Negotiation for Phelps's Release

Chapter 1143

Leon shook his head.

"He's still a true Heavenly Mage. It's not that easy for someone like him to die. He can't use his transcendental power right now, but at least he can protect his own life. Seven Four-Element Bombs aren't enough to kill him..."

Leon spoke with ease, but the others nearby broke out in cold sweat. Just imagining themselves facing such terrifying magic made it impossible to laugh.

Especially hearing Leon's words—it sounded like he could unleash even more Four-Element Bombs at once...

All four Heavenly Mages shuddered in unison.

But Leon knew that the Four-Element Bomb had already reached the peak power of an eighth-level spell—that was its limit. Even with Law Sigils, it couldn't surpass that, and it was still far from the might of a transcendental spell.

So, to boost its power, the only option was to increase the number. Unleashing more Four-Element Bombs at once made for a decent effect. If the quantity was high enough, it could almost rival a transcendental spell.

Still, Leon wanted to create a true transcendental spell. Inspired by fragments of memory about nuclear bombs, he wondered if he could build on the Four-Element Bomb to invent a spell that triggered a chain reaction after exploding. If that reaction happened fast enough, the resulting force would be on par with a nuke.

Unfortunately, he still hadn't managed it. He'd have to wait until he broke through to the Heavenly Mage rank and gained transcendental power before he could hope to create such a spell.

If he ever managed to invent that spell, it would be the ultimate weapon. Destroying a minor demi-plane would be as simple as planting a bunch of mushrooms—one lap around and the whole plane would probably collapse...

While Leon was pondering improvements to the Four-Element Bomb, Hubert came back, dragging a blood-soaked humanoid behind him...

He tossed his catch to the ground—even Morgan, who usually loved to watch a spectacle, couldn't bear to look. It was just too gruesome...

Phelps was already completely unconscious. His mage robe was reduced to a few ragged strips, three of his limbs were broken, and both arms and one leg twisted at unnatural angles.

One hand still clutched a staff—well, half a staff. The other half was nowhere to be found.

His hair, once meticulously groomed, was mostly burned away. His skin was raw and bloody, covered in wounds. If not for the faint breath and lingering magical energy, anyone would have mistaken him for a corpse—a particularly miserable one at that.

They picked up Phelps without a second thought—no one cared whether he lived or died. As Leon put it, Heavenly Mages were practically another species, far beyond ordinary mortals. As long as their heart wasn't destroyed and their head wasn't chopped off, they were almost impossible to kill.

They tossed the nearly-dead Phelps into the prison camp. The mages who'd been shouting just moments ago instantly fell silent...

If even a Heavenly Mage could be crippled like that—and they weren't even Sky Rank themselves—any more arrogance would surely get them killed...

The battle here ended quickly. The mages Phelps had brought barely arrived before they saw him defeated and captured. None of them dared approach Leon's camp—they fled back to the Burning Tower's encampment as fast as they could.

"What? Lord Phelps was captured? By Leon Merlin? Leon Merlin actually defeated Lord Phelps? Are you idiots joking with me?"

Listening to his subordinates' terrified reports, Dida La was both shocked and furious. At first he didn't believe it, but every mage told the same story, and Dida La had no choice but to accept it.

Damn it, could Leon Merlin really be this strong?

Even if Phelps had just broken through to Heavenly Mage, that's still a true Heavenly Mage. How did Leon do it?

He's actually reached this level of power...

Heavenly Mage...damn, that's a Heavenly Mage! Phelps had just broken through, but he was still the real deal. Given enough time, he'd only get stronger.

Anyone who can break through in a hellhole like the Blazeforge Battlefield wouldn't stop at First Rank. And now he's been captured.

The Burning Tower doesn't have that many Heavenly Mages to begin with, and now we've lost one—one with real talent, who might've become a pillar of the faction...

Dida La was both shocked and furious, but now he couldn't help but consider Leon as an equal. A Title Archmage had been captured, a Heavenly Mage had been captured—what else could he do?

Better negotiate quickly. If this keeps escalating, something truly catastrophic will happen. If it comes to all-out war, Phelps's head will be the first to roll as a warning...
