Blood in the Moonlit Forest

1/11/2026

Grinning wide, eyes bulging, he clenched the Cloudwalker Staff and tore through the forest at breakneck speed.

A cold wind whipped past his ears, raising the fur along his body and revealing the veins tangled beneath his muscles.

His heart hammered wildly, blood boiling and rushing to his brain. Under the moonlight, everything before his eyes seemed layered with illusions, swaying and shimmering.

The beast within him roared.

As he raced forward, wind in his face, the Monkey King laughed wildly, his manic emotions twisting his features into a savage mask.

“Hahaha, I am a demon! Want to catch me? Come on—!” he howled hysterically at the heavens and earth, his eyes bloodshot. “Whoever dares covet me, will die—every last one!”

......

"He's gone mad... heh heh heh."

Anna Yang clutched her arm, weakly landing on a distant hillside, watching everything unfold with wide eyes.

She had hoped this exceptionally gifted Monkey King would help her take revenge—even if it only meant making those gods in the Heavenly Court tremble with fear.

But in this moment, she suddenly realized she might have been wrong.

Beneath the Monkey King's cold exterior, a demon lurked at all times—once unleashed, utterly uncontrollable.

Maybe she was playing with fire all along.

What the Monkey King had endured destined him to become someone even more dangerous than her brother.

Because he had nothing to hold him back.

But if that was the case, why did Master Sage Subhuti accept him as a disciple?

Why did Skylar Loft send him to the Heavenly Court’s prison?

What kind of scheme was Crescent Star Cave plotting with the Monkey King at its center?

Anna Yang didn’t know. She only knew that the greater the risk, the greater the reward.

For Master Sage Subhuti to risk defying the Heavenly Court, what secret did the Monkey King carry within him?

Thinking this, she collapsed to the ground, a bitter smile on her lips. "One step at a time..."

Perhaps, just as Jade Cauldron said, hatred had blinded her. For a thousand years, she had struggled ceaselessly, yet held onto nothing—not even the Monkey King.

......

A Skyward Legionnaire dropped his torch, drew the long blade at his waist, and charged straight at the Monkey King. Roaring, the Monkey King leapt to meet him, swinging his staff.

Their figures crossed—he dodged the blade, snarling, and smashed the Legionnaire’s head with a single blow. Blood sprayed like crimson blossoms in the air, falling in fine rain that dyed the Monkey King red from head to toe.

This scene left Sister May, who was pursuing from behind, momentarily stunned.

Another thread of ethereal light seeped into his heart.

As he landed, he glanced back at Sister May, a deep smile in his eyes. That look alone made Sister May halt in her tracks.

"Master, what’s wrong?"

"Don’t pursue him." she sighed softly.

"Master, why aren’t we going after him? He killed Senior Brother!"

"He’s nothing like us." She slowly shook her head, lifting her gaze to the sky filled with Skyward Legionnaires chasing after the Monkey King. She sighed softly, "Let them handle it. We... are no match for him."

There was a helplessness in her eyes.

Yes, they were completely different.

They were merely passing travelers on the long road of cultivation, but he was a soul fighting desperately in the depths of despair.

They came from entirely different worlds.

Watching Sister May and her group retreat, the Monkey King dashed forward, charging at three Skyward Legionnaires who were now within arm’s reach.

An arrow grazed the Monkey King’s cheek, leaving a vivid crimson mark—he didn’t even blink.

Sidestepping the first Legionnaire’s thrusting spear, he roared, driving the Cloudwalker Staff straight through the Legionnaire’s armor and heart.

Such power...

Seeing this, the second Skyward Legionnaire, brandishing his long blade, was already half-stunned.

Before he could react, Simon Stone brushed past him, the blood-soaked Cloudwalker Staff smashing into the back of his helmet, shattering bone and steel alike.

The last Legionnaire panicked, fumbling to pull an arrow from his quiver.

Before he could notch it to his bow, Simon Stone tackled him to the ground. With a heavy elbow strike, his mask caved in, and the eye slit gushed blood.

The Legionnaire fell silent in an instant.

In the blink of an eye, three Legionnaires were dead. Three threads of ethereal light seeped into his heart.

Slowly, he rose to his feet and looked back.

A Heavenly General, leading more than ten Legionnaires from behind, suddenly froze in shock.

It was unorthodox, yet ruthlessly effective.

Simon Stone was cornered, yet in those eyes, there was no fear—only pure bloodlust.

Even among the most savage demons, no one had ever seen eyes like those.

The sight made him shudder, tightening his grip on his sword.

A provocative grin twisted his savage face. Clutching the Cloudwalker Staff, Simon Stone darted into the forest right under the noses of the Legionnaires and their general.

"What is he trying to do?" the Heavenly General muttered to himself.

Those eyes were not what a fleeing demon should have.

A Legionnaire landed next to the three corpses.

"All three are dead."

The leading Heavenly General stared at the pitch-black forest and swallowed hard.

"Should we pursue him?" A question arose in his heart that shouldn’t have.

More than ten Legionnaires silently watched their leader, who stared into the dense woods, hesitating.

Did they really have to search for Simon Stone in the depths of this forest?

"What are you all waiting for?" A furious roar sounded from behind. Another Heavenly General arrived with twenty Legionnaires, casting a contemptuous glance at the hesitant general ahead. He drew his sword and waved: "Advance!"

With twenty Legionnaires spreading out in formation, this Heavenly General—at the Spirit Refinement stage—stepped into the forest.

The original general, however, still hovered in place.

"General, aren’t we... going in?"

The Heavenly General panted heavily, gripping his sword, but still couldn’t make up his mind.

By now, screams from the Legionnaires were already echoing out of the forest.
