Who Is Next

"What did you just say?!"

Jason Jiang's face changed when he heard Evan Lin's words: "You want me to kneel to Hank Chu and apologize, even call him Dad?"

"Are you out of your mind? Damn!"

At Whitewood No. 1 High, Jason Jiang is pretty popular among the students. His family’s loaded, he’s good-looking, spends freely, and knows how to be romantic—so it’s easy for him to attract a bunch of girls.

Hank Chu’s grades are decent, his basketball skills are decent, and he looks decent too. Some girls at school chase after him, but compared to Jason Jiang, he’s still a few levels below.

If Jason Jiang really had to kneel and admit defeat to Hank Chu, call him Dad, and word got out, he’d be finished at Whitewood No. 1 High.

That’s putting his pride under someone’s shoes, just to be stomped on.

"Scared?" Evan Lin raised an eyebrow. "I’m not taking advantage here. You’ve got three guys. I’ll spot you three points each, play one-on-one, or I can take on all three of you at once. Lose a single round, and I count it as my loss."

One-on-one, or one against three!

He says it so casually, as if life and death hang on his words.

Hank Chu and the others were all stunned by Evan Lin’s words.

Hank Chu rushed over, grabbed Evan Lin’s wrist, and looked anxious. "Bro, don’t! You’re just digging your own grave here!"

"Jason Jiang’s skills aren’t that great, but the other two guys—they’re really good. If you play like this, you’ve got no chance!"

Sure, Evan Lin just made a beautiful shot, but that only proves he’s accurate.

But in one-on-one, or especially one against many, accuracy isn’t the key. What matters is whether you can get the ball and have the chance to shoot.

There are just too many variables.

Hank Chu feels Evan Lin’s skills have probably improved a lot, but he just played against those guys and knows exactly how strong they are.

If Evan Lin goes up, he’ll probably lose badly.

"Count me in—make it four." Selina Shi, watching from the side, flashed four fingers at Evan Lin.

Hearing Selina Shi, Jason Jiang, who was still hesitating, suddenly steeled himself. "Fine! I accept! No advantage, just one-on-one. There are four of us. Start with me—let’s go!"

"Just like you said—if you lose a single round, you lose overall!"

After Jason Jiang finished, he turned to Allen Ju and Warren Wu, grinning: "Allen, Warren, you guys good with this?"

"Fine," Allen Ju nodded.

"Tsk, didn’t expect this kid to be so cocky," Warren Wu raised an eyebrow.

Hank Chu wanted to stop him, but Evan Lin just waved him off.

Just four in a row, that’s all.

Evan Lin walked to the center of the court.

One-on-one, bull rules, half-court.

"You take first ball."

Jason Jiang loosened up, looked at Evan Lin, and gave a cold smile.

He knew he probably couldn’t win, but at least he could wear down this guy’s stamina.

There were still three more guys after him—no matter how awesome this dude was, he couldn’t possibly beat them all.

Jason Jiang grinned and tossed the ball to Evan Lin.

Evan Lin didn’t bother with pleasantries. He took the ball, dribbled twice, stood still at half-court, looked up, and shot.

Everyone froze at Evan Lin’s action.

The smile on Jason Jiang’s face froze too. When he looked up, he heard a clang—the ball went in.

One to zero.

"That actually went in?" A guy next to Hank Chu was stunned.

"Is this a shooting contest or what? He’s way too accurate..." another guy muttered.

"Not bad, Hank Chu—your buddy’s shooting percentage is insane. Just now it was from outside, now mid-court, never misses?"

Hank Chu shook his head, feeling like this was unreal. Evan Lin seemed like a whole different person—back in the day, his basketball skills were so bad he’d miss nine out of ten shots.

"When we play, we need to stop him from getting set shots—his accuracy is scary," Allen Ju said in a steady voice.

Warren Wu nodded but didn’t look worried. "No problem, I’ll just stand in front of him and swat his shots. He’s so short—let’s see what tricks he can pull."

To Warren Wu, Evan Lin just wasn’t tall enough to be a threat.

"Damn, my turn! Loser gets the ball, right?"

Jason Jiang grabbed the ball, looked at Evan Lin, and when Evan nodded, he drove hard toward the basket.

"Watch this shot—see how it goes in!"

Jason Jiang sped up, ball in hand, and tried to pull off a self-styled, ultra-cool three-step layup.

Bang.

Just as the ball left his hand, an arm swept over his head and intercepted it mid-air.

Evan Lin grabbed the ball, ran outside the arc, then jumped and shot.

Clang.

The ball bounced off the backboard and dropped into the net.

Two to zero.

Jason Jiang’s face looked ugly.

Evan Lin raised an eyebrow. "Idiot. With skills like that, you dare to bet? You really aren’t afraid of losing."

"Go Evan! Holy crap!"

That wasn’t even a block—it was a pure mid-air interception, just snatched the ball right out.

Hank Chu realized what just happened and yelled out.

Evan Lin shot him a thumbs-up.

Warren Wu snorted, his hands itching—he couldn’t wait to get on the court.

Allen Ju’s brow furrowed ever so slightly. Evan Lin’s jump angle and explosive power had caught him off guard.

Selina Shi wrinkled her little nose, watching Evan Lin with a hint of surprise. She mumbled, "He jumps pretty quick."

In less than five minutes, the score was already two to zero.

Jason Jiang, gritting his teeth, took the ball and started play.

He’d hoped to wear this kid out, but now it looked like he never even had a chance.

After Jason Jiang inbounded, he blanked out for a second—then suddenly realized the ball was gone from his hands.

When he snapped back to reality and looked up, the ball was already dropping into the basket.

Three to zero.

Total defeat.

Jason Jiang swallowed hard, feeling like he’d lost without even knowing how—he had strength but nowhere to use it.

"Time to switch—who’s next?"

Evan Lin took the ball and strolled to mid-court, glancing at the three guys on the sideline.

"Nice one, Evan!"

Hank Chu had been a little nervous, but seeing Evan Lin show off his skills, his eyes lit up and he was all smiles.

To him, as long as Evan Lin won, nothing else mattered.

"You got this, bro! Go for it!"

"Go for it!"

"Three more to go—run through them!"

A few guys next to Hank Chu shouted loudly, their eyes on Jason Jiang now filled with contempt.
