Successor

Before long, several top experts carried up the god's corpse. Divine might still lingered around it, but it was just a ruined remnant—broken, scattered, impossible to piece together.

The head of this god was still intact, the features still visible.

"It's the god I encountered—the one who claimed to come from above the sky."

The Imperial Preceptor glanced over and said, "His skills were extraordinary. I fought him, and only by risking my life could I drive him back. He crippled me in return."

The outcome of that battle was the complete ruin of the Imperial Preceptor, who, disheartened, had planned to retire with his wife by the Blood Lake. If Quinn hadn't found him, the Preceptor would likely have vanished from the world forever.

Quinn examined the head, pausing in surprise. Something about this god's face felt familiar to him.

The head looked as if it were carved from flawless jade. Even in death, not a single blemish could be found.

He appeared very young—his true age impossible to tell. Gods live as long as heaven and earth, so their real age rarely matches their looks.

"This god's head looks a bit like..."

Quinn's expression grew strange. This god resembled Victor Bloom!

It wasn’t that their faces were similar. Victor Bloom was also flawless, like a piece of jade perfectly carved by a master, exquisitely refined.

This severed head was so refined it didn’t look human at all—more like a work of jade-carving!

“This god who was blasted apart—could he be Lord Yu, the master Victor Bloom once mentioned?”

Quinn’s eyes widened. Victor Bloom’s master, Lord Yu, might really have been killed by Emperor Evan’s cannon!

“Lord Yu was the one who brought disaster to the Everpeace Empire. His death is deserved. I wonder what Victor Bloom will think when he finds out?”

Quinn thought for a moment but kept silent. He didn’t plan to reveal this; if Emperor Evan learned Lord Yu was Victor Bloom’s master, he would surely purge Victor to eliminate future trouble.

The emperor was never one to follow the rules of the martial world.

Quinn admired Victor Bloom and didn’t want to see him die like this.

Emperor Evan smiled, “Quinn, you put so much effort into forging the Solar-Shooting God Cannon. I haven’t rewarded you yet, so this god’s jade-like head is yours.”

“No, thank you!”

Emperor Evan’s face twitched. He grunted, feeling awkward. Quinn hurriedly smiled, “I didn’t do much in this god-slaying battle, Your Majesty. How could I accept such a trophy? Firing the cannon must have burned through a mountain of medicinal ores—let’s count this victory as a donation to the national treasury.”
