Another Slap in the Face

The Free Alliance member who had sneaked into the city was discovered by the Blue Clan, but what surprised him even more was that the Blues simply asked one question and left, not caring about him at all. It left him feeling uneasy, unsure what the Blues were up to.

Evan Yang was curious and locked his divine sense onto them, from the first person to the second. The Blue Clan Patriarch identified the second person and asked, "Are you from the Demon Sect?"

"How did you know?" The man looked warily at the four in front of him, feeling unprecedented pressure.

But unexpectedly, the Blue Clan Patriarch just snorted coldly and quickly left with his three companions, leaving even the Demon Sect member confused about how they discovered him and why they just snorted and moved on without any follow-up.

Evan saw and heard all of this, but had no idea what the Blue Clan was planning. The same scene kept repeating—sometimes it was the Free Alliance, sometimes the Demon Sect, or sometimes some powerful rogue cultivators.

After the eighth person, the Blue Clan Patriarch impatiently cursed, "Why isn't it him!"

"Him? Are you talking about me?" Evan wondered aloud.

Furious, the Blue Clan Patriarch led his three companions back to the castle.

"Did you catch him?" Benson Blue asked curiously when he saw the Blue Clan Patriarch and the others return.

"No." The Blue Clan Patriarch replied, his face dark.

"No? Could the array have malfunctioned?" Benson Blue asked suspiciously.

"It's not the array. They're definitely all Spirit‑Wandering experts, but none of them are that beggar." The Blue Clan Patriarch really couldn't figure out what was wrong. All eight were Spirit‑Wandering experts, but Evan Yang wasn't among them.

"That's strange. Let me check again." Still inside the array, Benson Blue kept focusing on the images within it and then sent them to the Blue Clan Patriarch.

The Blue Clan Patriarch still saw the same eight dots—only their positions were shifting.

"Strange, what method did he use? Even the array can't find him." Benson Blue wondered aloud.

"Could he have used some kind of treasure or shielded his aura?" The Blue Clan Patriarch mused after a moment's thought.

"Shielded his aura? If that's really the case, it would definitely affect the array." Benson Blue said, his expression strange.

"What do we do now?" Seeing that even the array couldn't find Evan Yang, possibly because he'd shielded his aura, the Blue Clan Patriarch grew anxious.

"If even this method doesn't work, we'll have to scan the entire city." Benson Blue said, sounding exhausted as he exited the array. The other five also looked worn out.

The Blue Clan Patriarch said, "The whole city... Looks like that's our only option."

Just as the Blue Clan Patriarch and the others were about to scan everyone in the city with their divine sense, the Guard Captain rushed up and said, "He wants us to immediately bring three people to a spot by the city gate, or else the three young masters will..."

"So fast!" The Blue Clan Patriarch hadn't expected Evan Yang to act so quickly and change his plan.

"Looks like he's still in the city. He must have used some treasure to avoid our array. Here's what we'll do: you take those three people to the spot outside the city he mentioned, and I'll hide with the others near the gate." Benson Blue suggested from the side.

The Guard Captain pointed at himself—he was supposed to lead them? He wasn't too confident; surely a Spirit‑Wandering expert should go. If something happened, he couldn't bear the responsibility.

After considering Benson Blue's words, the Blue Clan Patriarch said, "Let's do it. Those three are badly injured and won't be able to fight you. Take them outside the city and follow his instructions."

Seeing the Blue Clan Patriarch give the order, the Guard Captain had no choice but to carry it out.

The Blue Clan Patriarch and the others stayed behind to discuss how to assign the people in the city.

Meanwhile, Evan Yang wasn't idle either. He called Ray Budin and had him set up an array outside the city as instructed.

Teleportation array—this was Evan Yang's go-to method. He knew the Blue Clan had suddenly checked eight people, so something was definitely up. To avoid trouble, he decided to act immediately, and the action would take place outside the city.

Unaware that Evan Yang was freely moving about in an inn, the Blue Clan continued to plan how to strike him with full force.

The Blue Clan Guard Captain began to lead his men out of the city as instructed by Evan Yang.

"Let’s hope nothing goes wrong," the Guard Captain muttered to himself, feeling several Spirit‑Wandering experts’ divine sense locked onto him at all times—mostly from the Blue Clan, with one or two from unknown sources.

Evan Yang watched from not far outside, and when the Guard Captain was about to leave the city, Evan flashed into the inn and exited through the formation.

Arriving outside the city, Evan secretly chuckled, "Blue Clan, here’s another slap in the face for you."

The Blue Clan, thinking Evan was still inside, had stationed people to monitor the city gates. But even after the Guard Captain left, they hadn’t spotted Evan’s trail, making them uneasy.

"Evan Yang, I’ve brought the people! It’s time for you to hand over yours," the Guard Captain shouted into the air, drawing curious looks from city residents—wondering why the Blue Clan Guard Captain was out here yelling at the sky.

But the surroundings were quiet—there wasn’t a single trace of anyone.

The three heavily wounded Wyatt Wolf and his companions lay on the ground, exchanging helpless glances.

Just then, a voice reached their ears: "In a moment, I’ll appear before you. Relax—I’ll get you out of here."

The three had originally planned to end their own lives rather than burden Evan Yang, but hearing this voice, their spirits lifted.

Inside the city, two people kept their divine sense locked on Wyatt Wolf and his companions.

"Let them handle things inside the city. We’ll keep watch outside in case anyone tries to rescue them," the Blue Clan Patriarch said, worried that someone outside would intervene.

"Mm." Benson Blue agreed, locking his divine sense onto Wyatt Wolf. If anything happened outside, they could arrive in half a breath.

"One, two, three—go." Evan Yang transmitted to the three.

The three wondered what Evan meant, when suddenly a figure appeared before them. As soon as they realized, they vanished from the Guard Captain’s sight.

"Not good!" Seeing Evan Yang suddenly appear in front of the Guard Captain without warning, Benson Blue shouted.

The Blue Clan Patriarch noticed too, and the two rushed out, but Evan Yang was already gone. In front of the Guard Captain, Wyatt Wolf and his companions had disappeared—replaced by three other young men.

A commanding, mocking voice echoed overhead: "Blue Clan, you thought you could catch me like this? Ridiculous. I’m taking these three, and returning your three juniors—don’t say I’m not fair."

Three for three—seems fair to outsiders, but the Blue Clan members looked utterly grim.

"What was that just now?" Benson Blue hadn’t seen the Firebird before, nor how Evan took the three away, and was furious.

"Damn it, last time that bird rescued him!" The Blue Clan Patriarch remembered hitting Evan’s clone before, only for a transparent bird to whisk him away, and cursed in anger.

"Is there really nothing we can do about him?" Benson Blue watched Evan Yang fly away—his speed was simply impossible to match.

"Unless that one comes out, we really have no way to deal with him." The Blue Clan Patriarch was dizzy from Evan’s tricks—years ago Evan was weak and even then couldn’t be caught; now, at the Spirit‑Wandering Realm, the Patriarch could clearly sense Evan’s terrifying aura.

As the two spoke, the three young men lying there slowly woke from unconsciousness.

"Patriarch, the three young masters are awake," the Guard Captain reported.

The Blue Clan Patriarch looked at them, snorted coldly, and said, "From now on, you three stay in the castle. Don’t go anywhere." Then he left with Benson Blue and the others, returning to the castle.

"What’s going on?" The three had barely come to before the Patriarch scolded them.

The Guard Captain helplessly led the three young masters away, explaining what had happened along the way.

After hearing the story, the three could hardly believe it—Evan Yang was already so powerful, and in front of everyone, had slapped the Blue Clan in the face yet again.

So the three quietly resolved: unless Evan Yang is caught, they’ll never leave the castle again.

Inside the castle, the Blue Clan Patriarch and Benson Blue were left speechless—furious but with no one to vent to. Earlier, with so many outsiders watching, they had to endure.

"Damn it! Too damn infuriating!" The Blue Clan Patriarch paced angrily.

"Just who is this kid, what’s his background?" The more Benson Blue learned about Evan Yang, the less he could figure him out—he seemed like a genius who’d come out of nowhere.

"I don’t know either. When he first appeared in the Central Province–Eastern Continent conflict, I thought he was no ordinary person. And now, not even a hundred years later, he’s reached Spirit‑Wandering—scarier than even our Supreme Ancestor." The Blue Clan Patriarch couldn’t believe Evan was already at the Spirit‑Wandering Realm, but after what just happened, he had no choice.

"Too bad the Supreme Ancestor can’t leave, or Evan wouldn’t have escaped so easily." Benson Blue was out of options, especially with Evan’s mysterious bird.

"Talking about it now won’t help. If we don’t stop him, who knows how far he’ll go in a few more years." Every time the Blue Clan Patriarch saw Evan Yang, he’d changed dramatically—he couldn’t imagine what would happen if this continued.

"The Free Alliance is out of reach now—they’re on high alert. Are there any others who still have close ties to him?" Benson Blue was anxious to catch Evan Yang before he could grow further.

"Anyone? I’ve investigated—he lost both parents, and his old sect, Rising Sun Sect, has been dissolved." The Blue Clan Patriarch had looked into Evan Yang’s background in detail.

"Is there really no other way to draw him out?" Benson Blue frowned.

"Patriarch, someone from Sky Unity Sect has come to see you," the Guard Captain reported.

"Sky Unity Sect?" The Blue Clan Patriarch asked curiously.

"No idea," the Guard Captain shook his head.

After thinking for a moment, the Blue Clan Patriarch said to Benson Blue and the others, "Wait here for me. I’ll be back soon."

He then followed the Guard Captain to the castle’s reception hall.

There, he saw many people: the three Blue Clan heirs, and a Sky Unity Sect envoy—Caleb Pale, the alchemy prodigy who once lost to Evan Yang. Why was he here, and what business did he have with the Blue Clan Patriarch?
