Cleansing the Memories

2/27/2026

Evan Yang was trapped in this place filled with blinding light. After being struck by Evan, White Guard Blake Bai was sent flying and lay unconscious outside. Azure Guard Eric Lin came over, checked Blake’s condition, found him comatose, and then helped up the guard who had already been crippled.

Before leaving that area, Azure Guard Eric Lin glanced back at the dazzling light and growled viciously, “Evan Yang, just let the light inside devour you to death.”

He left Evan Yang in that radiance-filled place, then took the others and departed.

As for Evan Yang, trapped inside, he found the heat in his body rapidly building up—all of it coming from the light shining on him. The only thing he could do was surround himself with an ice wall, but even his ice wall could only last a quarter of an hour before melting away, forcing him to rebuild it again and again.

And so it went, cycle after cycle—while protecting himself, Evan Yang also searched for a way out, but found no exit at all. Faced with this situation, he was helpless and could only try to figure out what kind of place this really was.

“Light, nothing but light—can I absorb it?” Evan Yang decided to try absorbing the light, but the temperature was too high. He could only choose a single spot—making a hole in a corner of the ice wall to absorb the light from outside.

This trick actually worked. Since the light was all natural, Evan Yang didn’t hesitate and started absorbing it like crazy. While absorbing, he noticed his Heaven-Cold energy began circulating automatically—a rare occurrence, but he knew it must have some special use, so he didn’t worry about it and kept absorbing the light.

After Azure Guard Eric Lin brought Blake Bai and the others back to a cave, he sat down and grumbled, “Damn it, Evan Yang caused three of us to get hurt.”

“Is White Guard awake yet?” asked the crippled guard.

“No,” Azure Guard Eric Lin replied helplessly. The guard whose body was destroyed, now just a soul, emerged from his treasure and looked at Blake Bai. “Damn it, that Evan Yang.”

“That place will definitely kill him, don’t worry,” Azure Guard Eric Lin said.

“That’s the purest natural light source—and the most dangerous place. If you absorb too much or too slowly, you’ll die,” another guard said.

Azure Guard Eric Lin nodded. “That’s right—the light inside is enough to gather and devour a person, unless their body can’t melt and can absorb endlessly.”

“I’ve never heard of anyone with an invincible body—even an Immortal Sovereign can only last a few days in there before leaving. And him? Hmph, doesn’t know how to escape. Once he enters, he can forget about coming out; after a few days he’ll be nothing but ashes.” The soul-only guard snorted coldly.

“Let’s hope so. For now, everyone rest. After a while, we’ll report to Eldon Liu,” Azure Guard Eric Lin said.

Everyone nodded. Meanwhile, Evan Yang vanished from their sight, and Galen Chao grew more and more worried. He went to look for White Guard Blake Bai, but was told Blake was still unconscious. Not only that, he learned that among Eldon Liu’s Four Great Guards, one was comatose, one crippled, one left as a soul, and only Azure Guard Eric Lin was still in decent shape.

Seeing what happened to these guards, Galen Chao could only guess that Evan Yang must have fought them. So Galen found Azure Guard Eric Lin and asked, “Azure Guard, have you seen Evan Yang from the Light Guard Hall?”

“Evan Yang? Who? Never heard of him!” Azure Guard Eric Lin answered directly. “Really don’t know him?” Galen Chao pressed. “Nope,” Eric Lin said.

Galen Chao chuckled. “If that’s so, I’ll leave for now. If you hear anything about him, let me know.”

“Alright, got it. Safe travels, Steward Chao,” Azure Guard Eric Lin said. Galen Chao nodded and left. After Galen departed, Eric Lin sneered, “It’s already been five days and Evan Yang hasn’t returned to the Light Guard Hall. He must be dead by now.”

After hearing the news, Azure Guard Eric Lin went to see Eldon Liu.

When Azure Guard Eric Lin explained how they dealt with Evan Yang, Eldon Liu frowned. “Four people suffered such heavy losses?”

“Protector Liu, that kid was too strong, so our losses were big,” Azure Guard Eric Lin said.

“That Evan Yang—the Holy Saintess really has her ways. But since you managed to lure him there, there’s no way he’ll make it out alive. You all did well. Go rest up, and let me know if you need anything,” Eldon Liu said.

Azure Guard Eric Lin nodded, and Eldon Liu closed his eyes to continue cultivating.

Galen Chao returned to the Light Guard Hall, unable to stop worrying about Evan Yang. He felt Evan must have run into some life-threatening danger, and probably been killed by those four guards.

Thinking about this, Galen Chao realized the Holy Saintess would question him soon, which would be trouble. So he went to find her.

The Holy Saintess was originally picking flowers. Looking at them, she smiled, "Flowers are the best."

At that moment, Galen Chao appeared. Seeing him, the Holy Saintess raised her brows and said, “Isn’t this Steward Chao?”

“Yes, it’s me,” Galen Chao replied.

“I wonder what brings Steward Chao here?” the Holy Saintess asked curiously.

“Holy Saintess, it’s like this—the person you entrusted to me has gone missing,” Galen Chao said, not mentioning Evan Yang’s death.

“How could that be? When did this happen?” The Holy Saintess frowned, a trace of anger in her voice.

“It happened five days ago,” Galen Chao said.

“Didn’t he tell you where he was going?” the Holy Saintess asked.

“No,” Galen Chao replied.

“What’s going on? He shouldn’t just disappear without reason,” the Holy Saintess said suspiciously.

“It might be related to something, but I’m not sure if I should say,” Galen Chao said.

“Speak. If it’s related, I want to hear everything,” the Holy Saintess said.

Galen Chao explained how Evan Yang was framed and fought with the Four Great Guards. When the Holy Saintess finished listening, her eyes flashed with surprise. “You mean Eldon Liu’s Four Great Guards targeted him? And Evan Yang defeated them?”

“That’s right, but what happened after that, I don’t know,” Galen Chao said.

“Come with me,” the Holy Saintess said.

“May I ask what the Holy Saintess intends to do?” Galen Chao asked curiously.

“To find the Four Great Guards,” the Holy Saintess said. She set off at once, and Galen Chao, prepared for this, followed behind.

Azure Guard Eric Lin had just left Eldon Liu’s place when someone stopped him—it was none other than the Holy Saintess and Galen Chao.

Seeing the Holy Saintess, Azure Guard Eric Lin greeted her respectfully, “Holy Saintess.”

“Speak! What happened to Evan Yang?” the Holy Saintess asked bluntly.

“I don’t know what you mean, Holy Saintess.” Azure Guard Eric Lin was loyal to Eldon Liu, so no matter what the Holy Saintess asked, he pretended not to know.

“Steward Chao, why don’t you explain?” the Holy Saintess said.

Galen Chao explained the conflict between them and Evan Yang. When Azure Guard Eric Lin finished listening, he was shocked, but quickly calmed down and said, “That’s just Steward Chao’s one-sided story.”

“Oh? Are you saying I made it up?” Galen Chao asked.

Azure Guard Eric Lin said, “I wouldn’t dare. But this concerns the reputation of the four of us. If Steward Chao insists, we hope to go to the Hall of Judgment for a fair trial.”

“The Hall of Judgment? Fine, I’ll go with you,” Galen Chao said.

The Holy Saintess knew the rules here. Although she had authority, she followed Azure Guard Eric Lin’s suggestion: “Then let’s go to the Hall of Judgment. We’ll see what you have to say there.”

Azure Guard Eric Lin considered carefully, then said, “Since you’re talking about all four of us, I’ll call the other three.”

“Oh? Go ahead. I’ll wait here. Don’t run, or you’ll be guilty of more,” the Holy Saintess said.

“Holy Saintess, I will clear my name. I’ll be back soon,” Azure Guard Eric Lin replied respectfully.

The Holy Saintess watched Azure Guard Eric Lin leave. He found a crippled comrade and another who was only a soul, then checked on Blake Bai, who was still unconscious and wouldn’t wake anytime soon, so he didn’t bother with him.

The three of them arrived at Eldon Liu’s place. When Eldon Liu heard the Holy Saintess was investigating, he frowned and said, “You’re getting found out after all. Truly a failure.”

“Please help us, Eldon Liu,” Azure Guard Eric Lin said.

“Understood. The three of you, stand still. I’ll help you now,” Eldon Liu said.

The three stood in a row. Eldon Liu waved his hand, and a burst of intense light appeared. Eldon Liu could see into their memories. Seeing these, he smiled to himself, then waved his hand again, and all three fainted.

After a while, the three woke up. Seeing they were still at Eldon Liu’s place, Azure Guard Eric Lin asked, “Eldon Liu, what happened?”

“I’ve erased part of your memories. No matter how they interrogate you, they won’t find any answers. Go without worry,” Eldon Liu said.

The three were delighted—Eldon Liu had erased those memories. Still, Azure Guard Eric Lin asked, “Eldon Liu, you said erased, but why is there still a blur in my mind?”

“It’s a fake erasure. After some time, the blurry memories will return, but by then you’ll be safe,” Eldon Liu said.

Azure Guard Eric Lin smiled. “Thank you, Eldon Liu.” With that, the three turned and left.

Watching them leave, Eldon Liu sneered. “Holy Saintess, Holy Saintess, now all three have blanks about that incident. Let’s see how you interrogate them.”

The Holy Saintess and Galen Chao had no idea what had happened. When they saw only three guards appear, the Holy Saintess frowned. “Where’s the last one?”

“The last one is still unconscious from over-cultivation,” Azure Guard Eric Lin said.

“Over-cultivation?” Galen Chao sneered. The Holy Saintess knew there was still no solid evidence, so she couldn’t act recklessly. “Let’s go,” she said.

So the Holy Saintess and Galen Chao took the three guards to the Hall of Judgment.

The Hall of Judgment was a black castle, with many experts coming and going inside.
