“Everything’s in our backpacks. We lost all our things along the way.” Faye Snow’s cheeks flushed with embarrassment. She knew that she and Yvonne Moore had ended up in this predicament entirely because of her own actions.
Joe Di frowned, but he didn’t press further about how Yvonne and Faye had ended up here.
Seeing Joe’s frown, Faye hurried to explain, “Yvonne and I, along with two other friends, went to visit Lethe Temple. I suddenly saw a wooden bridge I’d never seen before. I’ve been to Lethe Temple several times, and there was never a bridge like that. I thought it was a new attraction, so I stepped onto it. But as soon as I did, I saw several gray wolves. I panicked and ran…”
Yvonne Moore picked up the story, “When I saw Faye running, I ran too. She said there were several wolves, and even though I didn’t see them myself, I believed her. We dropped our bags and phones while running, and now we’re completely lost. For the past few days, we’ve survived on wild fruit, roots, and a few pieces of chocolate.”
“You really saw wolves?” Joe Di asked, puzzled. Logically, since Lethe Temple was a tourist spot, there shouldn’t be wolves wandering around.
Faye hesitated, then said, “I was sure I saw them at the time, but later I started to doubt myself. Lethe Temple is on the outer edge of the Lethe Mountains, separated from the dangerous areas. How could there be wolves here?”
“How long have you been here?”
“Maybe two or three days. We’ve been running and scared the whole time, so it’s hard to tell exactly…” After answering Joe’s question, Faye hesitated, then looked at him and asked, “Big brother, are you lost here just like us?”
Joe nodded, “That’s right, I’m lost too. My name’s Joe Di—just call me Joe. There’s a lake not far from here. Let’s spend the night by the lake, find something to eat, and tomorrow we’ll look for a way out.”
“Ah…” Before Joe could finish, Faye cried out again, her voice trembling with fear. “I see the wooden bridge again—it’s right over there!”
