Irreconcilable as Water and Fire (12)

Duanmu Ye held Murong Yan in his arms, standing off to the side, refusing to look at Qin Xueyao's fate. Instead, his concern was for Murong Yan, who still hadn't awakened after so long. Duanmu Li had tried several times to intervene, but each time, Duanmu Xun held him back, leaving only despair in his eyes. Liu Feng, the patriarch of one of the three great clans, was so cruel that Duanmu Li couldn't help but wonder—was the Righteous Path truly righteous?

Jing Mohen stood with a lazy posture, treating Gu Yihan like a pillar, half his weight resting on him. He lifted his eyes languidly to watch the scene, letting out a deliberately soft sigh. "It seems the Righteous Path excels at tormenting others. We still have a lot to learn!" His words held a trace of mockery.

Liu Feng could easily have ended things swiftly, yet he insisted on drawing out the torment. How different are these methods from those of the Evil Path?

Suddenly, Gu Yihan reached out and pulled him close, prompting Jing Mohen to turn and glance at him. Understanding flickered in Jing Mohen's eyes, and he smiled softly, whispering, "I'm fine."

Jing Mohen had always disliked those of the Righteous Path, and the biggest reason was Gu Yin. As the master of Medicine Immortal Valley, Gu Yin was the very definition of a hypocrite. After so many years in Medicine Immortal Valley, seeing so much cruelty, Jing Mohen found it impossible to feel any goodwill toward the Righteous Path.

Still, it wasn't all bad—there were some he could tolerate, like Duanmu Ye. Though Duanmu Ye had once been part of the Righteous Path, Jing Mohen never found him disagreeable. Smiling to himself, he realized he'd always seen the potential for Duanmu Ye to turn toward the Evil Path.

Gu Yihan looked at him and sighed, his arm suddenly tightening. Jing Mohen quickly pressed a hand to Gu Yihan's chest and smiled, teasing, "I don't mind you throwing yourself at me, but could you be a bit more mindful of the occasion? Think about your status right now!"

Gu Yihan replied coolly, "The Ghost Sect has never had a good reputation." Yet even as he said this, he let go of Jing Mohen.

Jing Mohen curled his lips, choosing not to argue, and continued watching the bloody spectacle unfold.

Qin Yan had already closed his eyes, unwilling to witness any more, but the agonized screams ringing in his ears made tears fall. It was all his fault—why should Yao'er have to endure such suffering?

Gong Jueshang had been watching Shangguan Mo closely. Suddenly, seeing something was wrong, he hurried over as the human wall automatically formed again. "Mo'er, what's wrong?"

Shangguan Mo furrowed her brows, cold sweat beading on her forehead, and said softly, "My stomach hurts."

"Stomach hurts?" Gong Jueshang quickly swept her into his arms, checking her over but finding nothing wrong. He wanted Gu Yihan to take a look, but Shangguan Mo grabbed his hand.

"Mo'er..." Worry filled Gong Jueshang's eyes. The two little ones in her belly were different from ordinary children, and her condition was unlike that of any normal pregnant woman. These unpredictable incidents left him helpless and anxious, but Shangguan Mo herself seemed unfazed.

Shangguan Mo shook her head and said, "It's nothing, the babies' powers just became unstable for a moment. I'll be fine after a rest."

Gong Jueshang frowned, knowing medicine couldn't fix this. All he could do was hold her, kiss her forehead tenderly, and gently channel his inner energy into her body, replenishing what she'd spent suppressing the unstable powers. He silently resolved not to let her overexert herself again—maybe it was exhaustion that caused this!

The surroundings were silent, save for the increasingly hoarse screams. When the screaming finally stopped, Shangguan Mo felt much better.

Emerging from the human wall, Shangguan Mo glanced at the battered Qin Xueyao and couldn't help but twitch her lips. She hadn't expected Liu Feng to be so ruthless—Qin Xueyao had been reduced to a mere stick!

Shangguan Mo turned away, frowning as she wondered if exposing the babies to so much bloodshed was wise. What if they became bloodthirsty in the future? Though she didn't believe in excessive kindness, she certainly didn't want to raise monsters!

Lost in thought, the white silk in her hand suddenly lashed out at Qin Yan, stretched taut and whistling through the air like a venomous snake, swiftly darting toward him.

Qin Yan felt the wave of killing intent coming straight at him, so real it was almost tangible. Terror seized him, but he could only stare wide-eyed as the white silk raced toward his face. Maybe it would be better if Shangguan Mo simply killed him!

Everyone wondered what Qin Yan would look like after Shangguan Mo's attack, but the white silk suddenly stopped in front of him, then drooped limply.

Lord Ghostmaster twisted the white silk in one hand, locking eyes with the Cloud Guildmaster. The two pulled the silk taut, neither giving way. Whatever its material, it remained undamaged despite their inner power!

In truth, Gong Jueshang hadn't used much power, nor had Shangguan Mo. She'd just been unwell, so how could Gong Jueshang dare to compete with her? He intervened because he knew Shangguan Mo didn't intend to kill Qin Yan outright. That would take too much time, and now he just wanted to take her home to rest!

Shangguan Mo narrowed her eyes dangerously and said, "Lord Ghostmaster, what is the meaning of this?"

Gong Jueshang replied coolly, "Doesn't the Guildmaster know what I mean?"

Shangguan Mo kept her eyes narrowed at him, sighing inwardly. It seemed this was as far as things could go. What a pity—after all this commotion, there was nothing gained. Still, the fifteenth of September should be much more exciting. She wondered if the person lurking in the shadows would keep hiding then.

Shangguan Mo was the first to let go, and Gong Jueshang released his grip as well.

Slowly putting away the white silk, Shangguan Mo looked at Qin Yan and smiled lightly. "Fortress Lord Qin, the game has only just begun!" She didn't want him to die so easily—she'd play with him for a while longer!

Seeing she hadn't fought Lord Ghostmaster, the crowd was puzzled, unable to figure out what this was about. They couldn't help but marvel at how inscrutable both Lord Ghostmaster and the Cloud Guildmaster were—just guessing their intentions was exhausting!
