Amy's True Motives

1/4/2026

Charles Yin shook his head. "No. If it was purely about protection, Amy wouldn't have needed to go this far."

Cecilia Gu was confused again. "Then why did she do it?"

Charles Yin was always the most patient with Cecilia Gu. He continued to analyze, "Even though she's an elite agent, she has plenty of resources. Creating fake identities and information wouldn't be difficult for her. Besides, you said yourself that Amy used to be in charge of tracking and gathering intelligence, so she's familiar with this kind of work. Making up fake identities would be a piece of cake for her. So she could protect her family on her own—why would she need Peter Pingshan's help? Amy isn't an ordinary woman; she doesn't need a man to survive. As long as she's willing, she can live worry-free anytime she wants."

Cecilia Gu felt a little dizzy. "Yeah, that's true."

"But she deliberately chose the hardest path—she chose to get involved with Peter Pingshan, breaking up Peter and Rona Muir’s marriage. She knew this would provoke Peter and Rona’s anger, so why did she still do it?"

"Right?" Cecilia Gu felt like her head was spinning with questions.

Why is it that after her husband analyzes things, she feels even more confused?

Charles Yin noticed Cecilia Gu’s confusion and couldn’t help but say, "So her second request wasn’t to have Peter protect her family—it was for her to protect her family herself."

"Huh? Hm?" Cecilia Gu was even more puzzled.

"If I’m not mistaken, Amy was threatened." Charles Yin gently handed Cecilia Gu a bowl of soup, urging her to drink it.

Cecilia Gu drank the whole bowl in one go, then looked at Charles Yin with bright eyes, waiting for him to continue.

Charles Yin didn't keep her in suspense and went on, "My guess is, Amy was probably turned by someone. You know, Hans has made countless enemies in the Southern Hemisphere—both official and private. His enemies could join hands and circle the globe; there are endless people who want him dead."

"Yeah, that's true," Cecilia Gu agreed.

"Amy is an outside operative, so it's easy for her to be turned or threatened. And besides life-or-death stuff, the only thing that could threaten her is her family. Amy's abilities are average; she can't save her family on her own. Even if she told Hans, do you think Hans would care about Amy's family's lives? Amy knows this all too well—she can't count on anyone, so she has to take action herself."

"Then why did Amy target Peter Pingshan? Peter can't save her family either!" Cecilia Gu was still confused.

"Peter can't help her, but what about Peter Kitano's family?" Charles Yin smiled. "Haven't you noticed that Amy's features look a lot like someone of Japanese descent?"

Cecilia Gu gasped. "Are you saying Amy might be Japanese?"

"No, to be precise, she's probably mixed race." Charles Yin waved his finger. "That's her third demand."

"Huh? There's more?" Cecilia Gu was stunned.

"Yes." Charles Yin continued, "There's another possibility, one that's even deeper: Amy herself is a huge trap."

"I don't get it, can you explain it more clearly, honey?" Cecilia Gu said with a bitter smile. "Compared to you, I feel like my IQ just got crushed."

Charles Yin laughed and kissed Cecilia Gu’s forehead dotingly. "It's okay, no matter what you're like, I love you."

Cecilia Gu snorted and looked at him with a proud expression.

Charles Yin stopped being mysterious and explained directly, "Here's what I think. You know Hans is almost forty, but he's ruled the seas for over twenty years. That means he's been a big shot since he was a teenager. How old is Amy? You just said she's only twenty-two, right? Hans usually picks kids around seven to ten for intensive training to build his own force. So, more than ten years ago, someone targeted Hans and set up a trap."

"This person, or force, deliberately put Amy in Hans’s path, making her one of Hans’s new agents. At first, they probably hoped Amy would rise to the top and get close to Hans—only then could she deliver a fatal blow. But Amy just didn’t have the talent, so she stayed on the outside and never got close to Hans. That made her a useless pawn. And useless pawns don’t need to stick around for long."

Cecilia Gu nodded—this part she understood.

"Neither the person behind Amy nor Hans would keep a useless pawn around. So if Amy wants to survive, she has to prove her worth. With Hans, she doesn’t stand a chance—she’ll never be his right-hand woman. But betraying Hans is much easier. And just then, Peter Pingshan showed up. Think about it: did Amy just appear out of nowhere? Why didn’t you remember her before?"

Cecilia Gu thought hard and remembered what Molly Yun said—she recalled that Molly mentioned Amy volunteered to be Peter Kitano’s experimental assistant.

Peter Kitano needed a temporary assistant—he could’ve picked anyone, so why Amy?

The answer’s simple: Amy had her sights set on Peter Kitano from the start. She came prepared.

She planned it all out, while Peter Kitano was completely unaware.

Peter Kitano only cares about his experiments, not about social relationships, so Amy easily manipulated him.

Cecilia Gu nodded vigorously. "Exactly!"

"An unknown outside agent suddenly became Peter’s temporary assistant. Without doing her homework, it would’ve been hard to get Peter to keep her around." Charles Yin continued, "Amy had a ready-made reason for all this. She had to survive—not just escape Hans, but also the master behind her."

"Here's a question," Cecilia Gu said. "If Amy just needed to betray Hans, why did she have to break up Peter’s relationship too?"

"Because she wanted to muddy the waters." Charles Yin explained with a smile, "Did you really think Hans didn’t know anything?"

Cecilia Gu gasped.

Damn!

How do these people’s brains even work?

Why is everything so complicated?

"See, first, someone wanted Hans dead, so they planted Amy as a sleeper agent years ago and used her family to threaten her, forcing her to assassinate Hans. Peter Kitano was doing experiments at Hans’s base, so they were definitely close. That gave Amy an opportunity to strike. Second, Hans isn’t stupid—he probably saw through Amy’s plans long ago. He didn’t act because he wanted to catch the big fish behind her. Third, Amy knows herself well; she can’t take down Hans or her own master, but she still wants to save her family. Fourth, Amy is terrified of the day she gets exposed—she’d be in trouble with everyone and die a horrible death."

Charles Yin summed it up for Cecilia Gu: "Why did Hans let Amy go with Peter Kitano so easily? Because he’s fishing. Now the big fish is getting restless, pushing Amy to act. With all this pressure, Amy can only stir things up and make everyone focus on Peter and Molly Yun, then wait for her chance to strike!"

Cecilia Gu took a deep breath. "What will Amy do next?"

"Of course she’ll play both sides, lie to everyone, and wait for her chance to rescue her family." Charles Yin said matter-of-factly. "She has to show both bosses that she’s not just sitting still, but always stirring things up."

Cecilia Gu nodded. "Makes sense."

"Like I said, Amy is mixed race, with traits of Japanese descent, and she targeted Peter Kitano. So the people behind Amy are probably focused on a few individuals." Charles Yin said confidently, "If I’m not mistaken, it’s Tom Kitano."

"Huh?" Cecilia Gu was confused again.

"Tom Kitano has some history with the Peter family." Charles Yin smiled. "A man who sends his own illegitimate daughter out as a spy is ruthless. Back in the day, Tom Kitano competed fiercely with Hans, but Hans was the one who won out. Later, Hans stole a lot of his best stuff, so the feud was set. It’s no surprise Tom Kitano would want to take Hans down."

Cecilia Gu: "So what’s the relationship between Tom Kitano and the Peter family?"

"The two families mind their own business," Charles Yin commented. "That’s why Amy only schemed against Peter Kitano that night, but didn’t dare actually do anything. The Peter family’s anger is already more than she can handle."

Cecilia Gu breathed a sigh of relief.

As long as nothing actually happened, it’s fine.

There’s still hope for Molly Yun and Peter Kitano.

Cecilia Gu couldn’t help saying to Charles Yin, "I seriously don’t know how you people’s brains work. I just told you a bit of the story, and you figured out everything—past and future! That’s scary!"

Charles Yin pinched Cecilia Gu’s cheek. "Clearly, you’re the scary one. No matter how smart I am, I still lose to you. This life, I’m hopelessly yours."

Cecilia Gu smiled sweetly.

Thinking of Molly Yun, Cecilia Gu frowned again. "But even if Amy didn’t actually do anything with Peter, Molly still won’t believe it!"

"You should stay out of this," Charles Yin said. "Peter usually doesn’t bother with this kind of thing, but that doesn’t mean he’s stupid. He’ll figure out a way to handle it."

"Okay," Cecilia Gu replied glumly. "What about Amy?"

Charles Yin chuckled. "Don’t worry, she won’t last much longer. Hans has had his hook out for ages—it’s time to reel it in."

That finally cheered Cecilia Gu up. "Mm!"

Charles Yin’s guess was spot on.

Or maybe Charles Yin just knows Hans’s personality too well.

Without anyone knowing, Hans had already secretly arrived in N City.

Right now, he was standing in a hotel room—and kneeling before him was Amy herself!
