Vincent Wen still hadn’t figured out Evan Lin’s background.
Although yesterday at Sunwave Bluebay, he asked around and learned some things about Evan Lin from Owen Ou and the others.
He learned that Evan Lin was a country kid from a small county, his family was poor, and he used to be weak and bullied at school. Only recently did he start becoming strong.
Sisi Shao and the others basically revealed all of Evan Lin’s background to Vincent Wen.
Originally, Vincent Wen thought Evan Lin was an easy pushover and wouldn’t get in the way of his pursuit of Claire Sheng. But unexpectedly, Evan suddenly pulled out that card, flipping the situation on its head.
In the end, Simon Zuo lost all composure and was ordered by Evan Lin to be beaten in turn, leaving him utterly humiliated.
Now, seeing Evan Lin again, Vincent Wen’s eyes held a hint of caution.
He wasn’t stupid. Anyone who could command everyone at Sunwave Bluebay with a single card couldn’t be underestimated, no matter how cheap Evan Lin’s clothes looked.
“Excuse me, could you come with me for a bit?” Vincent Wen looked at Evan Lin, took a deep breath, and spoke slowly.
“Reason?” Evan Lin narrowed his eyes, then seemed to think of something and nodded: “I’ll go with you.”
Originally Vincent Wen was still thinking about how to bring Evan Lin over without offending him—after all, his family couldn’t compare with the Summers.
Hearing Evan Lin suddenly change his mind, Vincent Wen immediately breathed a sigh of relief and nodded: “Please, this way.”
Evan Lin and Rachel Liu were placed in the same car.
Once everyone was in, the car started up and quickly sped through River City’s streets toward the Zuo family compound.
Soon, the car stopped in front of the Zuo family villa and someone opened the door.
“We’re here. Master Zuo is waiting for everyone inside.”
Getting out of the car, Sisi Shao and the others looked at the villa ahead, feeling a sense of smallness.
The Zuo family’s villa was actually a small compound formed by joining together four surrounding villas.
From outside, you could see six standalone villas in a row, and in one corner, there was a hundred-square-meter dog yard fenced off with wire mesh.
Inside the dog yard were more than fifty vicious guard dogs, each over 1.6 meters tall when seated. Seeing Sisi Shao and the group, all the dogs pressed against the wire mesh, baring their teeth and staring coldly.
Even though the dogs didn’t bark, those icy stares made Sisi Shao and the others shiver uncontrollably.
“Go on in.”
Vincent Wen got out first and led the way.
Before long, they reached the main hall.
In the center of the villa’s main hall stood white funeral wreaths, with a coffin behind them and Simon Zuo’s black-and-white memorial portrait in front.
The moment Sisi Shao and the others entered, they were stunned by the sight, faces turning pale.
At the head seat sat Zuo He, eyes half-closed.
He was in his sixties, but looked vigorous and sharp—nothing like a frail old man.
Besides Zuo He, a few others were seated in the hall.
One was a middle-aged man in his forties, his features strongly resembling Simon Zuo, his face so dark it looked like it could drip water.
Another was a well-maintained woman in her forties, her skin delicate but her eyes red from crying.
As soon as she saw Sisi Shao and the others enter, her expression twisted and she shot to her feet, shrieking, “Did you kill my Simon?”
She screamed and charged over. Owen Ou was standing closest, and before he could react, she kicked him and slapped and clawed at him, leaving bloody scratches all over his face.
“Come back!”
After a few seconds, the middle-aged man spoke in a low voice, and only then did the woman reluctantly stop.
She returned to her seat, still pointing at the group, her eyes like a starving wolf, making everyone’s heart tremble.
“Master Zuo, I’ve brought everyone you asked for.”
Vincent Wen swallowed nervously, stepped forward, and forced a smile.
Sitting at the head, Zuo He finally opened his eyes and swept his razor-sharp gaze over everyone’s face.
“Bring those three up as well.”
Zuo He spoke coldly, and immediately someone brought three people in from outside.
One was Manager Zhang from Sunwave Bluebay. Right now, his whole body was swollen, and all his fingers had been cut off, leaving only two palms.
Manager Zhang’s clothes were completely shredded, and he looked half-dead, as if he could die any second.
The other two were girls.
Nina Pei gripped Claire Sheng’s hand tightly. Claire’s face was deathly pale, but Nina shielded her, so she was only badly frightened, not physically harmed.
“Now that everyone’s here, I’ll start asking questions.”
Zuo He’s gaze was icy as he swept over the crowd.
“Yesterday, you were all with Simon Zuo at Sunwave Bluebay. I want to know exactly what happened that day.”
“Now that Simon’s dead, we’re not in a good mood. I hope you’ll cooperate. Otherwise, those fifty-plus dogs outside haven’t eaten in a week.”
Zuo He’s voice was calm, but to the crowd it made their legs go weak.
None of them had ever seen such raw power before.
Evan Lin just glanced indifferently at Zuo He, then turned his attention to the man sitting quietly in the corner.
Drake Huang.
The man who’d traded blows with Evan Lin at the Jared Qian Auction before.
He was rumored to be River City’s strongest fighter.
Right now, Drake Huang sat with his eyes closed, clearly invited by the Zuo family to ‘sit in town’ as their powerhouse.
Last time they fought, Evan Lin’s strength was still immature. But now, he was just a step away from Foundation Establishment, and could fight Vajra-level experts head-on.
If they fought again now, Evan Lin was confident he could kill Drake Huang instantly.
Sensing a strange gaze, Drake Huang slowly opened his eyes and glanced over.
When Drake saw Evan Lin standing there, he frowned and let out a cold snort.
Back then, Drake Huang was still injured, which was why he only managed a draw with Evan Lin.
“Perfect timing. Today I’ll kill you, before you grow into a threat.”
Drake Huang spotted Evan Lin and muttered to himself.
He could tell this kid’s talent was monstrous—being able to fight him at just seventeen was beyond freakish.
For a moment, tension filled the air.
