Gaining a Friend

1/4/2026

It's no surprise that she knows a few things.

If she couldn't even manage that, what business did she have being a vice president?

"Maybe even you don't believe it, but you look exactly like Max Mo's late fiancée, Nora Yun! Listen carefully—exactly alike! Not just similar!" Rona Muir grabbed her tablet and pulled up a photo of Nora Yun for Cecilia Gu to see.

Nora Yun was once the unrivaled campus goddess of M University. Her photos aren't hard to find.

To this day, her photo is still posted on M University's official website, because after her, none of the campus beauties have matched her level. Nora Yun was simply in a league of her own.

The moment Cecilia Gu saw Nora Yun's photo, she was so shocked she shot upright. "How is this possible? The resemblance is unreal!"

Cecilia Gu touched the photo on the tablet, zooming in again and again.

The more Cecilia Gu looked, the more unnerved she felt.

Exactly the same. Truly, exactly the same!

Cecilia Gu was stunned, at a loss for words.

"Even as a stranger, I'm shocked to this degree. So, tell me, what kind of expression do you think Max Mo had when he saw you?" Rona Muir reminded Cecilia Gu.

Cecilia Gu froze, her mind quickly replaying every moment she'd interacted with Max Mo.

That's right!

The first time she met Max Mo, his gaze really was strange, like he wanted to say something but held back!

Did he mistake her for Nora Yun?

Honestly, she's truly Cecilia Gu!

But... she really was adopted...

Could it be...?

Several thoughts flashed through Cecilia Gu's mind, but she quickly dismissed them.

Even though the Yun Family has scaled back and retreated to a small city, with hundreds of years of heritage, they'd never abandon a child!

So, she definitely has nothing to do with the Yun Family!

Cecilia Gu lowered her eyes. No matter what, her mother now is Jane Gu.

She didn't want a second mom!

Cecilia Gu handed the tablet back to Rona Muir, but she couldn't help being curious about Nora Yun and kept pestering Rona for more details.

To distract Cecilia Gu, Rona Muir really did start telling her the story of Max Mo and Nora Yun.

When Cecilia Gu heard that Max Mo had loved Nora Yun so deeply that even two years after her death he was still devoted, her impression of him changed instantly!

Cecilia Gu no longer minded that Max Mo always looked at her with such complicated eyes!

It's really hard to find such a devoted man in this world!

Especially since Max Mo is such an outstanding man himself!

Cecilia Gu even felt like the contract the Planning Department came up with was a bit unfair to him.

He really is so pitiful...

But now that Charles Yin has approved the plan, there's not much chance of changing it.

Thanks to Rona Muir's distraction, Cecilia Gu soon drifted off to sleep.

Two women sharing a bed—seems pretty normal...

Out of all these people, Cecilia Gu was probably the one who slept the best.

She slept soundly until morning.

The others... pretty much just lay awake until dawn!

After a good night's sleep, Cecilia Gu felt refreshed and pulled Rona Muir along as she headed back to Zone One.

As soon as they arrived, they saw Lydia Lin standing by the roadside, looking unsatisfied and waiting for her.

After battling all night, she still had the energy to wait by the road?

Was she showing off?

Maybe after hearing the moving love story between Max Mo and Nora Yun, Cecilia Gu's opinion of Lydia Lin and Charles Yin hit rock bottom.

Lydia Lin was a bit better.

After all, people tend to speak kindly when they're near the end.

Out of sympathy for Lydia Lin's cancer, Cecilia Gu decided to turn a blind eye to most of her actions.

But what about Charles Yin?

He so calmly accepted the arrangement she made for him, which just proved that all he felt for her was responsibility.

Realizing this, Cecilia Gu couldn't help feeling a wave of disappointment.

But since she'd already prepared herself mentally, it didn't hurt too much.

Still, when she heard Lydia Lin ask for her help yesterday, it really stung for a moment.

But by today, it seemed she could finally let it go.

From a distance, Lydia Lin spotted Cecilia Gu and Rona Muir arriving on a sightseeing cart. She rushed over and immediately demanded, "Cecilia Gu, what do you mean by this? You gave me the room card, so why are you clinging to Charles Yin and stopping him from coming back?"

Huh? What was Lydia Lin getting at?

So Charles Yin didn't go back to his room last night?

For some reason, hearing this made Cecilia Gu feel relieved.

"What nonsense are you talking?" Rona Muir jumped in to answer for Cecilia. "The two of us were together all night. Who are you trying to smear here? No matter how much you and Charles Yin loved each other before or how hard it is to let go now, Cecilia Gu is the real Yin Family Young Madam! For a mistress to so boldly ask the wife if she's clinging to her husband—I've got to hand it to you!"

Rona Muir's words were blunt and direct, like a slap in the face.

Even Lydia Lin, thick-skinned as she was, couldn't take it. She fired back at Rona, "And who are you? When did our business become yours to meddle in?"

"Aren't you an outsider too?" Rona's words cut even deeper. "Since when is being a mistress legal? If you've got the nerve, go find Charles Yin right now and get him to divorce Cecilia Gu and marry you! You just keep harping on your past with him—sold out Cecilia once, and now you want to do it again?"

No matter how calm Lydia Lin tried to be, she couldn't hold it in anymore.

Cecilia Gu was gentle and soft-spoken, and would never say such harsh things to Lydia Lin.

Even when Lydia Lin schemed to steal her first night and took everything from her, Cecilia Gu just left trembling with anger—instead of yelling at Lydia like Rona Muir did.

So, naturally, Lydia Lin thought Cecilia Gu was easy to bully—and everyone around her too!

But really, if Rona Muir were easy to bully, would she be Vice President of the company?

Rona Muir didn't get where she is on her looks—she made it with real skill and savvy!

Unable to win against Rona Muir, Lydia Lin could only play sick in front of Cecilia Gu.

Lydia Lin suddenly clutched her head and sat down on the ground. "Ah, my head hurts! Cici, my head hurts! Are you mad at me? That wasn't what I meant! I just... I just have one month left, and my wish still hasn't come true... The doctor says my tumor is growing faster and maybe I won't even have a month... Cici, for the sake of our friendship, please don't be mad at me, okay? You're my only friend in this life—I really don't want to lose you!"

Cecilia Gu had been angry at Lydia Lin's accusations, but hearing she might have less than a month left, she couldn't help but soften again.

"Alright, enough," Cecilia said softly. "If your head hurts, you should go to the hospital. Last night, after dinner, I went to Zone Two with Rona. As for where Charles Yin went or what he did, I have no idea. Lydia, for the sake of our past, I've already done all I can. If you say Charles still has feelings for you, then go fight for him yourself. There's nothing more I can do to help you."

After saying this, Cecilia Gu pulled Rona Muir away with her.

Rona Muir muttered angrily as they walked, "You're just too nice! So what if she's dying? Does that mean every ex who’s about to die gets to come back and steal someone’s husband?"

Hearing Rona Muir finally stand up for her, Cecilia Gu felt a wave of warmth in her heart.

When you lose one thing, you gain something else.

She and Lydia Lin could never go back to how things were.

But Rona Muir seemed to be a much better person than Lydia Lin ever was.

Rona Muir had seen her share of betrayal and manipulation. Watching Lydia Lin exploit Cecilia Gu, and Cecilia still defend Lydia like a pushover, Rona couldn't help but think Cecilia was a fool.

But having a friend like that? Honestly, it's the best!

She would never stab her friends in the back.

Even if someone wanted to hurt her, she'd probably just hand them the knife with a smile and ask, 'Is it sharp enough?'

Even Rona Muir, who usually looks down on everyone, had to admit that Cecilia Gu's foolish kindness touched the softest part of her heart.

It's easy to be kind for a moment, but to be kind your whole life is truly hard.

So, because of Lydia Lin, Rona Muir fully accepted Cecilia Gu and brought her into her own circle.

That's why, when Lydia Lin showed up earlier, Rona Muir was so sharp-tongued—she was sticking up for Cecilia.

Alex worked fast.

Alex stayed up all night, directing the company's tech team to hack a city government website. They posted graphic evidence of the deputy official's corruption and affairs on the homepage. Within hours, the whole country was buzzing on social media!

The official's scandalous video reached over a hundred million shares in just one hour!

Unsurprisingly, before the workday even started, the official was taken away for 'double investigation.'

Anyone familiar with the political world knows that once 'double investigation' starts, things rarely end well.

Max Mo received the news promptly.

Instinctively, he realized someone was targeting him!

But the opponent was so cunning, they didn't leave a single clue!

That official had a bad reputation and plenty of enemies, so it was hard to say who was behind it.

But anyone who can hack a government website and stir up a nationwide frenzy overnight is definitely no ordinary person!
