Girl Running in the Wind

"What are you doing!"

Daniel Ruan's face froze, then turned horrified and furious as he roared at Evan Lin, who was standing there.

The teenager he had always looked down on now had Tim Ruan's throat locked in a death grip.

Just a second ago, Tim Ruan was still acting all arrogant, but now his face was flushed red, twisted with lack of oxygen, not even able to make a sound!

The hand that had been gripping Lynn Chen's wrist instinctively let go at that moment.

Freed from Tim Ruan's grasp, Lynn Chen stared blankly at Evan Lin beside her, his face calm as ever, and a warm sense of being protected quietly bloomed inside her heart.

"Are you crazy? Let go of my son!"

Mrs. Ruan, always keeping up appearances, lost all composure and rushed at Evan Lin, clawing and shrieking. She'd barely taken a few steps when Lucy Lu, frowning and casual, stuck out her foot to block her.

Bang!

Mrs. Ruan was tripped by Lucy Lu and fell hard, crashing into the table loaded with desserts and drinks. Everything spilled onto her, leaving her looking utterly miserable in an instant.

Good, good, good! Well done, Charles Chen. Well done, kid! Daniel Ruan was so angry he laughed, immediately grabbing his phone and dialing a number, his face vicious. "None of you are leaving today!"

Since you don't want the respect I'm giving you, let's see how long you can keep being arrogant!

Daniel Ruan's face was full of grief and rage. With his only son ruined, the blow was too much—the Ruan family would have no heir!

Arrest them all! Murder! Sentence him to death! Mrs. Ruan clung to the unconscious Tim, shrieking hoarsely, her hair wild, looking like a madwoman—her earlier elegance gone.

Hearing this, Charles Chen realized things had gotten out of hand and wanted to mediate, but Daniel Ruan shoved him aside. Lucy Lu hurried over to Evan Lin, thrusting her car keys at him, face anxious: "Evan, can you drive? If you can, take the car and go hide somewhere. Once we've handled this, I'll tell you when it's safe to come back!"

Lynn Chen was badly frightened, frozen on the spot, unable to say a word.

She had never seen anything like this before. Tim Ruan on the ground looked like a lifeless worm, and his lower body was visibly caved in—even through his pants, anyone could see the brutal damage he'd suffered.

No need." Evan Lin shook his head.

Even if the police were called, it was unclear if they'd be able to take Evan Lin away. More importantly, Evan still had the Su family's favor in hand.

Victor Su's reputation in Jinnan was formidable—handling something like this would be no problem for him.

Oh, you don't need it, huh? We'll see how tough you are in a minute! You're dead! You're freaking dead!" Daniel Ruan practically shouted.

The onlookers found the scene utterly shocking.

Many shook their heads and sighed, wondering what fate awaited Charles Chen—chances were, he wouldn't be able to stay in Capitalview after this.

Daniel Ruan's arm shook as he held his phone. When the call connected, he shouted into it: "Chief Gary Chen? It's Daniel Ruan."

I'm at Triumph Manor right now—someone here tried to kill my son! Not only that, he beat up all the security guards. He's extremely dangerous; you should bring guns!

Daniel Ruan's words made everyone around him turn pale.

Charles Chen frowned deeply, while Lucy Lu anxiously stomped her feet, wishing she could push Evan Lin to leave right now. If the police really came, things would get ugly—Evan would suffer at the station.

Lynn Chen's expression was complicated. As if she'd made up her mind, she strode forward, grabbed Evan Lin's wrist, and dragged him toward the entrance.

Her pale blue dress billowed, black hair flying as Lynn Chen stepped in her white high heels, heels clicking against the floor.

Evan Lin was momentarily stunned, but followed as Lynn Chen dragged him toward the main doors.

A breeze swept past their ears.

Evan Lin glanced at Lynn Chen's profile as she gripped his hand—her beautiful face looked pale now.

Are you stupid? Still standing there—if you get caught, you won't be able to run!

Gritting her teeth, Lynn Chen ran ahead, shouting as she went: "You're always like this, always acting like nothing matters! What happened to make you this way?"

Evan Lin, you're not a god—aren't you afraid of dying? When you cause trouble, you have to run! How did you even survive till now? You've been making trouble since Brightsea! I'm done with you!

By the end, Lynn Chen was exasperated, but she kept pulling Evan Lin's wrist, running forward.

No need to run." Evan Lin said.

As soon as Evan Lin spoke, Lynn Chen whipped her head around and glared at him fiercely. "Shut up!"

If you don't run now, and the police show up with guns, you won't be able to escape! The world isn't as simple as you think, Evan Lin! No matter how tough you are, you can't beat the police or dodge bullets!

Lynn Chen's voice was hoarse, wind catching in her throat as she spoke.

"Chief Chen, you said you're almost here? Good! I'll be waiting!" Daniel Ruan hung up and shouted at the gate guards: "Close the door!"

"Close the doors! Don't let anyone out! If anyone tries to run, break their legs!"

The security guards at the gate stiffened, not daring to move, but Daniel Ruan's voice was so fierce that they hurried to shut the doors.

At the same time, the sound of police sirens blared from outside Triumph Manor.

A bunch of police cars rushed over, lights flashing, stopping right at the entrance. The officers leapt out, guns in hand, charging toward the main hall.

The onlookers all gasped, some even backing away in fear, while others pulled out their phones to record.

Lynn Chen was still dragging Evan Lin, running as fast as she could, her breath ragged, her voice breaking: "Hurry up! Stop spacing out!"

Evan Lin glanced at her, a faint smile playing at the corners of his mouth, but he didn't resist, letting her pull him along.

The girl in the blue dress was running wildly, her long hair flying and heels clacking, dragging a boy along as she sprinted for their lives.

In that moment, everyone watching was stunned—by her courage, by her stubbornness, by the wild, desperate beauty of a girl running for someone she cared about.

A girl running, flying, for the sake of someone she loved.
