Where the Soullights Return

"Let me help you, Ms. Frost."

I spoke, but Isabelle Frost immediately shook her head.

"I can handle it myself."

A sudden hiss—two jets of Styxwater shot out from the monster's nostrils above its mouth. Isabelle Frost dodged them effortlessly.

"Watch out."

I shouted. The two streams of Styxwater were mixed with the monster's own power. Isabelle Frost floated gracefully in the air, like a leaf caught in the wind, easily evading the monster-controlled water.

Now we can be certain: Emperor God and his followers must have tampered with this place long ago, using this engineered monster to divert the Styxwater directly toward the Underworld Court, which caused the Soul Cleansing Water to dry up. That’s why the Soul Cleansing Water that once flowed endlessly to the Bridge of Remorse has become so scarce.

When I first came to the Underworld Court, I noticed the Bridge of Remorse was different from my memory—only a shallow trickle of water remained. Later, I learned it was because the Soul Cleansing Water was dwindling. Now it seems the source of the Soul Cleansing Water was blocked by Emperor God's power. If we solve this problem, the Soul Cleansing Water should flow smoothly to the Bridge of Remorse again.

At that moment, the colorful mist swirling above the monster’s head suddenly pressed down toward Isabelle Frost. Within the mist, I saw flames, lightning, and frost—an array of powers erupted around her. But Isabelle Frost simply stood quietly in the center, raising one hand.

With a series of sharp cracks, the Styxwater lashes aimed at Isabelle Frost were deflected. I stared at her in surprise. Her crimson dress whipped violently in the wind—I could feel her anger.

The monster’s massive body began to rise, swooping down toward Isabelle Frost. But in an instant, its form started to turn to stone. I felt a surge of Ghost Aura pierce through the creature before I could even react.

The monster crumbled into giant stones, exploding apart. Isabelle Frost watched quietly as the stones hit the ground, then turned to dust, covering the earth with a blanket of Red Spider Lilies.

"Ms. Frost, are you sure it’s really okay?"

I asked in confusion. Isabelle Frost turned and replied.

"I simply let it experience the process of reaching the other shore. In the end, it returned to its final point—death."

Everything seemed to calm down. Then I saw the Red Spider Lilies darkening, and soon white mist began to rise from their petals. Isabelle Frost kept releasing her Ghost Aura, while I felt a surge of Hex Chains pouring into the ground.

Gradually, the blackness on the Red Spider Lilies faded, replaced by their original red. At that moment, I saw Soul Cleansing Water slowly trickling from the stone monster’s mouth.

"Is it over?"

"Ms. Frost, didn’t you see it just now? A monster hand attacked me."

I spoke, and Isabelle Frost looked at me in confusion. I shook my head, a buzzing in my mind warning me that things weren’t over yet—my Coexistence Instinct was sounding the alarm.

"Wait, Ms. Frost, maybe it’s not finished yet."

I stared quietly at the cliff ahead. A shadow flashed through my mind, as if something was lurking nearby. Gradually, I sensed it more clearly—I was definitely being haunted by something.

Isabelle Frost simply watched from the side. I kept searching with my Coexistence Instinct, and the feeling grew sharper—something was close, probing me from another space.

Suddenly, I felt a disturbance. This time, I hadn’t used the Corpse Barrier, and sure enough, a black hand yanked me into a pitch-black space. I raised Belle, watching strange shapes dart around me like monkeys. I couldn’t see their faces, but their white eyes and bodies radiated black energy—the power of darkness. I understood instantly.

"What do you want?"

I demanded sharply. Sure enough, a golden glow appeared in the darkness. Emperor God stepped forward, his expression grave.

"Come with us into the dark, Rachel Lan. If you want Ethan Zhang to return, we can help."

I laughed and shook my head.

"I will never work with you."

"Just do what you think is best, Ms. Frost!"

"It’s useless, Rachel Lan. If you keep using the Void Corpse Barrier, we can’t capture you. Now that you’re here, don’t even think about leaving."

Black hands gathered around me, closing in. Emperor God stepped right up to me, and I felt my body freeze. I smiled faintly.

"Too bad—you’re no match for me now."

I said confidently, raising Belle. Golden flames ignited across my skin.

"Instinct... Overturn!"

In an instant, golden flaming feathers streaked with blue lightning shot in all directions. In the blink of an eye, everything around me vanished. With Belle, I sliced off one of Emperor God’s arms—he stared at me in shock.

The space split open, strange screams echoed, and the monsters lurking nearby—trying to drag me into the darkness—were obliterated. My power exploded within me, stronger than ever after gaining Instinct Overturn.

"What exactly are these things?"

Emperor God stared at me in surprise. I smiled.

"Your father was defeated by this very instinct, Emperor God. Don’t even think about doing anything to this world."

As I spoke, a flash of red appeared. Isabelle Frost materialized at Emperor God’s side, placing a hand on his back.

"Get out. Don’t ever set foot here again."

The darkness gradually faded. Emperor God gave a cold laugh, glanced at Isabelle Frost, then at me, and instantly turned to ash, vanishing.

Now I saw the cliff outside, covered in red patterns—Red Spider Lilies sprouted directly from the rock. The sight was utterly surreal.

"It’s over, Rachel Lan."

Suddenly, I understood—Isabelle Frost had seen everything, but pretended otherwise, waiting for the right moment.

Streams of Soul Cleansing Water poured from the monster statue’s mouth. Isabelle Frost smiled faintly.

"Let’s go. We can head back now."

I nodded, sheathing Belle. The sword was quickly recovering, strengthened by my newly awakened instinct.

Isabelle Frost had set up a Ghost Array at the cliff—any disturbance, and she could appear instantly.

"Ms. Yi, are you sure it’s really okay?"

I turned back to check. Isabelle Frost smiled and nodded firmly.

The return journey was much shorter than before, which surprised me. In just half an hour, we reached the boulder marked with the sword character. Isabelle Frost looked truly happy.

With Soul Cleansing Water, we could continue purifying souls. Even without Meng Po Soup, we could strip away the consciousness of the dead and send them into the Forest of Desire. The Reincarnation Passage would soon be established.

Ahead, I could see the floating island, green lights swirling above as Green Wraiths busied themselves. Isabelle Frost led me to the broken Bridge of Sighs, raising her hand.

A rumbling echoed as sand and gravel were pushed aside. Soon, a pitch-black cave appeared—the source of Soul Cleansing Water. Isabelle Frost sat nearby, using her power to clear away the sediment. Several Green Wraiths descended, and Quentin Kue was among them.

"Miss Frost, is it resolved?"

Isabelle Frost nodded and told the Green Wraiths to build a channel connecting to the island. That way, Soul Cleansing Water could flow directly to the island, where the Reincarnation Passage was being established.

"Ms. Frost, are you sure it’s really okay?"

"Is there anything else I can help with?"

I asked. Isabelle Frost nodded.

"Come with me into Hell."

I nodded, and after Isabelle Frost gave a few more instructions, she led me away. It seemed everyone now followed her lead.

"If I can find a suitable successor, maybe I’ll choose to enter reincarnation too!"

Isabelle Frost spoke, and I nodded.

"After all, you’ve lived for so many years. Maybe a fresh start is the best choice for you."

As I spoke, I thought of the Ghost Sovereigns. Before me appeared a hellish landscape ablaze, guarded by Hell’s Registrars. Countless souls wailed in agony within the flames.

"What do you think I should do, Rachel Lan? Hell is still just taking shape. If we stick to the old ways, things might be easier."

"Just do what you think is best, Ms. Frost!"
