Target, That Lunatic Is Jumping from the Tower Again

Though they were on the road, traveling was never dull with each other’s company. Even chewing on cold, hard steamed buns, the two would end up smiling at each other, feeling more satisfied than if they were feasting on rare delicacies.

Maybe it was that night, living like an ordinary married couple, that changed Prince Nolan. Or maybe leaving the imperial capital meant he no longer had to keep up his cold, distant defenses. On the road ahead, Prince Nolan openly showed his gentle, caring side to Serena.

Even if Nolan’s efforts weren’t perfect or obvious, it was enough for Serena. This was the kind of life she’d always dreamed of.

No power struggles, no schemes, no endless assassinations—if she could, Serena wished they could live like this forever, just like an ordinary couple.

When they camped outdoors at night, Nolan would personally roast wild game for Serena. Even if the meat was charred and bitter, Serena still ate every bite—risking cancer, she joked—then wiped her greasy mouth on Nolan’s face, pestering him until he lost his temper.

When they passed a cliff and saw plum blossoms blooming high above, Nolan would stop, leap to the edge, and pick the most beautiful blossom for Serena.

Even if the wind left only bare branches and a few unopened buds, Serena would still beam and hold the blossom in her hand, asking Nolan to tuck it into her hair. She’d keep it there until it withered—unless Nolan found her another flower.

At night, Nolan would heat water for Serena so she could soak her feet and chase away the day’s chill.

Even if the water was only lukewarm by the time Nolan brought it over, Serena would still happily dip her feet in the wooden basin. She wouldn’t move even after the water cooled, unless Nolan came to pick her up. Every time, Nolan would give in—afraid the cold might seep into her body.

When they slept, Serena’s hands and feet were always icy cold and took ages to warm up. Once Nolan realized, he’d open his own robe and hold her hands and feet close to his chest to warm her.

Even though Nolan changed his clothes every morning, and Serena had to wash them, she was still happy—and never tired of it.

William was right—men have to be trained. It took ten days to travel from Skyvault Palace Sect to Lyndaria’s royal capital, and in that time, Nolan got used to picking fresh plum blossoms for Serena.

He’d never even asked if Serena liked plum blossoms. And on the Nine Provinces Continent, no other girl wore plum blossoms in her hair.

At night, Nolan would automatically warm Serena’s hands and feet, no matter how mild the weather got. Once he decided on something, he never needed Serena’s opinion—she just went along with it.

At first, Nolan was awkward and reluctant, but now? He moved so quickly Serena almost wondered if he was really Nolan.

Whatever the case, Serena enjoyed this life. Even when they reached the capital—Lyndaria’s royal city—she felt a bit down.

Now that their conditions had improved, would Nolan still do those little things for her—the chores most men of this era would find beneath their pride?

Probably not! Serena laughed at herself. It’s true what they say—it’s easy to go from frugal to spoiled, but hard to go back. She figured it would take her ages to get used to life without Nolan’s care.

Just like ordinary Lyndarian citizens, the two lined up to enter the city. The officials checked them over and, after confirming their identities, let them in. Serena was zoning out, and Nolan had to gently nudge her: “Why are you spacing out? Let’s go.”

This was Lyndaria, not a place to let your guard down. If their true identities were discovered, they’d die here—and no one would stand up for them, because they’d infiltrated enemy territory.

"Oh, coming!" Serena stumbled a step, quickly following behind Nolan.

To sneak into Lyndaria undetected, Nolan and Serena disguised themselves in advance, preparing forged passes and a whole set of identification documents.

Serena’s alias was Claire Chen, Nolan’s was Liam Lin. They posed as an ordinary married couple from a small southern Lyndarian town, visiting relatives in the capital.

They were a real couple, but couldn’t call themselves husband and wife. For both Nolan and Serena, it was a regret. But since they had to create fake identities abroad, Nolan wasn’t about to let this chance slip by.

Yes—abroad. The capital of a foreign country. Serena had gone overseas, all the way to a foreign capital. But to her dismay, she didn’t feel excited at all. It didn’t even feel like she’d left home.

When she first crossed into Lyndaria, Serena felt a little moved—she was technically abroad. But looking at the lifestyle, so similar to Eastlyn’s, she couldn’t find any excitement. She’d hoped the capital would be different, but it turned out to be just like Eastlyn’s royal city. Serena was disappointed.

What a waste of a trip abroad!

Nolan seemed to know what Serena was thinking. As they brushed past each other, he whispered in her ear: “The Lan clan ruled this continent for nearly a thousand years. Even divided into separate kingdoms, their way of life and customs never changed. They’re still Lan clan people.”

Serena glanced up at Nolan—this was the second time he’d solemnly declared that the Lan clan ruled the continent.

She always felt Nolan had some connection to the Lan clan, especially to Lance Quinn. But this wasn’t the place to talk. Serena suppressed her curiosity and kept walking, as if she hadn’t heard Nolan’s words at all.
