Outcome Marker Falls

A dazzling streak of golden light shimmered and flowed like water. I stared quietly at the black humanoid figure before me—he was still roaring in fury. A golden sphere enveloped the Deathbane Wraith, nullifying all the power he unleashed. This is the only thing I can do for now.

But only when my power exceeds that of the Deathbane Wraith. Right now, he’s still struggling violently, pounding against the golden sphere that traps him. His strength keeps growing. I should be able to hold him for a long time, but I’m unsure if the fragments of my memory on other islands are safe.

I want to take a look, but if I leave, channeling my power will become difficult. Once the distance grows, it’s extremely hard for me to maintain the transmission of power over such a range—especially since I have neither the Ghost Veins nor a physical body.

Now I’m beginning to feel anxious, a restless unease stirring in my heart—like something is writhing deep inside me.

I glanced back at Mother Goddess Nuwa, then brought the Deathbane Wraith with me.

"Can you help me restrain this thing for a moment? I want to check out the other places."

I asked, but Mother Goddess Nuwa shook her head.

"You must do this on your own."

I still don’t understand why the Law of Karma’s self-devouring was triggered, but at this moment, there’s nothing I can do. I could only slowly carry the Deathbane Wraith and begin to survey the city from above.

After a few minutes of quick observation, I found nothing wrong in the city. The places that had been consumed would never recover. When I arrived at the island where the Styx Gate once stood, I looked around—it was even vaster now, but the Styx Gate had vanished. I hovered over the white sand, scanning the surroundings. Many places were scenes of Hell I had witnessed before.

When the Styx Gate collapsed earlier, I didn’t see any trace of the Deathbane Wraith. I searched all around—many places were already damaged, and the Deathbane Wraith I brought with me grew even more violent. The golden sphere kept expanding, while inside, the Deathbane Wraith flailed wildly, pounding with his fists.

It felt like my power would soon fail to suppress him. I glanced back at the sky behind me—Eugenia and the others still hadn’t arrived.

I floated silently in the air, still searching for the shadow of the Deathbane Wraith. These fragments of memory are the foundation of all my recollections, and the basis for my remaining consciousness. If more than half are lost, it would surely affect my body—and even my power. That much is obvious.

A thunderous crash made me widen my eyes in shock—the sound came from another island, the one closest to here. Dust swirled up from the desert, as if something had suddenly collapsed.

There was also an ancient city there, marked with a plaque: Wraithhold. I wanted to go over, but suddenly I saw, in a distant ice-blue hell, a glacier beginning to shatter. I instantly teleported there and, sure enough, saw a Deathbane Wraith beneath the ice, mouth wide, devouring endlessly. Without hesitation, I dove down, my sword piercing through its body—yet unexpectedly, this Deathbane Wraith grabbed my hand and slammed me into the ground.

With a heavy thud, I felt my power thrown into chaos—the Deathbane Wraith I’d locked in the golden sphere had broken free. He let out a wild scream and, the moment he hit the ground, started running.

Eyes wide, I watched as the Deathbane Wraith gripping my hand was instantly reduced to ash by my power. I chased after the other one—at this point, restraining them no longer mattered. I eliminated him without hesitation, then shot up into the swirling desert sky. There, I saw another Deathbane Wraith smashing pillars inscribed with unreadable symbols. As I landed, the blowing sand made me lose his trail.

It wasn’t just Wraithhold—other islands where my memory fragments were stored erupted in chaos. I knew things were going wrong, but I couldn’t fight on so many fronts.

I could only act on proximity, so I rushed to the skies above Wraithhold and saw two Deathbane Wraiths devouring buildings in the city. I immediately flew down and dispatched both, then shot upward at full speed.

Arriving above the memory fragment of Universal Temple, I saw the monastery below had been utterly destroyed.

I stared quietly at the dozen or so Deathbane Wraiths that appeared, then instantly charged toward them. To my shock, these Deathbane Wraiths didn’t flee or dodge—they chose to fight me.

I gripped two swords—one white, one black—and swiftly cut down several Deathbane Wraiths. Yet they kept attacking madly. Chaos erupted across all the islands, more and more Deathbane Wraiths appearing. I couldn’t even tell where they came from.

After finally taking care of the dozen Deathbane Wraiths rampaging through the temple, I glanced around and flew toward an island covered in forest. In the woods, I saw dozens of dark figures, all destroying the forest. Now, my only option was to keep killing these Deathbane Wraiths.

Gradually, I realized it was taking more effort to cut down these Deathbane Wraiths—they seemed to know my attack patterns. If not for my speed, it would be much harder.

This sudden mutation left me at a loss. Island after island was being ravaged by Deathbane Wraiths. I kept moving, darting across the skies of hundreds of islands that held my memories. I’d lost count of how many Deathbane Wraiths I’d killed, but their numbers kept rising.

A dense swarm of Deathbane Wraiths, so thick they covered even the outer edges of the islands, gnawed desperately. Gradually, exhaustion washed over me. I glanced at my own body—sure enough, something was wrong.

Part of my body had already started turning into a phantom, and my power transmission was becoming severely disrupted. In the city, hundreds of Deathbane Wraiths surged toward me. I swung my sword relentlessly, cutting them down one after another, but their numbers only grew.

My power grew weaker and weaker—I was running myself ragged. Suddenly, a black Oblivion Chain bound my body. My sword vanished from my grip, and more chains wrapped around my arms and legs. Swarms of Deathbane Wraiths filled the city, and in an instant, the entire city was utterly destroyed.

Thunder echoed as the island began to crack and collapse, stones raining down. My strength faded further, and much of my body turned semi-transparent. I stared in terror at the Deathbane Wraiths still rampaging across the other islands.

"You bastards."

I gritted my teeth, watching as the Deathbane Wraiths dragged me upward into the air. Just then, a faint breeze brushed past my ear.

"Don't worry, I've brought help."

Eugenia’s voice swept by my ear. Instantly, the Oblivion Chains binding me shattered. With a whoosh, a blinding, violent red light descended—Blueflame Warden appeared. I also caught sight of the Basilisk, its mouth gaping as it sucked in the surrounding Deathbane Wraiths. As I looked up in astonishment, I saw a host of strange and varied beasts.

The sheer number of these beasts shocked me—many I didn’t even recognize. Aside from the Chimera, Nine-Tailed Fox, Hayden Orion, Jasper Luna, Chaos Fiend, and Eugenia, the rest were unknown to me.

A flood of beasts poured in from a gaping rift in space, their immense power bursting into multicolored beams that rained down on every island. Hundreds of massive beasts appeared instantly across the islands.

Before these mighty beasts, the Deathbane Wraiths became as insignificant as ants, quickly crushed by overwhelming force.

A faint blue breeze drifted past me, and I suddenly felt much clearer. I found myself sitting softly atop Zephyr’s body, with Eugenia landing beside me.

"You didn’t say how many helpers you needed, so I brought everyone I know."

I glanced back—more beasts kept pouring in through the rift in the sky. The whole space began to crack as even more beasts arrived.

Deathbane Wraiths kept appearing, but they could no longer cause any harm. I smiled and got to my feet.

"Thank you."

Gradually, the cracks faded away. Roars echoed all around, the sight utterly stunning—hundreds of upper-tier beasts completely occupied every island holding my memory fragments. Their power, like mine, couldn’t harm the memory fragments themselves, but they could hurt the Deathbane Wraiths.

Eventually, everything calmed down. The Deathbane Wraiths stopped appearing, and I finally breathed a sigh of relief.

"How did you get all these guys here?"

I looked at Eugenia in confusion. She flashed a radiant smile.

"I told them someone could make delicious food for them. Next, you’re going to be busy."

I shook my head and thanked her again.

"Then I’ll trouble you all to go find the ingredients."

Eugenia nodded happily. The surrounding beasts began to turn their attention to me—some shrank down and flew over. I couldn’t thank each of them individually, but I planned to cook a good meal for them all.
