Chapter 758: Nagging
Jairus erupted in fury, pointing angrily at Beta: "With evidence this clear, it's as undeniable as the Tree of Wisdom itself! And yet you still refuse to confess! Colluding with the Ashen Orcs—tell me, what exactly are you plotting?"
Beta stood off to the side, trembling and afraid to speak. Over the years, the Ashen Orcs and Dark Elves hadn’t exactly been friendly; if you ran into one of them alone, nobody would hesitate to strike. It had been ages since anyone from either tribe dared show up in the other’s territory.
Now, just as they reached the gates of the Dark Elf enclave, a Dark Elf jumped out to confront them. Beta was scared out of his wits, but he still kept up appearances, not daring to show any weakness—he didn’t say a word. After witnessing Leon and Rodney’s battle, only an idiot would try anything sneaky.
But at this moment, watching Jairus pile on accusations without ever daring to make a move, Beta couldn’t help but feel a hint of contempt in his eyes.
This Dark Elf was truly an idiot, daring to speak to Lord Merlin like that. He clearly had no idea how terrifying Lord Merlin really was. If he’d witnessed the fight between Lord Merlin and Rodney, his knees would’ve turned to jelly.
Talk about a death wish—Rodney led an entire army and still didn’t dare challenge Lord Merlin, and this Dark Elf must be out of his mind...
Jairus blocked the path, chattering incessantly, determined not to let up. Leon was growing more and more impatient.
"Hubert, tell this idiot."
Hubert’s face lit up instantly as he strode forward, slinging Slaughter over his shoulder and puffing out his chest at Jairus. With his other hand, he grabbed Beta like a chick and hauled him over.
"Idiot! Lord Hubert is only telling you this out of respect for Lord Merlin. You’d better listen up!"
"Beta is Lord Hubert’s captive, and now he’s my attendant! Do you even know what an attendant is? It means he has to follow my every order—no questions asked!"
Hubert strutted about, eyes full of disdain. He clearly thought Jairus should’ve figured this out by now—how could someone so grown-up be so clueless?
Beta wore a sycophantic grin, nodding enthusiastically in agreement, then followed behind Hubert like a loyal lackey.
Jairus’s face went from pale to green, nearly coughing up blood from rage—he’d just been insulted by an orc!
After a long moment, Jairus finally roared, "I don’t care! Dark Elves and Ashen Orcs are enemies. Who knows if this Ashen Orc is a spy? If you bring him here, we have to interrogate him. No questioning, no entry into the Dark Elf enclave!"
With that, Jairus stormed over, face twisted in anger, clearly ready to grab Beta by force.
Leon’s brow furrowed; he let out a cold snort. In that instant, tangible magical power surged forth, swirling around him—one thought from Leon could unleash a devastating spell.
"Try touching him and see what happens!"
Leon’s gaze turned icy as he stared down Jairus. If Jairus dared make a move, he’d be hit with a storm of magical fury.
Jairus stopped in his tracks. He could already feel the terrifying magic swirling around him—one more step and a dozen spells would come crashing down.
Intimidated by the sheer magical force, Jairus gritted his teeth and glared viciously at Leon, but he just couldn’t bring himself to take that final step.
Just as things were about to explode, a surge of magic appeared out of nowhere—and suddenly, the Second Elder materialized.
"Jairus, calm down."
The Second Elder’s mild words were a lifeline for Jairus, who quickly stepped back and hid behind him, though he kept glaring at Leon with barely-contained fury.
Leon instantly dispersed the magic swirling around him. In the blink of an eye, it was as if nothing had happened at all.
The Second Elder caught sight of Elsa cradled in Reina’s arms, his eyes flashing with surprise. Ignoring everything else, he asked, "What’s wrong with Elsa?"
Leon shook his head. "He was ambushed by an Ashen Orc’s Arrow of Chaos—seriously wounded and unconscious. He might not make it."
At the mention of the Arrow of Chaos, the Second Elder couldn’t help but sigh. If Elsa was in this state, he’d clearly taken a direct hit from that cursed spell.
Meanwhile, Jairus, still fuming, jumped out again and started shouting at Leon.
"You’re obviously colluding with the Ashen Orcs! Elsa saw your true colors, so you tried to silence her, didn’t you? You hurt our princess and still claim you’re not working with the Ashen Orcs? Now you’re back—have you already plotted something with them...?"
With the Second Elder present, Jairus felt emboldened and started piling more accusations onto Leon.
Leon looked thoroughly annoyed, his eyes flashing with murderous intent as he glared coldly at Jairus.
"Keep running your mouth and I’ll make sure you never get another chance to speak!"
Jairus opened his mouth, but Leon’s icy, murderous glare made him swallow his words and settle for a bitter snort.
The Second Elder ignored Jairus, sighed as he looked at Elsa, and said, "Hand her over to me. I’ll have the tribe’s healers tend to her, but a hit from the Arrow of Chaos is extremely dangerous..."
Leon shook his head. "No need. I’ve already treated her. Her condition is critical, and no outside help will make a difference now. If she’s to survive, it’ll be up to her alone."
The Second Elder sighed. "Elsa really has had more than her share of misery..."
After a long pause, the Second Elder finally got down to business.
"Merlin, did you find anything useful during your time outside?"
