cherry sighed. "We’re not that kind of relationship."

"Sis Cherry, why bother lying to me?" Jay Kee chuckled lightly. "I get it. For someone like you, it’s normal to have a few admirers out there."

Cherry Miller: "..."

"I haven’t seen much myself, but I’ve heard and witnessed enough. Men and women are all the same. With someone as amazing as you, of course you’ll have lots of people chasing after you. I know I’m not qualified, but I just don’t want to give up! I admit I’m ambitious, and yeah, a bit ordinary, but I want to live my life just like this!"

Cherry Miller: "..."

"I get a little jealous, sure, but I can handle it. You don’t have to worry about me—I’m fine with it. I just want to be one of the people in your life, not the only one. Honestly, I don’t have what it takes to be your only one, even though I’ve dreamed about it."

Cherry could only rub her forehead helplessly. Why was Jay Kee so impossible to reason with?

"Jay Kee, I’ll be honest: I’m never going to accept you. You really don’t need to waste your time on me," Cherry said, completely straightforward. "I have someone I love—he’s strong, outstanding, and amazing. I can’t see anyone else but him."

"I know. But it’s fine," Jay Kee’s eyes flashed with hurt. "I don’t need you to love me. As long as I have a small place by your side, I’ll be happy."

Cherry stared at him speechlessly. What kind of person is this?!

"It doesn’t matter how many people you like, as long as you don’t hate me." Jay Kee said, "I’ll work hard! I’ll make you accept me, little by little!"

Cherry felt like she just couldn’t communicate with Jay Kee!

"What if, in the future, I never accept you?" Cherry asked directly. "What if I said no matter how hard you try, it won’t work?"

"That’s my business, Sis Cherry, you don’t have to worry about me." Jay Kee smiled. "Just the fact that you care enough to ask makes me happy!"

Care? Yeah right!

She just doesn’t want to be pestered, okay?

"You said it yourself—everyone has their own ambitions. Maybe other people don’t want to share, but I’m the one who’s willing to." Jay Kee said stubbornly, "I’ve made up my mind about you, Sis Cherry, and I’m not giving up."

Cherry Miller just wanted to flip the table.

Why is Jay Kee so stubborn?

If Charles Yin came back and found out about him...

Forget it. Jay Kee really is the type who won’t give up until he hits a wall.

Let him get a taste of how tough the real world can be!

She’d already warned him as much as she could!

Cherry finished her juice, quietly got up, and prepared to leave.

"Sis Cherry!" Jay Kee called out from behind, "I’m not giving up that easily! No matter how many times you turn me down, I won’t quit! If one year’s not enough, I’ll try two, three, four—I’ll prove my sincerity with my actions!"

Cherry couldn’t help but roast him in her heart—she didn’t even want to look directly at the word 'sincerity' anymore!

Is that really how you’re supposed to use 'sincerity'?

Cherry grabbed her things and hurried home, flustered. Yina Yin immediately came over, full of gossip: "Hey, hey, hey, something’s off—spill it. Did you bump into Jay Kee again?"

Cherry sighed, "You’ve got your eyes glued to us, haven’t you?"

Ryan King perked up too. "Sis Cherry, he’s still pestering you, isn’t he?"

Cherry said, "I made it super clear—I’m not interested, and he should give up. But he said he doesn’t mind sharing me with others..."

Ryan King gave her a thumbs up. "He’s got guts."

Yina Yin couldn’t help but add, "He and Mason Ming are friends, but what a difference! Mason would rather die than be a kept man, but Jay Kee’s dying to be one."

Ryan King said, "Yina, that’s because Cherry’s birdcage is covered in diamonds! Why doesn’t Jay Kee go chase someone else? He’s only stuck on Cherry because she’s rich, beautiful, and capable! Tsk tsk, he’s got sharp eyes, I’ll give him that! This is what you call a waiting game! Man, I can’t wait for Charles Yin to come back!"

Cherry shrugged. "I’ve done all I can. Whatever happens next, it’s up to him."

Just then, Yina Yin’s phone buzzed—she got a message.

After reading it, Yina Yin stood up right away. "Don’t wait up for me tonight, I’m heading to the hospital."

"Did something happen to Mason Ming?" Cherry asked. "Want me to come with?"

"Nothing serious, I’ll go by myself." Yina Yin waved her hand. "Ryan, keep an eye on Quentin Chin for me—give him something to do so he doesn’t cause trouble."

"What happened now?" Cherry and Ryan King asked in unison.

"Mason Ming just told me that Quentin Chin sent someone to the hospital to apologize and gave Mason a chunk of money. Mason doesn’t want it, so he asked me to return it to Quentin." Yina Yin spoke as she grabbed her car keys and headed out. "I’ll go check on him. Mason’s not like Jay Kee—he’s really just a pure kid."

Cherry nodded. "Okay."

Ryan King flashed an 'OK' gesture. "I’ll find something for Quentin to do. That old guy really knows how to stir up trouble."

Yina Yin turned and headed out.

At the hospital, Mason Ming was staring blankly at a check on the table.

"What’s wrong? Never seen that much money before?" Yina Yin joked as she walked into the room.

"Miss Yin?" Mason Ming’s eyes lit up the moment he saw Yina Yin. "I’ve never seen so much money before, but I won’t take a cent of what I shouldn’t have."

Yina Yin picked up the check—it was clearly written for five million.

Not bad, not too much.

Yina Yin pulled up a chair. "Don’t want it?"

"Nope," Mason Ming said firmly. "I don’t want any more ties to Mr. Chin."

"Technically, he’s the reason you broke your leg, so it’s fair for him to pay compensation. But you’ve made an enemy of Quentin Chin, and while things are quiet for now, the future will be tough in the entertainment industry. People won’t want to get close, and the company will shelve you to avoid offending him. If you ask me, you should take the money and leave the business—plan for a new life. It’s enough for you and your mother for a while."

Mason Ming bit his lip, looking resistant.

He clearly didn’t want to.
