I've Been a Concubine's Child My Whole Life

Besides that, Maya Summers and Jason Zhuo were both present.

Aunt Wan, though shaken, also attended.

However, she looked quite pale. Even with makeup, it was obvious she hadn’t slept a wink last night.

Dowager Lady Evelyn Zhu’s eyes were sharp as ever, and she noticed immediately.

“Xuezhen.” After some small talk, the Dowager called out, “None of us expected what happened yesterday. Try to put your mind at ease.”

“Madam.” Grace Wan’s eyes instantly reddened. “Why did this happen? Am I really such an unlucky person?”

“You’ve been part of the Zhu family for more than twenty years. The children are all grown now. Besides, Goldie is even the Empress—how could you be unlucky?” said the Dowager. “I suppose you and Minister Zhuo’s birth charts just don’t match.”

“Madam, do you secretly dislike me?” Grace Wan asked tearfully.

“Of course not!” the Dowager replied. “If your charts don’t match, it’s Minister Zhuo’s issue. We’ve all seen what you’ve done over the years!”

“Madam, you really know how to comfort people.” Grace Wan dabbed at her tears with a handkerchief.

"Anyway, you need to let it go. In this world... if it's meant to be, it'll be. If it's not, don't force it!" the Dowager advised.

"Yes, I understand," Grace Wan replied, lowering her gaze to hide the anger in her eyes.

Why was she the one left out by fate?

Does that wretched Lian’er really have it in her fate?

She was just a stray, an unknown wild woman!

"Grandmother, I heard it was Grace who suggested the fortune-telling," Kevin Zhuo spoke up.

He had come this morning with Sierra.

"Yes! It was me," Grace replied.

"Did you do something shady behind the scenes?" Kevin Zhuo stared at her coldly.

"Second Brother, that's a bit much," Jason Zhuo couldn't help but interject. "What, you think she could call down lightning from the heavens to strike the Imperial Advisor?"

Kevin Zhuo shot Jason Zhuo a sideways glance. "I'm talking to Grace! You're just an outsider, so butt out!"

Jason Zhuo's face darkened, but he said nothing.

"Kevin! Watch your mouth!" Grace Wan immediately put on her 'teaching mother' act. "Jason may not be your father's biological son, but he's officially recognized by the Lady herself! If you want to talk status, he's actually more noble than you. You're just a concubine's son—how dare you talk to the legitimate heir like that?"

"Legitimate heir?" Kevin Zhuo sneered. "Yeah, he's the legitimate one! I was born to a concubine, that's my fate! So what, the whole Zhu family is going to be handed to him?"

"I told you to stop!" Aunt Wan barked even more sternly.

"Enough, don't scold Kevin anymore!" The Dowager, unable to help but feel sorry for her own grandson, tried to soften things. "I know he's frustrated because of what happened yesterday. Kevin, don't get hung up on these titles—they're just labels. Everything in the Zhu family is yours; no one can take that away from you!"

Kevin Zhuo finally looked a little better and said in a spoiled tone, "Grandmother, you're always the nicest to me!"

"Your father only has one son—if I don't treat you well, who would I treat well?" the Dowager replied. "By the way, how's Sierra feeling?"

"She's doing well, Dowager," Sierra replied with a smile.

She was already starting to show.

Today, she looked radiant, her eyes full of joy.

It seemed... Kevin Zhuo had finally accepted her.

"Hmm, Kevin, you're going to be a father soon. Get your act together and spend more time with her," the Dowager instructed. "She's carrying your firstborn!"
