The More I See the Son-in-Law, the More Satisfied I Am

"Dowager Lady, how do you like the taste?" Evan Xiao asked, flashing a teasing grin.

The Dowager Lady's face changed, then she took another big bite and exclaimed, "What kind of pastry is this? It's crazy delicious!"

"It's a hometown favorite—Dragon Beard Cake. The elders back home are obsessed with it, so I brought some to share with you, Dowager Lady, and Lena."

As he spoke, Evan Xiao personally handed a piece to Grace's dad, mom, and big brother.

They all raved about how tasty it was, making faces like they’d found food heaven.

The Dragon Beard Cake was pretty hefty. After everyone got their share, only one piece was left on the plate.

"Is it really that good?" Grace Wan asked, looking like she was dying for a taste.

Evan Xiao glanced at her, then slid the last piece in front of Grace. "Miss Lawrence, you should try it too."

And just like that, the plate was cleared.

Grace Wan and Kenneth Zhuo missed out, and their faces fell instantly.

She glanced at the other unopened pastries, feeling a little embarrassed to ask the servants to open them.

Grace smiled and took a bite of the pastry.

Even with her picky taste as an Eighth-Tier Alchemist, Grace had to admit—this pastry was absolutely delicious.

And after eating it, her stomach felt especially comfortable too.

"What’s it made of?" Grace asked him.

Evan Xiao turned to look at her, lips curving into a smile. "It’s made from a kind of water grass native to my hometown. Tasty, right?"

Grace suddenly remembered what he said before leaving—that he'd bring her something delicious when he came back.

She pressed her lips together, smiling as she nodded.

"I brought plenty. Take your time and enjoy."

With her family watching, Grace's cheeks turned a little red. She just nodded quietly, not daring to say a word.

The Dowager Lady watched them, feeling utterly delighted.

Those two sitting together—now that was a match made in heaven. Just looking at them made everyone happy.

Honestly, it was pretty perfect. With Grace’s dazzling talent, there was no way she could just marry out. Having Evan Xiao as a live-in son-in-law was simply ideal.

The more she looked at Evan Xiao, the more satisfied she felt with her choice of grandson-in-law...

...

That New Year's Eve dinner was truly something special.

The Dowager Lady and the Prime Minister seemed especially cheerful tonight, and both drank a bit too much.

After a few drinks, they stopped calling him 'General' and just went with 'Evan Xiao.'

"Evan Xiao! Back when Grace’s grandfather was still around, things were so different..."

"Evan Xiao! What's your family situation? I heard your parents are gone? Did you grow up with your mentor?"

"Evan Xiao, from now on, you have to come spend every New Year's Eve with us!"

"And you can come over anytime, not just for holidays!"

Evan Xiao drank a lot too, but he stayed sharp, answering everyone with a quiet charm—he wasn’t the chatty type, but he had his own style.

Kenneth Zhuo was unusually well-behaved tonight.

He didn’t cause trouble for anyone, and even toasted Evan Xiao several times.

After all, Evan Xiao was his boss.

...

Grace had never experienced a New Year's Eve dinner like this before.

Evan Xiao’s presence surrounded her—tall, confident, and between them, a subtle air of flirtation lingered.

He fit right in with her family too.

Grace barely spoke all evening.

But she kept flashing mysterious smiles—probably... hundreds of times that night...

...

After dinner, since Lena couldn’t stay up late, Grace walked her home.

On the way back, Minister Zhuo’s attendant quietly intercepted her, asking her to go to the Rosewood Pavilion.

So Grace headed to the Rosewood Pavilion.

Her father and Evan Xiao were there, deep in conversation.
