It's Easier to Get Things Done with Connections, It's Even Easier When You're in Power
Power and influence—one of the most addictive things in human society. As the saying goes, "If you've got friends in high places, things get done." That's absolutely true. But if just "having someone" opens doors for you, what if you yourself are the one in power?
Ever since Jonathan started buying up experience potions all over the world to help people level up, Jill Young realized something profound: With power, it's like you've paid for the premium game pass—leveling up is just a matter of saying the word. Even Xiao Feng could only save Ah Zi after making nice with the local big shot to get his hands on all that wild ginseng.
Of course, this rule only works for ordinary experience potions—high in demand but nothing special. If we're talking legendary-grade experience potions, that's a whole different story. For example, in this world, when it comes to monsters, Mecha pilots on the front line get first dibs on the XP, not those clueless heads of state. That's why Jill Young always preferred the DIY route—take matters into her own hands and reap the rewards. It's not that power is useless, it's just too much hassle to wield, and honestly, she's too lazy to bother.
But now, thanks to a twist of fate, Jill's become Vice Chairman. If she doesn't make her minions run errands and show a little respect, she'd be letting herself down. Still, with great power comes great responsibility. Being the boss isn't all perks—it's a pain in the neck too.
"Your Majesty, oh Queen!" Someone from Engineering came running over, all smiles and flattery: "So, about the funding for our new anti-monster weapon..."
"Boss, look at me! Over here!" Another researcher dashed up, grinning shamelessly: "About the budget for the special twin pregnancy serum..."
"Back off, mine's more important!" Jacob shoved the two aside, his big face blooming like a flower: "Uh, the high-sensitivity monster monitoring network is costing a bit much, you see..."
To Jill, all these project leads scrambling for attention were like performers in a brothel, fighting to show off their "talents." Hand each one a handkerchief and they could cameo in a sitcom about Wei Xiaobao's mom's coworkers. These shameless, cutesy clowns had Jill so stressed she couldn't eat for three days—clingy as taffy, impossible to shake off, and utterly exhausting.
Finally, Jill came up with a solution.
"Alright, quiet down!" Jill barked, and everyone shut up. "Listen up—I've delegated the investment and budget stuff to Kost. All your requests go through Kost. He'll sort them out and report to me, and as long as it doesn't sound totally nuts, it's approved. Got it?"
That's right, her master plan: pass the buck, redirect the trouble, and make a clean getaway—classic hands-off management.
Official term: Pyramid Management Model.
"If you bug me again, I'll break your legs! Now get back to work!" Jill shooed away the swarm of flies, finally getting some peace. It’s been over ten days since Jill became Vice Chairman, and in that time, the Hunter Organization has gone through huge changes. Thanks to getting Level 4 monster data from Antarctica ahead of time, the monitoring network’s sensitivity shot up, and with the recon planes and spy satellites, they could actually keep track of things.
There's always a lull after a monster wave, and during that time, the Hunter Organization made all kinds of preparations for the next Level 4 monster. The Spear and the Retainer from the Five-Color Team were only lightly damaged and could still be saved, so everyone's working hard to fix them. Shield and Steed—the mechas that took on the Level 4 monster head-on—are a lost cause. Berserker? Forget it. It's trashed to the point of martial artists with snapped tendons.
Online, people started memorials for these three mechas—pictures with sad music, making it all pretty dramatic.
But that's not the main issue—the real problem is, when a Level 4 monster pops up, there aren't many mechas left that can take it on. Luckily, there's still a bunch of old models, and a dozen or so mechas were still able to gang up on the Bladehead and two other monsters. So for now, it's old mechas plus good old-fashioned military bombardment.
The new monster detection network really proved itself. On day fifteen, the moment a Level 4 monster showed up, they caught its trail. As soon as its head popped out of the sea, it was greeted by a hailstorm of missiles from every missile base around the globe. After a twenty-minute barrage, a dozen mechas piled on, rugby-style, burying it under a mountain of steel. One's choking its neck, another's got its arm, and these mechas—each weighing tens of thousands of tons—crushed this not-so-tough Level 4 monster like the Calabash Brothers squashing a demon.
Not long after, the Vice Chairman herself showed up with her sidekick, gave a pep talk to the frontline troops, checked in on the wounded, posed for a couple of photos for the press, and then slipped away to do the real work—extracting the Meat Pill from the Level 4 monster.
Level 4 monster Meat Pills are better quality than Level 3, and there are more of them. The Antarctic giant turtle gave twelve, the web-spitting monster gave ten, and with this one added in, Jill's storage space was starting to look like a Meat Pill surplus—she was stockpiling them.
Each Meat Pill is packed with pure energy, and after eating one, you need time to digest and train before you can take the next. When Jill was cultivating, every Meat Pill she ate sent a surge of vitality through her body, burning away impurities like a fire. Sometimes she could even hear tiny crackling sounds—that was her bones and tendons singing.
Level 4 Meat Pills are even better than Level 3, so the gap between doses is bigger—Jill could only eat one every three or four days. During this time, everyone swore Jill smelled strangely good, not like any perfume or spice, but something that made you feel refreshed just breathing it in—a sign her life force was overflowing.
Her hands-off management style didn't distract her—Jill spent most of her time training. After the Antarctic battle, she was even more motivated. Nobody knows what the future holds, but even if chaos reigns, as long as you've got world-shaking, indestructible power, you can handle anything.
So people would sometimes see Jill lugging an oxygen tank and lead weights, diving into the sea. Nobody knew what she was up to, just that she kept going farther and staying under longer. Every time she ditched the weights and surfaced, she was exhausted but always looked thrilled.
And so, Jill's stash of Meat Pills kept growing, and her Titan Spirit Method training kept advancing. If the poor guy practicing the bootleg version of some monk's method saw how fast Jill was progressing now, he'd probably climb a mountain, summon lightning, and beg to be her disciple.
One day.
Jill stood barefoot on the scale, glanced at her weight, then checked her height. Suddenly, she pinched her chin and mused, "I'm already twenty-six, and I'm still growing taller? Is this thing broken or is the Titan Spirit Method really that magical?" She turned to Teacher Yang, puzzled: "I don't see you getting any taller."
Teacher Yang paused his Insight Technique training, scanned her like a barcode reader, and said calmly, "You really did grow two centimeters. You’re about 1.73 meters now. I’m guessing it’s a special effect of the eighth level of the Titan Spirit Method. Once you finish that level, you’ll see the final results."
Makes sense—the Titan Spirit Method changes with every four levels. The first four just boost strength, but from the fifth, your skin and muscles get tougher, and you heal faster. The eighth level is the last of the middle four, so who knows what special effect it has? When Jill learned it, Golden Wheel never mentioned this, so his bootleg version probably doesn’t have it.
Not just Titan Spirit—Insight Technique shows the same trend. The first four levels sharpen your senses, making you quick and nimble. From the fifth, it starts boosting your brainpower—photographic memory, speed reading, all that good stuff. Wheel Pulse is now at the seventh chakra, so that lines up too.
But starting from the fifth level, Insight Technique's effects get more subtle—maybe not directly useful in a fight, but definitely a big help in the grand scheme of things.
"Oh, and by the way, your cup size went up a bit too."
"Drop dead!" Jill rolled her eyes, then got excited: "So if I hit the ninth level, maybe you’ll grow another five centimeters!" She slapped Teacher Yang on the shoulder, getting more convinced the more she thought about it.
Just as she was about to get back to training her Titan Spirit Method, a phone call interrupted her plans. Hardly any call could break Jill’s focus, but this one was different—it was about something she’d been watching closely. The custom mecha she’d ordered was finally finished! As the very first sixth-generation mecha, the caller begged the Vice Chairman to attend the rollout ceremony and give it a name.
