Smashing the Gate, Uncle Sean Brings Wolves Into the House
His own son's life or death was still unknown, and yet instead of thinking how to save him, the family that was supposed to be his son's last support was using this chance to wipe out his son's allies and drive them out of the clan. No one could accept such a thing.
William's father was shaking with rage, pointing at Sean Walker and cursing, "You want to drive us out of the Walker clan? What are you? What right do you have to say such things? Only the clan head can expel us from the Walker family. You're not the clan head now, and even if you were, if you can't produce the command token, you have no authority to drive us out."
No matter what, William's father was the previous Walker clan patriarch. Though he no longer held real power, he still commanded respect. His words immediately calmed William's supporters.
"Exactly! What are you, neither the eldest nor the legitimate heir? What right do you have to drive us out of the Walker clan? And you three—your posts were already stripped by the clan head, and he ordered you not to step foot in the Walker family ancestral estate. You dare defy the clan head’s orders and trespass here? If anyone should be expelled, it’s you!"
"That's right! Sean, you and your lot are the ones who should get out of the Walker clan. Someone—!" A white-haired elder, Eighth Grand-Uncle Walker, William's staunchest supporter, shouted with full force.
But the Walker family servants, who would normally respond at once, remained silent. Sean Walker burst out laughing: "Eighth Uncle, save your breath. Do you still think this is the ancestral estate where you could command the winds and rain? I've already arranged everything here—the whole main house is full of my people. Eighth Uncle, you'd best be smart and leave the Walker clan on your own, or I'll throw you out myself. You'll only disgrace yourselves then."
As soon as Sean Walker finished speaking, the surrounding servants closed in on William’s father and his group, faces fierce, just waiting for Sean’s order to strike.
"Disloyal and unfilial! You dare bring outsiders into the Walker family ancestral estate? How could the Walker clan have a descendant as unfilial as you? You think you can be clan head? Dream on! I’d die before letting the Walker clan fall into your hands!" Eighth Grand-Uncle Walker trembled all over, short of breath from anger and old age.
"Don’t be upset, Uncle. Believe in William—he’ll come back. That child cares more about the Walker clan than anything else." William’s father quickly stepped forward to comfort him.
"You’re right. William would never abandon us old bones." At the mention of William, Eighth Grand-Uncle Walker’s expression softened, and those behind him nodded firmly.
At this moment, those still standing with William showed that, even if it meant death, they would never accept Sean Walker's authority.
Even now, William still had a group of die-hard supporters in the Walker clan, which only fueled jealousy. Sean Walker’s face twisted, his eyes flashing with malice as he barked at the servants: "What are you waiting for? Throw these people out of the Walker clan! Don’t spare their families either. Since they’re Walker clan, those who don’t resist can pack their valuables; anyone who defies me, kill them all."
"Beast! You’d kill your own kin? Are you even human?"
Sean Walker’s words ignited the whole hall. William’s father and his supporters all denounced him, but Sean ignored them and kept ordering the servants to act.
If these servants were really Walker clan people, at least they wouldn’t use deadly force against their own kin—after all, they were relatives. But these servants were all outsiders borrowed from the Emperor by Sean Walker. They had no mercy for Walker clan members and, under imperial orders, the more chaos in the Walker clan, the better; only total disorder could bring the clan down.
Soon, the main hall of the Walker family descended into chaos. The servants violently drove people out, the Walker clan members resisted, and there was grappling and fighting—no weapons, but blood was still shed.
William’s father and Eighth Grand-Uncle Walker were shielded in the center by several younger men, so they weren’t hurt—just jostled and embarrassed. After all, this was still the Walker clan, and the Emperor’s men didn’t dare truly kill them; at most, they would leave the Walker loyalists severely injured.
"Aren’t you going to intervene?" Serena quietly whispered in Prince Nolan’s ear.
"I brought you to watch the show, not to play hero." Their voices were very low, and only during the fighting could they speak without being noticed by those below.
Serena nodded in understanding. Intervening in the Walker clan’s affairs would be unwise. "What about William? He still hasn’t come. Is he really going to let his parents be driven out of the Walker clan?"
"Don’t worry. As long as William is alive, even if they’re driven out today, they’ll be invited back with full honors later. Even with the Emperor’s backing, Sean Walker can’t hold the clan head’s seat—he has no legitimacy, and the rest of the Walker clan will never accept him."
The struggle for the Walker clan headship was no less fierce than a royal succession. If William were dead, that would be one thing; but as long as he lived, Sean Walker’s efforts were pointless.
"They’re taking such a risk—are they certain William is dead?" Serena glanced at William’s father, who was nearly pushed out the door.
"The poison they used on William is called Slumber. There’s no cure—victims look like they’re merely asleep, and no doctor can find the cause. On the third day, they die peacefully in their sleep, without pain." That’s why Sean Walker was growing bolder. William hadn’t appeared on the fourth day, so he must be dead.
"Then how did William survive?"
"Because Slumber was created by the Master of Mystic Healer Valley."
Bang—just as Prince Nolan finished speaking, the main gate of the Walker family ancestral estate rang out with a deafening crash. Instantly, everyone inside froze and turned to look at the entrance.
In this world, anyone who dared smash the Walker clan’s gate must have a death wish.
Bang! Bang!
This wasn’t knocking—it was smashing. William’s father and his group had their clothes torn and faces bruised. Now, wary and battered, they stared at the gate, then at Sean Walker in the main hall.
Eighth Grand-Uncle Walker, his white hair shining, pointed at Sean Walker with a heavy expression. "Monster, what have you done? Who have you brought into the Walker clan?"
None of the Walker clan recognized these servants; Eighth Grand-Uncle Walker was certain Sean Walker had brought in outsiders. Internal clan strife had now allowed outsiders to interfere—would they ever leave?
It’s easy to invite gods, but hard to send them away. Sean Walker had truly brought wolves into the house—once the Emperor planted these men in the Walker clan, he never intended for them to leave.
"It wasn’t me—I don’t know, I really don’t know!" Sean Walker panicked; this wasn’t part of his plan. The people smashing the gate weren’t his.
"If they’re not yours, then who are they?" William’s father and Eighth Grand-Uncle Walker exchanged glances, seeing grave concern in each other’s eyes.
The servants Sean Walker brought quickly formed ranks, ready to attack whoever was outside the gate.
Whoever was coming now was definitely an enemy, not a friend.
Prince Nolan and Serena exchanged a smile: at last, the real show was about to begin. All that time spent freezing in the cold wind hadn’t been in vain.
