Chapter 672: Departure
The monster had failed, but instead of despair, it burst into wild laughter. Then the swirling black mist in the sky came crashing down in a frenzy.
Leon’s heart raced with dread, a sense of impending doom gnawing at him. He hurriedly cast several defensive spells in succession.
The black mist spread through the entire space, plunging everyone’s vision into utter darkness.
Then, an unexpected change occurred—Leon’s defenses proved utterly useless. The black smoke seeped in from every possible gap, madly merging around him, and all of it surged wildly toward his body.
The monster seemed to have gone insane, burning through its power to force the black mist through Leon’s mouth, nose, and ears, invading his body.
Within seconds, Leon’s resistance collapsed under the overwhelming force. The black mist poured relentlessly into him, flooding his mouth and suffocating him from the inside.
Everyone was stunned by the sight...
Anderson forgot to control the Arcane Wheel, staring blankly at the scene, completely at a loss. When it was Reid Watson, he could attack without hesitation—if Reid died, so be it. But Leon was different...
Reina, Hubert, Seth—all were utterly dumbfounded...
What should we do?
Even someone like Red Watson, once possessed, reached the level of a Ninth-Rank Title Archmage. So after Leon is possessed, even if his rank doesn’t climb to Ninth-Rank Title Archmage, his combat power would be absolutely invincible below the Heaven Tier, wouldn’t it?
Fear...
Everyone’s minds were saturated with terror—the more they understood, the more horrifying it became. Those who spent every day with Leon knew all too well just how terrifying his combat prowess truly was...
It’s over...
Even Leon couldn’t resist the possession...
A few seconds later, all the black smoke had burrowed into Leon’s body. His expression twisted, becoming sinister and malevolent.
“Hahaha, wonderful! Absolutely wonderful! This body is stronger than any I’ve ever possessed. I’ve never seen such power before. Forcing my way in and spending so much energy was worth it. Mortal, I must thank you...”
"Leon’s" face twisted with evil, dancing madly. It had spent a vast amount of power to forcibly seize Leon’s body, and now it realized that this vessel was even stronger than expected. Ecstatic, it reveled in its new strength.
“Come, come, let me see what other memories you have. Let me seize your soul as well...”
A massive meteor fell, the world was destroyed, and then died again…
............
“What the hell are these things? My god…”
A colossal structure piercing the clouds...
Metallic birds soaring through the sky...
Metal boxes that could run without magic...
Terrifying weapons capable of striking across continents...
The moment of death...
............
A scarred, gray sky, a blood-red sun, endless storms raging through the void...
Meteors, fire, destruction...
A massive meteor fell, the world was destroyed, and then died again...
............
“What the hell are these things? My god...”
The monster let out a miserable scream—the impact of these memories hit it like a forbidden curse.
Completely unacceptable...
Unfathomable, unbearable memories exploded in its mind like a spellstorm, driving the monster to shriek in madness.
Especially this kind of probing—it was almost indistinguishable from living through it firsthand...
The most vivid memories for Leon, naturally, were the two times he died...
The complex shock of those memories, the sensation of death—all of it happened in a blink, and the monster simply broke down...
“Ah, what the hell are these things...?”
A roar burst from Leon’s mouth, and his eyes cleared. Without hesitation, he took out the necklace containing the Seed of Wisdom and solemnly placed it around his neck.
“Damn, now you know how tough the city enforcers are...”
Leon cursed, and the Seed of Wisdom began to glow. The monster’s miserable screams echoed from within Leon’s body.
Leon’s face twisted in pain. After a few seconds, he couldn’t help but open his mouth wide, and a torrent of black smoke erupted from within.
A fierce light flashed in Leon’s eyes as he unleashed his magic, shaping it into a giant hand that intercepted all the black smoke, slamming it toward the necklace on his chest.
In an instant, all of Leon’s magic surged forth, gathering the black smoke and forcefully pressing it into the Seed of Wisdom.
The monster screamed in agony as countless strands of black smoke drifted from the necklace. Its power was being annihilated, but its struggle only grew fiercer.
Gritting his teeth, Leon poured all his magic into suppressing it, clutching the necklace with both hands...
The sudden turn of events left everyone stunned. No one could make sense of what was happening—why was the monster screaming as it escaped, what were city enforcers, and how had even that monster been frightened?
Leon was still holding on, but another unexpected change occurred...
From the Blazeforge Throne came the sound of rocks cracking—the dust that had solidified on Emperor Norlick’s body shattered completely...
Emperor Norlick slowly opened his eyes and stood up from the Blazeforge Throne.
His gaze was calm and ancient as he looked down at Leon, who was still struggling to suppress the monster, and stepped down from the throne, one step at a time.
Hubert was completely stunned, his warhammer dropping to the ground as he stared blankly at Emperor Norlick’s descent.
Anderson was dazed too—even the Arcane Wheel trembled in his hands...
Reina gritted her teeth, but couldn’t even summon the courage to reach out...
Emperor Norlick descended step by step, his battered armor doing nothing to diminish his presence. Even without releasing a shred of power, his calm gaze alone exerted immense pressure on everyone...
This was Emperor Norlick...
As he walked, Emperor Norlick said quietly, "There’s no need to be nervous. I mean you no harm..."
Hearing these words, everyone relaxed—no one doubted him.

Emperor Norlick walked up to Leon and placed both hands on his shoulders. Leon, who had been focused entirely on suppressing the monster, suddenly snapped back to clarity.
Then Leon was left utterly stunned...
The monster fell completely silent, as if some invisible force had utterly subdued it.
With a solemn expression, Emperor Norlick removed the necklace from Leon’s neck and slowly placed it around his own.
Staring at the necklace, Emperor Norlick muttered to himself.
“Redbeard was right. I was wrong. I paid for my mistake. The so-called God-Demon War... was nothing but a lie.”
With that, Emperor Norlick turned and walked back toward the throne.
Standing before the throne, Emperor Norlick reached out his dust-covered hands and gave a gentle tug...
Emperor Norlick is really petty. I did all the dirty work, revived all the undead, and he just took off with everything. He doesn’t even need the scepter anymore, so why not leave it for me? Seriously, I’ve never seen anyone so stingy…
Leon fumed. Without the Spellbook of Ages, things were going to get tricky…
Leon glared at the throne, cursing under his breath. At some point, Xiu Ban had sidled up next to him, cautiously brushing against Leon’s side.
“Master Merlin…”
Leon was still in the middle of his tantrum, gritting his teeth as he shot Xiu Ban a glare.
“What is it?”
Xiu Ban’s face was odd, and he pointed at Leon’s feet, lowering his voice but still sounding almost normal.
“Master Merlin, is this what you were talking about?”
Leon looked down and saw a book at his feet. The runes on its cover were unmistakably those of the Spellbook of Ages…
Leon’s face flushed red. He laughed awkwardly, but his hands moved fast, snatching up the Spellbook of Ages with a quick shout.
“Ha… Emperor Norlick just loves his jokes. But he’s not such a bad guy, really…”
Everyone watched Leon, giving him an awkward laugh.
Heh heh…
Leon didn’t care about being laughed at. Instead, he happily examined the Spellbook of Ages.
On the cover of the Spellbook of Ages, a crystal wheel appeared faintly…
It seems the key to controlling the Dauntless lies in the Spellbook of Ages… Leon realized.
Opening to the first page, Leon saw dense arrays of zero-level spell incantations—at least a hundred.
The second page also contained many incantations, but these were for first- and second-level spells.
The third page contained third- and fourth-level spells; the fourth page, fifth- and sixth-level spells.
These corresponded exactly to the ranks of apprentice, mage, archmage, and magus.
When Leon tried to turn to the fifth page, he found it was stuck—no matter what, he couldn’t turn it.
Leon realized why—he was now an eighth-level magus, so he could only view the first four pages, which held spells up to the magus rank.
When he turned back to the first page, he found the incantations had completely changed—they were a whole new set.
