Your Beggar

After he left, Grace hugged Evan Xiao's arm. "You're not angry anymore, are you?"

"Why bother chasing after me?" Evan Xiao asked, his gaze straight ahead. "Don't you think Byron White's status is something I'll never be able to match?"

Grace looked at him and said, "Maybe your status really can't compare to his.

But honestly, I've never even compared the two of you!

In my heart, even if you were a beggar, you'd still be my beggar!

No matter how high and mighty he is, it has nothing to do with me!

Evan Xiao glanced at her. "Your beggar?"

Grace: "I was just giving an example."

Evan Xiao's lips curled up slightly. "What did you just call me?"

Grace suddenly felt a little embarrassed. She rolled her eyes and asked, "What did I call you? Didn't I just say your name?"

Evan Xiao lifted her chin. "Say it again."

"Evan Xiao?"

"Call me husband."

Grace blinked her big eyes. "...Husband~~"

Evan Xiao was electrified by her voice and those sparkling, clear eyes. He barely resisted the urge to hug and kiss her, and managed to say sternly, "I know you're just putting on a show for him. But I'm a man, and I can't stand seeing you like that."

Grace bit her lip and said, "If it weren't for getting into the Celestial Library, I wouldn't have... I'm just afraid if I offend him, he'll sabotage me during the Spirit Alliance exam."

Evan Xiao frowned.

"Evan Xiao~" Grace shook his arm. "Trust me! I won't let him take advantage of me, not even a little! Besides, he doesn't really like me, and I doubt he even wants to. He just wants to ruin us."

Evan Xiao wrapped his arms around her and pulled her into his embrace, saying nothing.

Just like that, everything was fine again.

Grace snuggled up to him happily and asked, "Where's Cutie Pie?"

"He didn't come out with us."

"For some reason, he's upset again!" Grace sighed. "Tell me, how can a little snake have so many worries?"

Evan Xiao said nothing.

"Can you help me talk to him when we get back?" Grace asked.

"Okay."

......

Grace had no idea how Byron White explained things to his fiancée.

Anyway, when he returned to the Spirit Alliance, he was back to his usual self.

He asked Grace, "Why didn't you wait for me and left on your own?"

Grace replied, "I saw my fiancé."

Byron White's eyes flickered. "Oh? Your fiancé? Who is he?"

"He's Evan Xiao, the Grand General of the Vermilion Bird Nation," Grace said. "He came with our emperor to celebrate the birthday."

"Did you go back to the city with him?" Byron looked displeased.

"Yes." Grace glanced at Byron and said, "I've already told him."

"Told him what?"

"I told him... that I want to break off the engagement." Grace said.

Byron's eyes lit up. "Oh? You actually told him?"

It seemed his efforts over the past month hadn't been in vain!

"But..." Grace continued, "He refused!"

"What?" Byron was stunned.

"My fiancé loves me very much. I can't bear to hurt him. As for you and me... let's forget it..." Grace looked genuinely guilty. "Alliance Leader, I'm sorry!"

"Grace!" Byron grabbed her hand. "So you're willing to see me heartbroken?"

"I don't want to see you hurt either... But I was engaged to him first..."

"Grace, without you... my life has no meaning at all!" Byron's words sent shivers down Grace's spine. "You can't give me hope and then cruelly snuff it out!"
