My Poor Good Sister

Evan Xiao threw off the covers and rolled on top of her. "You're not feeling bad anymore, but now I'm suffering! It's your turn to help me out..."

"Ah... I, I still feel a bit sore. I think it's swollen..." she said, pressing against his chest.

"Really?"

"Yeah."

"Let me take a look."

"L-look? No, no, no, please don't!"

"I already saw it last night, nothing to be shy about." He really did check, and sure enough, it was a bit red and swollen.

"It is a little swollen, so I'll let you off the hook today." Evan Xiao kissed her and whispered in her ear, "Once you're all better, you owe me a proper favor..."

Grace dove back under the covers, wishing she could disappear into the floor.

But Evan Xiao pulled the covers off her again, kissed her forehead, and said, "I'm heading out for a bit. Get some more sleep. I'll come back at noon and have lunch with you, okay?"

Grace nodded.

Evan Xiao couldn't help but kiss her lips again before finally getting dressed and leaving.

Once outside, he called for Quentin Chin.

Quentin Chin asked, "General, what are your orders?"

"Get Cecilia Chen a place to stay and let her leave!"

Quentin Chin replied, "Soldiers giving their lives for the country is normal. The fact that you raised Cecilia Chen as a sister just because of a dying wish is already more than generous! Now that she's caused trouble so many times, it's best to let her go."

Evan Xiao nodded.

...

After Evan Xiao left, how could Grace possibly fall back asleep?

She quickly got up and took a morning-after pill.

She'd prepared this before even coming to the General's manor.

Just one pill would keep her safe for a whole month.

In this life, she definitely didn't want to end up with another mystery baby.

After taking the pill, she called for some water, took a shower, changed clothes, and headed back to the maid's quarters.

She hadn't eaten dinner last night, and after all that intense activity, she was starving.

It was just about breakfast time, and there was food in the maid's quarters.

But just as she arrived, she heard gut-wrenching sobs coming from Anna's room.

Was she awake?

Grace smirked, then pinched her thigh hard enough to squeeze out a few tears before walking in.

"Anna!" Grace cried miserably. "Anna! My poor, sweet sister!"

Anna's hair was a total mess, her face streaked with tears, staring at Grace in shock.

Grace sat down in front of her and said tearfully, "Anna, it's all because of me. If you hadn't been taking care of me, you wouldn't have been caught by Cecilia Chen's scheme! It's all my fault!"

Anna bit her lip and said nothing.

What on earth was going on?

She'd been confused ever since she woke up.

Wasn't Lily Bai the one who ate the drugged food? She'd seen it with her own eyes!

Weren't those two supposed to target Lily Bai? How did she end up the victim?

She just couldn't figure it out!

And yet, she couldn't ask about any of it.

Otherwise, she'd definitely arouse suspicion—and be executed.

"But hey, one of those guys lost at rock-paper-scissors, so he's agreed to marry you," Grace switched topics, continuing, "He's an officer, so you won't be too badly off if you marry him."

Anna still didn't say a word.

What did she mean, lost at rock-paper-scissors?

Did neither of them actually want her?

"And as for Cecilia Chen, the Shane Family has broken off the engagement, and the General has kicked her out of the manor. That's your revenge!" Grace wiped her tears, looking satisfied.

"You... they... why..." Anna had a million questions but couldn't ask a single one, feeling utterly miserable.
