Evan Wakes Up

1/19/2026

For a late-stage God-Venerable, killing someone is all too easy—a matter settled in just a few breaths. This time, including Blue-Shade God-Venerable and Rainbow Court Mistress Rainveil, there were six experts who came to investigate, all at the God-Emperor level. But the two handled it so flawlessly that not a single trace was left behind.

While killing them, the two set up a massive energy barrier. Even if someone used powerful artifacts to investigate, it would be useless—no clues or traces would be left behind.

"We still don't know who this person is, but I believe one day he'll show himself before everyone. It's not safe to linger here—we should leave quickly!" said Rainbow Court Mistress Rainveil.

As for what would happen next, Evan had no idea. Right now, he was still unconscious. Even though his Chaos Divine Power hadn't been depleted, unleashing Absolute Cleave had burned up every last drop of his spiritual strength. He was in a deep sleep—only when his spirit recovered would he finally wake up.

Lena Zhong didn't know what had happened to Evan either, and since he wasn't injured, she grew more and more anxious—especially now, with danger still lurking. Her four Protectors had vanished, so she could only find a cave halfway up the cliff to hide and wait for Evan to wake up.

After finding the cave, Lena even set up an energy barrier at the entrance. That way, even if someone probed with divine sense, they'd just see a cliff and never discover them.

Seven days passed in a flash. Evan lay motionless on the ground, fast asleep. The cave seemed naturally formed, only a few square meters in size, but it was enough for the two of them to hide out here.

"Why hasn't Evan woken up yet? What on earth happened? And why did that God-Emperor just disappear for no reason?" Lena muttered to herself. She clearly remembered that when she woke up, there was a thick smell of blood in the air.

With no other options, Lena could only wait quietly for Evan to slowly wake up. As long as they made it to Rainbow Court in time for the auction, it would be fine. Spending this time together with him actually felt pretty nice.

Just thinking about it made her cheeks flush a little. She didn't know why she felt this way, but she didn't want to dwell on it—thinking about it only made her more confused.

Just like that, Evan spent almost a month in the cave before his eyelids finally twitched. Lena saw it clearly—"Evan, you're awake!" she blurted out, unable to hold back.

But Evan, still deep in sleep, didn't open his eyes yet. His body would occasionally move, making Lena think he was really awake. It took another ten days before Evan truly opened his eyes.

The first thing he saw was Lena's sparkling eyes and her face full of joy. "Evan, you're finally awake—you scared me to death!" Lena exclaimed immediately.

"Did I sleep for a long time? Where are we?" Evan's head was still foggy, but at least he could speak now.

"You've been asleep for almost two months. The auction starts in a few days, so at least you woke up in time. We're in a cave I found—since you were unconscious, I couldn't take you to Rainbow Court. If we ran into Dominic Bai and the others, it would be trouble," Lena said.

"Thanks, Lena. But my head is still spinning. Let's talk after I recover a bit," Evan said.

He knew it was the after-effect of using Absolute Cleave—he hadn't expected it to be so severe. Clearly, if he ever wanted to use Absolute Cleave again, he'd need to reach late-stage God-King or even God-Emperor Realm. For now, he'd be better off sticking to Divine Cleave; Absolute Cleave was just too terrifying. It could even kill a God-Emperor in one blow! That feeling was both exhilarating and overwhelming.

With a thought, Evan took out a white porcelain bottle from his Coiling-Dragon Ring. The label read 'Mind-Focusing Pill.' He didn't know exactly what it did, but he was sure it could ease the dizzy pain in his head.

He popped the cap, poured out a white pill, and swallowed it in one go. As soon as the pill appeared, the whole cave was filled with a rich medicinal aroma. Evan didn't think much of it, but Lena was anything but calm.

She saw the label and the pill with her own eyes. Right now, she was staring at Evan like he was some kind of monster, her curiosity about his true identity growing even stronger.

The Mind-Focusing Pill was a second-grade Divine Pill in the God Realm. Even Stormtower only had two bottles of it—truly rare. Each pill cost at least several thousand top-grade Violet Cloud Crystals, maybe more.

Lena just couldn't figure it out—how did Evan have such a high-grade pill? He'd only just ascended to the God Realm, so where did he get it? If he'd brought it from the lower realms, that was even more impossible, since the key ingredient, Mind-Focusing Grass, only grew in the God Realm and was extremely rare.

But asking Evan about it right now wasn't possible—she'd have to get the truth out of him slowly. Evan, meanwhile, shut his eyes and began refining the pill like he was meditating. A warm current appeared at his dantian, then surged toward the back of his head and slowly settled there.

Evan noticed his God Infant suddenly opened its eyes, then opened its mouth and instantly sucked up all the warm current. At first, it looked listless, but after absorbing the energy, it perked right up.

The dizzy feeling in Evan's head eased up a lot, so he swallowed another Mind-Focusing Pill. The result was the same, and now he was basically clear-headed again.

Lena was anything but calm. Even a God-Emperor wouldn't dare take two pills at once, but Evan was only early-stage God-Lord. Who knew what would happen if he swallowed two?

After a while, she couldn't help but ask, "Evan, how do you feel now? Is the energy overwhelming or making you uncomfortable?"

"No, I feel much better now. The Mind-Focusing Pill is pretty good—I was thinking of taking another, but it looks pretty rare. I'll save the rest for later, in case I get dizzy or have a headache again. No need to waste them," Evan replied nonchalantly.

Once again, Lena was left speechless by Evan. All she could think was one word to describe him—monster!

Now that Evan was awake, Lena needed to ask him about what happened. "Evan, what happened with that God-Emperor? When I woke up, he was gone. And how did you end up unconscious?"

Evan knew Lena would ask. Right now, he couldn't reveal his true identity, so he could only tell her a well-intentioned lie...
