Clashing Over the Fire

2/14/2026

The Fenn Family’s second generation gets along well, all focused on cultivation. But the current third generation of direct heirs seems rather peculiar.

Fenn Finger saw his eldest brother ask and replied, "Big Brother, there's more to it than you realize."

So Fenn Finger explained everything from the beginning. His second brother, Second Uncle Fenn, listened, and when he heard his own son had been taken hostage, his face changed dramatically. He demanded anxiously, "What happened to my son?"

"We still don’t know," Fenn Finger sighed.

At that moment, Second Uncle Fenn was the most unsettled. He hadn't expected that retrieving the Nine-Color Mirror would involve his own son.

"Damn it, what kind of force is he, what kind of person?" Second Uncle Fenn could hardly believe it. After all, the Fenn Family is a major power in this world—who would dare to so brazenly kidnap a direct heir of the Fenn Family?

"We don’t know. All we know is that the brewer kidnapped our nephew, and his friend wields a strange cultivation art. That’s why, Father, the steward was ordered to bring out the Nine-Color Mirror, just in case," Fenn Finger said.

After Fenn Finger’s explanation, Second Young Master Fenn was itching to rush out and find Evan Yang.

"We’re here. In a moment, the three of you will activate the formation with me, then we’ll retrieve the Nine-Color Mirror," Steward Fenn said.

The three nodded in agreement.

The three followed Steward Fenn’s instructions, standing at designated points. Together with Steward Fenn, the four formed the corners of a square and channeled their power.

Once they exerted their strength, a beam of light appeared between the four, and within it, a mirror materialized. The mirror shimmered with nine colors, dazzling to behold.

After about a quarter of an hour, Steward Fenn reached out and took the Nine-Color Mirror in hand, sighing, "It’s already cracked in places."

"Cracked? Steward Fenn, what’s going on?" The three saw the cracks on the mirror and all looked surprised.

Steward Fenn explained, "Back when your father and I were close, he told me this mirror had already been used five times. It can only be activated nine times in total—you all know this. Now just four uses remain."

"Five times?" The group was shocked to hear it had been used so often.

"The Fenn Family has existed for a long time. Many things have happened over the years, and various patriarchs have used it. Now, your father must use it against some stranger who came out of nowhere," Steward Fenn sighed.

"Steward Fenn, is this mirror really that powerful?" Fenn Finger had seen Evan Yang’s beast phantom and was skeptical about a small, already-cracked mirror.

"This artifact is said to reflect all power-type attacks. The stronger the opponent, the stronger the rebound. So in effect, the enemy attacks himself with his own strength. Would you call that powerful?" Steward Fenn smiled.

Everyone looked astonished. It really was powerful—using the opponent’s own force against him. If Evan Yang knew, he’d be frustrated; his power was borrowed, so a rebound could cripple him.

"Only four activations left. Looks like we’ll have to use it sparingly," Fenn Finger said.

Everyone nodded. Second Uncle Fenn grew more agitated and asked Steward Fenn, "What does that person look like?"

"What are you planning?" Steward Fenn asked.

"I’m going to find him, of course—I have to rescue my son," Second Uncle Fenn said.

"I’ll handle it. Even if you go now, could you really find him?" Steward Fenn understood Second Uncle Fenn’s urgency, but under current circumstances, finding the kidnapper would be difficult—many had tried before.

"What if he really kills my son?" Second Uncle Fenn said.

"Don’t worry, he wouldn’t dare. Otherwise, what would he use to bargain for the method to resolve the Tyrant Seal Art’s side effects?" Steward Fenn was convinced Evan Yang wouldn’t kill Second Young Master Fenn.

"Only the patriarch knows the true Tyrant Seal Art method. How would we know? Are we just supposed to sit here and wait?" Second Uncle Fenn grew even more restless—this method was always kept secret, known only to the Fenn Family’s patriarch.

After Second Uncle Fenn spoke, everyone fell silent. They all knew what he meant. Fenn Finger had once tried to fool Evan Yang’s friend with a fake method, but that trick wouldn’t work anymore. They could only wait to see what Steward Fenn would decide.

"Let’s just send out a wanted notice for the two of them. If we run into them, great. If not, sooner or later they’ll come knocking," Steward Fenn said.

Second Uncle Fenn’s expression turned ugly. He left in anger. Seeing this, Steward Fenn sighed helplessly, "You two, keep an eye on him. Don’t let him do anything foolish. That person’s cultivation art is bizarre—without the Nine-Color Mirror, none of us can handle him."

"Got it," Fenn Finger said. He’d witnessed the strange beast phantom himself, so he nodded and left with the eldest brother.

Watching the three depart, Steward Fenn sighed, "Just who is this person, to be so terrifying?"

Thankfully, the opponent’s power isn’t limitless—otherwise, the Fenn Family would already be in chaos.

Evan Yang hadn’t expected Patriarch Fenn to analyze things so thoroughly. If he’d heard their discussion himself, he would have been shocked.

"Kid, you’re back?" Mad Elder greeted Evan Yang with a smile.

"Yeah, how’s the Fenn Family down below?" Evan Yang asked with a smile.

"There are more people around, but most are just here to watch," Mad Elder laughed.

Evan Yang glanced around—there really were more Fenn Family members nearby. And several from Sevenmile Peak were keeping a close eye on the Fenn Family’s movements.

"How did it come to this?" Evan Yang said with a bitter smile.

"Who knows? Maybe you used that technique and scared both of them off," Mad Elder laughed.

Evan Yang chuckled, "Yeah, if I hadn’t, I’d be dead by now."

"Oh? Ran into a tough opponent?" Mad Elder laughed.

"That’s right. Steward Fenn is strong, and he caught me off guard. I’ll have to get payback next time," Evan Yang said.

"So what’s your plan now? You aren’t going to stay here forever, are you?" Mad Elder laughed.

"I threatened them—if they don’t give me the method, I’ll show them Second Young Master Fenn’s corpse. But they actually refused. Damn it," Evan Yang said, frustrated.

"What you want, no one else has the right to know. Even the patriarch’s own children aren’t privy to it. So if you kill one, they might not come out—they’ll just treat you as an enemy and hunt you down," Mad Elder explained.

Evan Yang felt the same way. Otherwise, the Fenn Family wouldn’t have tried to trick him into coming out. Luckily, he had his little lion—otherwise, he’d have died outside.

"Still, you really are gutsy—such a small force taking on a clan this big," Mad Elder said, smiling as Evan Yang pondered.
