Chapter 447: The Elemental Chapter

"Ah..." Leon was completely stunned. He naturally knew who Lord Shaun was referring to—a member of the Third Dynasty’s royal family who left behind the Bloodline Curse in the floating palace. And that person was, in all likelihood, Barris. Leon asked in disbelief, "Don’t all the royal members of the Third Dynasty only leave behind a Bloodline Curse after death, Lord Shaun? Are you sure you’re not mistaken? If that person isn’t dead, how could there be a Bloodline Curse?"

"He really did die once, Merlin. You should know a thing or two about Bloodline Curse, right? Saves me the trouble of explaining everything." Lord Shaun waved his paw impatiently.

"Yeah, of course I know." Leon nodded. "It’s a power inherited through their bloodline, and the closer the relation, the stronger the curse..."

"When I said he’s still alive, I meant his soul still exists. And judging by the strength of the Bloodline Curse, he was at the Heavenly Tier when alive." Lord Shaun was already running out of patience. "Merlin, everything’s been settled and said—just hand over the Mana Crystal to Lord Shaun."

"Wait..." Leon suddenly remembered something and pointed at Solan Monty, who was trembling off to the side. "Lord Shaun, help me with one last thing, then I’ll give you the Mana Crystal. You—handle him..."

"Bloody hell!"

Upon hearing Leon’s request, Lord Shaun cursed outright, but for the sake of the soon-to-be-acquired Mana Crystal, he had no choice but to comply. He strode toward Solan Monty...

"You—you... Don’t come any closer..."

Solan Monty was already scared out of his wits. From the moment Lord Shaun appeared, only a few hours had passed, but his fear of Lord Shaun had already surpassed his fear of Leon. Bound by flaming chains, even his attempt to shrink back was agonizingly slow...

What’s going on…?

Leon frowned deeply. He’d never encountered this before. Of all the magical artifacts he possessed, the Death Tome had been with him the longest—and it held the greatest potential. Once he gathered the key components, it could become a transcendent artifact!

And the Death Tome was far from simple. Even Heavenly Tier Mage Bain spent his whole life researching it, yet died without ever uncovering its true secrets.

The Death Tome was practically Leon’s most vital artifact; any change in it tugged at his nerves. Its sudden anomaly made him sit at his desk, staring at the tome in deep thought…

Could a key component have appeared?

Leon’s eyes lit up, his gaze growing feverish. The Death Tome’s key components were all at the True Spirit level—some worth even more than ordinary True Spirit artifacts. Excited by the thought, he put the Death Tome away, left his desk, and began searching meticulously.

Even if it was just a hunch, he wouldn’t let it go—after all, these were the Death Tome’s key components!

He was especially thorough with the bookshelves, flipping through every book and searching every nook and cranny. Half an hour passed with no results, but the Death Tome in his pocket still showed no sign of calming down… Frowning, he realized the study wasn’t large—he’d checked every spot, found nothing of value, let alone a key component of the Death Tome.

Where could it be…?

Settling back at his desk, Leon grew anxious. He gathered his thoughts and began scanning the study’s layout again—four rows of shelves, nearly a thousand books, and only his desk left. He was almost certain there were no hidden compartments in the cramped study; he’d checked every wall recently, finding no alchemy arrays or mechanisms.

Still, the Death Tome wouldn’t start acting up for no reason…

Just as he was racking his brain, four books on the edge of the shelves caught his eye. He remembered they all had something to do with space magic…

Spotting the clue, he grabbed the four books and sprawled over his desk, flipping through them page by page. After ten minutes, he’d skimmed them all, then reached for a stack of draft paper and a quill, scribbling calculations.

The Death Tome was practically Leon’s most vital artifact; any change in it tugged at his nerves. Its sudden anomaly made him sit at his desk, staring at the tome in deep thought…

Knowing Ronan’s style, he already had a hunch…

This was probably another one of Ronan’s tests!

The space magic described in the four books wasn’t advanced, but breaking down the formulas and trying to assemble them was an enormous task. Ninety-nine percent of mages would give up without hesitation—the sheer amount of calculation seemed impossible.

But Leon was different…

Back on the twelfth floor of the Mage Tower, he’d already mastered Ronan’s methods. Ronan loved to overcomplicate things—simple problems became fiendishly complex in his hands. Thanks to that, Leon avoided many pitfalls in his calculations.

Take assembling formulas, for example—Ronan would boldly try to fuse two nearly incompatible formulas. Sometimes he succeeded, sometimes he failed.

Just the Six-Formula Balance Law Leon acquired was full of innovations—some aspects were unknown even in the golden age of magic. All thanks to Ronan’s boldness and willingness to experiment.

After more than six hours of calculations, Leon’s wrist was sore. He finally set down his quill; the desk was piled high with discarded drafts. Completing such a massive workload in six hours—even a Heavenly Tier mage would be shocked.

But Leon really did finish…

Stretching, he flexed his aching wrist and paced the study, frowning. After a few minutes circling the cramped room, he stopped between the two center shelves, furrowed his brow, and muttered a spell. Instantly, his Doom Staff glimmered with silver light as he traced a line before him…

It really was just a gentle swipe.

Yet, unbelievably, after the swipe, Leon reached out and grabbed—a surge of powerful magic rippled through his hand…

Elemental Chapter!

Seeing what he held, Leon was startled—a crystal sphere the size of a Mana Crystal, showing four distinct colors. Gripping the Elemental Chapter, Leon could sense four separate energies—earth, water, fire, and wind—flowing within, yet perfectly balanced.

He’d already recognized what it was…

The Elemental Chapter was practically the core component of the Death Tome. He could hardly believe it had ended up in Ronan’s Mage Tower.

For a moment, he was overwhelmed with joy.

Ronan really was a genius… Leon couldn’t help but praise him. Grasping the Elemental Chapter, lingering doubts melted away. Back in the floating palace, the Mana Crystals he’d found all contained earth, water, fire, and wind elements. He’d wondered if they were artificially made.

Now it seemed clear—Ronan probably crafted those Mana Crystals using the principles of the Elemental Chapter.

That’s exactly why Leon admired Ronan. Throughout Northend World’s magical civilization, no one had ever tried combining all four elements in a Mana Crystal, let alone implanting it in a magical beast. And those beasts, even after the Mana Crystal swap, could still cast spells normally.

It was an astonishing innovation.

Leon even wondered if he could borrow the technique, try crafting a Mana Crystal with all four elements to power his damaged Heavenly Tier puppet.

Just the thought made his eyes burn with excitement…

Leaning over his desk, Leon studied the Elemental Chapter. Coming from thirty thousand years in the future, he knew its value well. A millennium later, a mage named Barris once possessed the Elemental Chapter.
