Forced Smile

1/4/2026

Cecilia Gu hurriedly wiped away her tears, pretending nothing had happened, and forced a smile. "Really? I had no idea..."

"Yeah, K City is the capital of Eastshire Province. My grandfather is the commander of the Eastshire Military District," Max Mo explained simply.

Cecilia suddenly understood!

No wonder...

Of course the Mo Family would be notified about Joe Qi's wedding. It'd be weird if Max Mo didn't show up.

"My family's in Xenton, not far from K City," Max Mo continued. "But our main business is centered in K City."

Cecilia nodded absentmindedly. She really didn't care about Max Mo's affairs.

"What's wrong? You don't look well. Didn't you bring a doctor? Want me to call one for you? If you need anything here, just let me know. If I can help, it's not a problem," Max Mo asked with concern.

Cecilia shook her head. "It's nothing, just... probably not used to the climate here? I'm fine. I can't take medicine right now anyway, so I'll just tough it out."

Cecilia quickly made up an excuse and changed the subject. "I heard Mr. Joe Qi invited a lot of groomsmen to his wedding. Are you one of them?"

"Yeah." Max Mo smiled slightly. "You... you're not part of the bridesmaid group, are you?"

Cecilia glanced at her belly with a self-deprecating smile. "I've never heard of a pregnant woman being a bridesmaid. I guess I'm just a special guest thanks to the baby."

Max Mo chuckled softly. "By the way, why are you here alone? Where is everyone else?"

Max Mo noticed that Cecilia didn't even have her assistant with her, and couldn't help feeling a bit dissatisfied with Charles Yin.

"I got separated from them earlier..." Cecilia didn't want Max Mo to know too much, so she just made up something.

No matter what, her situation with Charles Yin was her own private business.

Since it's private, there's no need for too many people to know.

Sure enough, a hint of disappointment flashed in Max Mo's eyes.

He could sense Cecilia's distance from him.

A wave of frustration hit Max Mo.

In Eastshire Province, Max Mo was the number one eligible bachelor—countless women would do anything to be with him.

But Cecilia wasn't like those other women. Not only did she never try to get close to Max Mo, she always kept a safe distance.

Max Mo even wondered if he should look in the mirror—was he really that unattractive, is that why Cecilia kept him at arm's length?

But Max Mo was widely recognized as a handsome young man, so why did Cecilia see him as some kind of monster?

Since Cecilia didn't want to talk, Max Mo didn't press her—no point in making himself even more annoying.

"Mr. Mo? Why are you here? The guys are all waiting for you!" Just then, someone rushed in, glanced quickly at Cecilia, and suddenly shouted, "Miss Yun! Why are you here... Weren't you..."

Cecilia quickly looked up and saw an unfamiliar rich kid staring at her in shock.

Miss Yun?

Oh, he must have mistaken me for someone else.

Cecilia shook her head and replied, "You've got the wrong person. My last name is Gu."

After saying that, Cecilia turned to Max Mo and said, "You go ahead, I'll go look for my assistant."

With that, Cecilia stood up, nodded at the still-dazed rich kid, and walked away.

As soon as Cecilia left, Max Mo was about to follow her, but the rich kid grabbed his arm. "Mr. Mo, am I dreaming? Pinch me! I just saw my goddess! Isn't the eldest Miss Yun... wasn't she...?"

Max Mo snapped, "Quit yelling! Her name is Cecilia Gu! Go tell the others and make sure nobody starts spreading nonsense!"

The rich kid still looked dazed. "She's not Nora Yun? God, they look exactly the same... it's uncanny..."

Cecilia managed to avoid the crowd, but realized she was totally unfamiliar with this place and had no idea where to go.

Just as Cecilia was hesitating, a maid hurried in and said, "Mrs. Yin, the host invites you to dinner."

"Joe Qi? Oh, okay." Cecilia nodded absentmindedly. She really had no idea where she was supposed to eat.

She didn't even know where her own room was...

So Cecilia just followed the maid all the way to the dining room on the first floor.

As soon as Cecilia walked in, she saw Charles Yin sitting side by side with Sylvia Ran.

She lowered her eyes and looked away.

The pain in her heart surged again.

Cecilia, didn't you already make up your mind just now?

Why does your heart still hurt?

Know your place and do what you're supposed to do.

Cecilia, you can do this!

Cecilia forced herself to take a deep breath and slowly walked over.

Instead of sitting next to Charles Yin, Cecilia chose a seat across from him—diagonally across, to be exact.

"Sorry I'm late. The layout here is so confusing—I got lost on the way," Cecilia apologized as soon as she arrived.

"It's all my fault—I forgot to assign you a maid," said the woman next to Joe Qi with a smile. "I'm really sorry about that."

Cecilia looked over. The woman was about twenty-four or twenty-five, leaning intimately against Joe Qi.

Cecilia was stunned. Isn't it a tradition that the bride and groom aren't supposed to see each other the day before the wedding?

Then again, even Joe Qi's father wasn't invited to the wedding, so it's not like they're following any rules.

Cecilia smiled politely. "It's fine, I just have no sense of direction."

Dieyi Chen looked at Cecilia with a complicated expression, then glanced at Sylvia Ran sitting next to Charles Yin, and sighed softly.

Before meeting Cecilia, Dieyi actually felt bad for Sylvia Ran.

She thought Sylvia and Charles Yin still had feelings for each other, but Cecilia was in the way.

Now that she'd met Cecilia in person, Dieyi suddenly felt that Cecilia wasn't as unreasonable as people said...

Cecilia didn't even glance at Charles Yin, talking only to Joe Qi and Dieyi Chen the whole time.

At that moment, Sean Kerr came over with Rona Muir, who was pouting.

Rona glanced at the seats and immediately sat down next to Cecilia.

"What's going on?" Joe Qi looked at Sean Kerr, then at Rona Muir. "Where did you two go?"

Rona sighed. "Joe Qi, can I ask you something? Can my room not be next to my boss's?"

"Why?" Joe Qi asked, puzzled.

Rona sighed again. "My love life! Don't you guys know? As long as my boss is around, my love life is doomed! I'm twenty-five, you're all getting married, and I'm still single—can't you let me have a chance?"

A flash of irritation crossed Sean Kerr's handsome face. "None of those guys look at you seriously. Are you only satisfied if you get hurt?"

"Come on, boss! When have I ever let anyone take advantage of me? I'm your VP—who would dare?!" Rona said helplessly. "How about this, I'll share a room with Cecilia, okay? Besides, I noticed Charles Yin isn't paying much attention to Cecilia this time, so I'll take care of her."

Charles Yin's hand, holding his cup, suddenly froze.

Charles Yin quickly glanced at Cecilia.

Cecilia's expression didn't look too good.

She forced a small smile and said softly, "Yeah, besides Rona, I don't know anyone here. I really don't mind, but I wonder if Mr. Kerr trusts me enough?"

Charles Yin's eyes narrowed slightly.

What did she mean by that?

If she's sharing a room with Rona, where do I go?

Sylvia Ran, sitting nearby, was absolutely delighted.

As long as the married couple aren't close, she might have a chance!

"Miss Gu, you really are funny. How could I possibly control my VP?" Sean Kerr smiled at Cecilia. "If you want to share a room, go ahead!"

Rona immediately grabbed Cecilia's arm, pressing her G-cup figure against Cecilia's arm. "It's settled, then! We'll share a room!"

"Haha, Vice President Muir, you really are a joker." Max Mo's voice drifted over from behind. "Miss Gu and Mr. Yin are husband and wife—how could we split them up?"
