News of Evan Yang's reappearance at the Guard Hall quickly reached Green Guard Gavin's ears. When Gavin heard it, his face showed shock and disbelief as he muttered again and again, "Impossible, impossible!"
Gavin muttered to himself for quite a while before hurriedly getting up to look for the other guards. The others were all recovering from their injuries in seclusion, never expecting Evan Yang would return, so Gavin couldn't find them.
Faced with this situation, Gavin could only seek out Eldon Liu.
When Eldon Liu heard the news, he angrily scolded, "Didn't you say you lured him there?"
"That's right, we did lure him there, but he somehow came out." Gavin replied, feeling frustrated.
"Useless! Impossible, you can't fool me. With his cultivation, there's no way he could come out of there!" Eldon Liu said, refusing to believe it.
"Protector Liu, we really did lure him in. As for why things turned out this way, I have no idea," Gavin shook his head and said.
"Useless. You can go now." Gavin nodded, then turned to leave. Just before he left, Eldon Liu waved his hand, sending a streak of light straight at the back of Gavin's head.
Gavin froze for a moment, then rubbed the back of his head, as if he'd suddenly remembered something he needed to do.
"A bunch of useless idiots!" Eldon Liu cursed inwardly.
Soon Eldon Liu calmed down and grew curious that Evan Yang had survived. He muttered to himself, "The Holy Saintess really found herself a good one."
Evan Yang had no idea Eldon Liu was talking about him. At that moment, he was with Galen Chao. When Galen saw Evan, he exclaimed with delight, "You're finally back!"
"Sorry to make you worry, Steward Chao. Did the Holy Saintess ever look for me?" Evan Yang asked.
"Of course she did. She looked for you several times. By the way, where exactly did you go? What happened?" Galen Chao asked.
Evan Yang told Galen everything about where he'd been and what had happened. When Galen finished listening, he was shocked. "What? You really went there?"
"Yeah, why?" Evan Yang asked.
"Impossible. Without Immortal Sovereign-level strength, no one can come out of there," Galen Chao said, not believing it.
Evan Yang smiled, "But I still made it out."
"Are you sure you went there?" Galen Chao asked again.
Evan Yang nodded. Knowing Evan wouldn't lie about something like this, Galen didn't hesitate and brought Evan straight to the Holy Saintess.
At that moment, the Holy Saintess sat quietly in a pavilion, surrounded by the fragrance of flowers, but her heart always felt like something was missing, as if she'd lost something important.
When Evan Yang and Galen Chao appeared, the Holy Saintess's expression instantly brightened, but she quickly suppressed it. Before Galen could speak, she asked, "Where did you go? If you went somewhere else, why didn't you report to Steward Chao?"
Evan Yang replied awkwardly, "It happened so suddenly, I didn't have time to report."
"Didn't have time? What exactly happened? Tell me everything," the Holy Saintess demanded. At the same time, she felt relieved that Evan Yang was finally back—her worries were released, like a taut string finally loosened.
Evan Yang recounted his ordeal to the Holy Saintess. After hearing it, she still couldn't believe Evan could escape, but since he really had, she said, "Those four, I'll punish them right away."
"That won't work. Without evidence, we can't convict them," Galen Chao said.
"Isn't there the Memory Divine Mirror? Let Evan Yang enter it—his memories will be there. I refuse to believe that won't be enough to convict them," the Holy Saintess said.
Galen Chao thought for a moment and said, "If we do that, all of Evan Yang's memories will be exposed to everyone."
Evan Yang didn't know what the Memory Divine Mirror was, so he asked curiously, "What exactly is it?"
Galen Chao explained everything about searching for Green Guard Gavin and the Memory Divine Mirror. After Evan Yang finished listening, he frowned and said, "Is that really how it happened?"
"That's right. The Memory Divine Mirror really does have that function," Galen Chao said.
Evan Yang thought for a moment. If they really did this, all his memories would be exposed, including his cultivation secrets, which he didn't want. After thinking it over, he said, "I don't think this method will work. My memories and Green Guard Gavin's memories are different—so who would the Hall of Judgment believe?"
The Holy Saintess frowned. Evan was right—if Gavin's memories were different, it would be hard to judge who was telling the truth.
Faced with this, Evan Yang thought for a moment and said, "Logically, Green Guard Gavin should have memories of me. What's going on? Holy Saintess, do you have any idea?"
"I don't really know. You'd better ask Steward Chao," the Holy Saintess replied.
Galen Chao looked at the Holy Saintess, then at Evan Yang, and said, "There's one possibility: his memories were altered. And the only one who could have done that is Eldon Liu."
"Oh? Altered memories? There's such an ability?" Evan Yang was surprised. The Holy Saintess also frowned. "That's right. The Temple of Light has a technique like that. It's said no one has succeeded in cultivating it, but over the years, some people's memories have disappeared or new memories have suddenly appeared. Many Protectors now suspect someone has secretly practiced this technique," Galen Chao explained.
"Are you talking about the Light-Memory Divine Art of the Temple of Light?" the Holy Saintess seemed to recall something.
"Yes, that's the technique," Galen Chao said.
"Could it be that Eldon Liu learned that technique?" the Holy Saintess asked suspiciously.
"Other Protectors also suspect him, but there's no evidence," Galen Chao sighed.
"Then what should we do? We can't just let him run wild forever!" the Holy Saintess said angrily.
"Some Protectors once thought of a solution: have someone cultivate the Light-Memory Divine Art. Only by succeeding could they counter and break Eldon Liu's technique," Galen Chao said.
"When did this happen? Why didn't I know about it?" the Holy Saintess asked suspiciously.
"It was long ago, before you regained consciousness. People discovered Eldon Liu had tampered with your mind, but your strength was too great for him to change your memories. Still, you lost part of them," Galen Chao explained.
"What? My amnesia is his doing? Why didn't any Protector tell me!" the Holy Saintess shouted in anger.
Galen Chao said, "Holy Saintess, please don't be angry. Let me explain."
The Holy Saintess calmed herself and listened curiously as Galen Chao spoke. Evan Yang looked surprised—this was beyond his understanding. The idea that someone's memories could be altered was new to him, and he was even more shocked that the Holy Saintess had experienced this. He wondered what memories had been sealed, and what connection they might have to Hannah Nangong.
Galen Chao explained: before the Holy Saintess regained consciousness, the other Protectors discovered Eldon Liu had tried to tamper with her mind. He failed to change her memories and only managed to seal them, but there was no evidence. So no one could do anything about Eldon Liu. They also didn't name him openly, fearing he'd escape—catching him would then be much harder, since the Protectors' powers are evenly matched.
After hearing Galen Chao's explanation, the Holy Saintess couldn't stay calm. She was furious—no matter how gentle a person is, faced with this, she'd want to confront Eldon Liu and force him to confess. But without evidence, who could prove Eldon Liu had done such a thing?
This was exactly why Eldon Liu dared to act recklessly—he relied on possibly cultivating that forbidden art.
"Are we just going to let him get away with this?" the Holy Saintess said angrily.
"No, the other Protectors have already discussed it. They were just waiting to tell you," Galen Chao said.
"Discussed what?" the Holy Saintess asked.
"They want to find someone who can cultivate the Light-Memory Divine Art. If someone succeeds, they'll be able to counter Eldon Liu's technique," Galen Chao said.
"Have they chosen someone? Which Protector will cultivate it?" the Holy Saintess asked.
Galen Chao replied awkwardly, "Actually, all the Protectors have tried, but none succeeded because..."
"Because why?" the Holy Saintess asked.
"Because cultivating this art requires someone with purple-light attributes. Even the Holy Saintess can't cultivate it, let alone the Protectors of the Temple of Light," Galen Chao explained.
"Purple light? Who in the Temple of Light could possibly have purple-light attributes? Could Eldon Liu be one? Impossible! That's a divine light—how could it appear in him?" the Holy Saintess said.
"Other Protectors have wondered too. They say Eldon Liu must have used some method to succeed, but nobody dares ask him—otherwise, he'd quickly realize something was up," Galen Chao said.
"Isn't that pointless? First, we can't find anyone with purple light. Second, we can't find the method," the Holy Saintess said anxiously.
"Um, can I say something?" Evan Yang spoke up.
"Of course," the Holy Saintess replied.
"Purple light—what level does it have to be? Is it enough just to possess purple light?" Evan Yang asked.
Galen Chao understood what Evan Yang meant and shook his head. "It doesn't matter how strong it is—as long as it's purple light. But you can't, because yours is mixed with white light. It has to be pure."
The Holy Saintess asked curiously, "Yours is white light mixed with purple light?"
"It used to be," Evan Yang replied.
"Used to be?" The Holy Saintess didn't understand, and Galen Chao was also curious what Evan Yang meant.
Evan Yang held out his hand, and a pure purple light appeared. Both Galen Chao and the Holy Saintess were stunned. Galen exclaimed, "Wait, during the last test, didn't you have white light mixed with purple? How is it now..."
"Now it's almost all purple light," Evan Yang said with a smile.
"Right, how did that happen?" Galen Chao asked in surprise.
"I'm not sure. When I was in that place, after some time, it just happened," Evan Yang replied.
After hearing Evan Yang's explanation, the Holy Saintess frowned, while Galen Chao suddenly laughed, "I understand now."
"Steward Chao, what's going on?" the Holy Saintess asked suspiciously. Galen Chao explained, "Holy Saintess, since you can't remember the past, you might not know. But our Temple of Light has a legend: if someone with multiple light attributes trains there, their attributes may change and become singular. If they're lucky, they'll get a stronger light. Evan Yang started with white and purple light, and he was fortunate enough to shift to pure purple light." Galen Chao said joyfully.
