Emerald Dragon Corpse

Chapter 264: The Emerald Dragon's Corpse

It was a colossal creature, as massive as a small mountain. Its scales gleamed like emeralds, translucent and flawless, covering a body that radiated sheer power. This was a fully grown, true Emerald Dragon, sprawled right in the center of the Plane Path. Even from several hundred meters away, Leon felt an overwhelming pressure.

"Oh my god..." Leon sucked in a cold breath, sweat instantly pouring down his forehead.

Legend has it, in the distant Silver Age, the four pureblooded elven clans ruled the land, while the Five-Colored Dragons reigned over the skies. It was the era of dragons and elves—until Emperor Charles shattered the Throne of All Things, and the Five-Colored Dragons and pureblood elves together sailed the Emerald Ark into the endless void...

But unlike the pureblood elves, many descendants of the Five-Colored Dragons still live in the world of Northend. Even now, traces of these legendary dragons can be found in countless tales.

But those are just legends...

In truth, the Five-Colored Dragons stand at the very top of Northend's food chain. They embody the world's most formidable power; in every legend and epic, they are the ultimate beings. Some even believe the Five-Colored Dragons are direct descendants of the primordial Hyber Dragon God, the first dragon born of heaven and earth.

Every Five-Colored Dragon is a Sky Rank entity, capable of destroying a city—or even a nation—on a whim. Their power is simply not something humans can contend with.

Forget the Five-Colored Dragons—even an ordinary dragon is at least on par with a titled Archmage. Take the Bone Dragon on the Bone Plane: it’s just the remains of a dragon that died millions of years ago, turned into an undead creature under the influence of death magic.

Yet even that undead beast once forced Leon to use the Death Tome...

If Leon hadn’t just fused the Sage’s Chapter, activating the Death Tome’s power to open the Plane Path, he might not even be standing here right now...

And now, lying right there—is an Emerald Dragon!

One of the legendary Five-Colored Dragons: the Emerald Dragon!

Leon nearly lost his mind on the spot...

Emerald Dragons aren’t exactly easy to deal with...

Everyone knows the Emerald Dragon—also called the Jade Dragon—is the guardian of nature and order, the truly benevolent one among the Five-Colored Dragons.

But don’t forget: the nature and order they guard is the absolute nature and order as seen by elves and dragons. To them, humans are destroyers of that balance. If this Emerald Dragon wakes up, it’ll probably just unleash a breath of dragonfire...

"Wait, something’s not right..." Just as Leon was reeling, a sudden thought popped into his mind.

Leon suddenly realized: along this entire Plane Path, he hadn’t encountered a single living creature.

The human mage—a corpse.

The pureblood elves—a pile of corpses.

So...

Could this Emerald Dragon also be just a corpse?

With that thought, Leon quickly cast a Life Detection spell.

At a time like this, Life Detection was undoubtedly the best choice. As the guardian of nature and order, an Emerald Dragon should radiate immense life force. Even from several hundred meters away, the spell should have picked up something.

"Huh..." As soon as the spell was cast, a look of surprise flashed across Leon's face.

Sure enough, not a trace of life energy...

Only then did Leon finally breathe a sigh of relief. He cast a few amplification spells on himself just in case, then slowly approached that mountain-sized corpse...

When Leon got close to the Emerald Dragon, Life Detection still showed nothing. By now, Leon was almost certain—the Emerald Dragon was truly dead.

No, not just dead...

This Emerald Dragon’s corpse didn’t just lack any sign of life—it didn’t have the slightest trace of magical energy either. Leon’s expression shifted.

This made no sense at all...

So far, he’d seen the corpses of three kinds of beings—human mage, pureblood elf, Emerald Dragon. Three different races, yet they all shared one trait: not a single trace of magical energy in their remains.

In other words, none of these corpses retained any power at all...

Which was seriously bizarre. After all, the source of power for each of these beings was completely different.

A human mage’s power comes from the Mana Vortex, pureblood elves from their Innate Magic Sigils, and dragons from their bloodline. Even if something happened after death to drain their power, it shouldn’t be this uniform—like it was planned.

What the hell is going on...?

Could it be that this Plane Path is so bizarre, it drains all power like the Crystal Balance Avatar does?

"No way..." Just thinking about it made Leon shudder, instinctively glancing around...

But something still felt off...

Leon could clearly feel it—his own magical power hadn’t changed at all. It was exactly the same as when he entered, not the slightest sign of being drained.

Wait, there’s more...

A human mage, a dozen pureblood elves, plus an Emerald Dragon—why did they all die here? What terrifying secret lies behind this Plane Path, that even they couldn’t withstand, leaving them to die in obscurity?

Think about it: whether it’s that human mage wielding two Essence Relics, those pureblood elves who were all either Sky Rank mages or titled Archmages, or the Emerald Dragon—each one was immensely powerful. Even in the peak era ten thousand years later, their deaths would have caused an uproar...

How come I’ve never heard a word about this?

It’s not just one or two—it’s a dozen, maybe twenty...

So many powerful beings dying—how could there not be any trace or rumor?

Leon turned it over and over in his mind, but the questions only piled up, none with any answers. He couldn’t help but let out a bitter laugh. As for the Apocalypse Plane behind the Plane Path, his curiosity was now tinged with a growing sense of awe...

That’s probably a place mortals can never truly set foot in.

At first, Salomon, Lance, and the others were thrilled to hear the Emerald Dragon was dead. Everyone knows dragons are walking treasure troves—especially high-tier ones like an Emerald Dragon, one of the Five-Colored Dragons. Even a single drop of blood or a scale could be a priceless magical material.

Immediately, the group started discussing how to divide up the Emerald Dragon’s corpse.

But unfortunately, before they got far, Leon interrupted.

Actually, Leon didn’t say much...

He simply flicked out a Wind Blade.

The Wind Blade sliced effortlessly through the dragon’s belly. Those emerald-like scales, which should have rivaled Essence Relics in defense, now seemed as fragile as blocks of green tofu—unable to withstand even the weakest spell.

Everyone was stunned...

What the hell is going on?!

"Damn it, all for nothing..." Salomon was the first to recover, cursing in frustration.

It was obvious now: the Emerald Dragon’s corpse couldn’t even withstand a Wind Blade. How could it be considered valuable magical material? Even a butcher would complain the meat wasn’t fresh enough...
