Outrage, the Censor Impeaches Ninth Royal Uncle for Defiling His Niece-in-Law

That's right—it really was a miracle. Because aside from that, Serena Feng had no other explanation.

Her wounds had healed so fast, it couldn't possibly be just because Sun Zhengdao was a skilled physician. No matter how brilliant the doctor, wounds like that don't simply vanish overnight. The body's recovery takes time—those bloody gashes can't just disappear in a day or two. Even Sun Zhengdao, with all his talent, was still just a doctor.

God may shape fate, and doctors are God's hands—but even so, doctors aren't gods themselves. No matter how gifted, no one can make savage wounds heal perfectly in a single day, leaving not even a scar.

Simon Sun was just as curious as she was, both wanting to know what method Sun Zhengdao had used to save her. But Sun Zhengdao was nowhere to be seen, always too busy to show his face. Serena wasn't in a hurry—there would be time later. She never imagined that this parting would be forever.

If only—if only she'd known her true identity earlier, maybe this regret could've been avoided. No matter what, she would've stopped Sun Zhengdao. But the world doesn't run on 'if only.'

With no way to find out the truth, Serena decided not to let anyone else in on it. She instructed Simon Sun to tell everyone—William included—that she hadn't been injured yesterday, only poisoned, and that the antidote had already worked. Even if William Wang Jinling asked, that was the story.

Wounds can't heal in a day, but poison is different—once it's neutralized, you're fine. As for her healthy color, William and Dominic probably wouldn't think much of it.

Simon nodded repeatedly. Lying wasn't his strong suit, but when it came to obeying his teacher, he wouldn't hesitate to do anything for Sun Zhengdao's sake.

Since her body had recovered completely, Serena Feng could no longer afford to be lazy. Tomorrow was the day William Wang Jinling would formally become the Wang clan patriarch, and also the time for his departure to Clearwater Town. She needed to prepare the medicines he would need for his journey.

William Wang Jinling arrived almost right on time. As soon as Serena finished sorting and organizing all the medicines, Simon Sun announced that William and Dominic Zhai had come to see her.

Dominic picked up a bottle of pills, clearly skeptical that a single pill could let someone go all day without eating. But he also knew Serena Feng wouldn't lie to him about something like this.

Fine, he admitted—he was just jealous of William. Serena Feng had thought of everything for William, giving him all the good stuff.

Boo hoo... Serena Feng had never thought of him. He was always getting injured, but she never prepared any medicine for him.

“The world is full of strange things,” Serena Feng said, not understanding Dominic’s feelings and too lazy to explain.

These nutrition pills were specially made for soldiers fighting in the field—they could stave off hunger and replenish strength, but shouldn’t be eaten too often. They were, in a way, borrowing strength from the future.

She also warned William Wang Jinling not to use them unless absolutely necessary. Though they could temporarily sustain strength, one couldn’t rely on them forever. People needed real food.

Dominic had expected to argue, but instead he simply put the pills back and nodded hard. “True, the world is full of strange things. Even the famously abstinent Ninth Royal Uncle can be impeached by a censor for immorality with his niece-in-law. What can’t happen?”

Fine, if you won’t prepare medicine for me, I won’t let you have peace either. Dominic allowed himself a tiny bit of mischief.

“What? Ninth Royal Uncle was impeached by a censor for immorality with his niece-in-law?”

Serena Feng jumped up straight away.

“Why are you so worked up? It’s not like you’re the one being impeached.” Dominic Zhai’s eyes gleamed with mischief. Even William’s glare didn’t faze him; seeing Serena Feng so riled up was entertaining, and it soothed his own bruised ego a bit.

Serena Feng was annoyed. “How could I not react? If I’m not mistaken, that niece-in-law they’re talking about is me, right?”

She was asking, but her tone made it clear she already knew. Since birth, Ninth Royal Uncle had only ever provoked one woman—her—and had even admitted it openly. What made her most uncomfortable was that she used to be Prince Rowan’s fiancée.

William Wang Jinling stood up and pressed Serena Feng back into her seat. “Serena, don’t get agitated. Things aren’t as you imagine. Don’t listen to Dominic’s nonsense.”

“I didn’t say anything…”

Dominic hadn’t finished speaking before William shot him a fierce glare, making him shrink back obediently. He knew when to stop.

Serena Feng knew Dominic wasn’t lying or trying to trick her. No wonder William hadn’t smiled since arriving—she’d thought he was worried about clan affairs, but now she understood…

Serena exhaled, then smiled. “Don’t worry, William. I’m fine.”

Over the past year, she’d heard every kind of nasty rumor. The reason she’d reacted so strongly just now was because the impeachment had reached the Emperor—this could be a big deal.

If things went badly, she would almost certainly be drowned in a pig cage. “Adultery with a niece-in-law”—if this charge stuck, Ninth Royal Uncle would be ruined, despised by all, and she would have no way out but death.

If things went well, it’d be dismissed as baseless, and the censor would be the unlucky one.

Either way, someone would suffer for this.

“See? I told you Serena Feng was like an unkillable cockroach—tough as nails. Besides, you can hide things from her for a while, but not forever. She’s one of the main people involved; sooner or later she’d hear about it, especially since the focus is on Ninth Royal Uncle.” Dominic grinned, proud to have handled it better than William.

For once, he’d made a better decision than William.

“Exactly. This shouldn’t have been hidden from me. If I’d known earlier, I could have thought of countermeasures.” Serena’s affirmation made Dominic so happy he nearly jumped for joy.

William Wang Jinling ignored Dominic and looked at Serena with concern. “I just didn’t want you to hear such filthy things. It would have been better if I could have resolved it before you found out.”

If not for this issue, he would have come to the Sun Estate to see Serena much earlier, not waited until nearly noon.

“This concerns me—of course I’d hear about it. What exactly happened? Why would someone impeach Ninth Royal Uncle for adultery with a niece-in-law? There’s nothing between me and him.” If there really were, she’d accept the impeachment, but the truth was… her relationship with Ninth Royal Uncle was as pure as white paper.

Most importantly, the rumors about her and Ninth Royal Uncle had been circulating for ages. Why hadn’t anyone impeached them before? Why now?

“Who’s behind this, and what do they want?” Serena Feng was quick to react; she’d never believe this wasn’t orchestrated.

“We haven’t found out exactly. The people behind this are very secretive. It’s easy to imagine that even if the Emperor wasn’t directly involved, he must have approved it. Not sure about Prince Rowan, but Southern Lyn and Lyndaria are definitely the masterminds.”

Ninth Royal Uncle is powerful and unfathomable—people like that make not just the Emperor uneasy, but also Southern Lyn, Northlyn, and Lyndaria. I suspect all four kingdoms have joined forces to use this scandal to destroy Ninth Royal Uncle.

This impeachment is all about Ninth Royal Uncle; you’re just collateral damage. The censor has painted you as a helpless orphan, powerless against a mighty royal uncle, forced to become his plaything.” At the word “plaything,” William Wang Jinling visibly stiffened—he hated hearing Serena described that way.

Serena was grateful she hadn’t been drinking tea, or she really would have sprayed it everywhere.

Plaything? Given her looks and status, she did seem like a powerful man’s plaything. She used to think she was Ninth Royal Uncle’s toy—picked up when he was happy, tossed aside when he wasn’t. But hearing it from an official impeachment just made her want to laugh.

Plaything? As long as Serena Feng didn’t agree, not even the Emperor could treat her as one. In the past, seeing herself as Ninth Royal Uncle’s plaything was her own self-abasement—throwing herself at him.

But not anymore. No matter how much she liked someone—even Ninth Royal Uncle—she would never again wrong herself.
