Resurgence II

The Corpse Ancestor gazed at me, his face etched with confusion, yet unmistakable curiosity flickered in his eyes at my words.

"So there really is someone Tan Tian would trust? That’s the first I’ve ever heard of it. Those emotionless corpses—forget outsiders, even among themselves, there’s barely any trust at all."

I nodded, replying:

"Every physical being has its origin. What, then, is the origin of a zombie?"

"The Golden Soulstone!"

A sudden realization dawned on the Corpse Ancestor, and a slow, unsettling smile crept across his face.

"So that’s how it is. Tan Tian gave his Golden Soulstone to someone else, ensuring his immortality. With the Soulstone hidden outside his body, no matter how much force is used to destroy his physical form, he can’t be killed. The Soulstone within his body is just a clever decoy—meant to mislead anyone who tries to take him down."

I nodded again, my voice low:

"That’s why I believe Tan Tian must have entrusted his Golden Soulstone to someone he trusts beyond all doubt."

"Is it Loraine Locke?"

The Corpse Ancestor asked, but quickly shook his head, dismissing the thought.

"Luna Quay!"

Excitement broke across my face as I laughed and nodded. The Corpse Ancestor joined me, a rare smile curling on his lips.

"It’s been ages since anyone’s seen Luna Quay. No one knows where he is. But if we can find him, maybe everything will fall into place. All we need is to get rid of that troublesome zombie—then everything will be ours."

As the Corpse Ancestor spoke, his fists clenched tight. Black ghostly energy surged around him, swirling and thickening. His strength was returning, the connection to his seven souls steadily reawakening. With every moment, his power grew.

"If you return to the Yin-Yang World, don’t stir up trouble right away. Wait for the right moment. The best place to move unseen..."

"The Forest of Desire."

I nodded in agreement. The Corpse Ancestor understood well—eliminating obstacles required patience. All he needed was to wait, not rush the merging of his three souls. First, we’d locate Luna Quay. If we could take him out, we’d finally know whether Tan Tian’s Golden Soulstone was truly in Luna Quay’s possession.

"Why do you suspect Tan Tian’s Golden Soulstone is with Luna Quay?"

"Because Luna Quay’s emotions endured for thousands of years before finally fading away. He was Tan Tian’s disciple. Even after death, Tan Tian used special powers to transform him into a corpse. Over all those years, from what I know, they often moved together. Why do you think that is?"
