Should We Abort It
Mrs. Penny still wore that enchanting smile, her body leaning forward as she lay on Sean Hayes's chest. "I know, but once I forgot to take my medicine, so..."
Sean Hayes lowered his eyes, gazing at Mrs. Penny's fair shoulder. His chest heaved much more intensely.
Mrs. Penny moved away from Sean Hayes's embrace, leaning against the edge of the bathtub, resting her head on her arm. She gently touched her lower abdomen and whispered, "This child, I'll brew some medicine and take care of it myself... But after drinking that medicine, I'll be weak for a while and unable to carry out missions, so I'm letting you know in advance. If there's a task, have someone else replace me."
"You—you don't want this child?" Sean Hayes reached out, covering Mrs. Penny's hand, feeling the softness of her belly.
"You and I both know—we're Hayes Family Shadow Guards. Our lives belong to the Prince; we can't have descendants." Mrs. Penny looked up, smiling at Sean Hayes. "So of course I'll get rid of it. What else did you expect...?"
"Get rid of it..." Sean Hayes lowered his head, staring at the pale skin reflected in the water, imagining beneath it a tiny cluster of flesh and blood—his and Mrs. Penny's child.
Is it really going to end like this?
Suddenly, Sean Hayes felt as if something was tightly gripping his heart, a suffocating pain that threatened to choke him.
Are we really going to get rid of this child?
Mrs. Penny looked at Sean Hayes's conflicted expression and seemed much more at ease. She patted his face, her smile alluring. "Female shadow guards can't get pregnant or have children. I'm already breaking the organization's rules by doing this. I'll handle it myself and won't cause too much trouble for the organization. Commander Sean, don't worry."
Sean Hayes looked up at Mrs. Penny's seemingly calm face, and it felt as if invisible steel knives were stabbing into his heart. Suddenly, he felt like he couldn't breathe and pulled Mrs. Penny tightly into his arms, murmuring, "No, this isn't right. It shouldn't be like this..."
"Then how should it be?" Mrs. Penny's voice sounded soft, stripped of its usual flirtatiousness, leaving only gentle tenderness.
"This is... our child. How can we just get rid of it like that..." Sean Hayes hugged Mrs. Penny tightly, feeling completely miserable.
"Because we're Hayes Family Shadow Guards. Are you really going to betray the Prince for this child?" Mrs. Penny's voice was as soft as water. She opened her arms and gently wrapped them around Sean Hayes's waist, whispering in his ear, "Little Sean, don't worry. I'll take care of it."
"No, absolutely not!" Sean Hayes pulled Mrs. Penny tightly into his arms.
"We are both commanders of the Hayes Family Shadow Guard. We know the rules... Don't be impulsive, Xiao Yun." Mrs. Penny gently patted Sean Hayes's back, comforting him as if coaxing a child.
"There must be another way!" Sean Hayes grabbed Mrs. Penny's shoulders, looking at her anxiously. "I'll go plead with the Prince, ask him to let us keep the child... We've followed the Prince for so many years, loyal and devoted—maybe he'll show mercy. Or, we can plead with the Princess Consort! She's gentle and kind, and understanding. If we beg her, she might agree to let us keep the child. If the Princess Consort speaks up, the Prince will surely listen to her!"
"But what if the Prince refuses? The Hayes Family Shadow Guard is famous for its strict discipline—no one can break the rules. If even we, as commanders, don't obey, how will we lead our subordinates in the future?" Mrs. Penny gazed at Sean Hayes, her eyes gentle yet resolute. "Don't forget, there was once a female shadow guard who secretly got pregnant. And the result? Her corpse was probably long ago fed to wild wolves in the wilderness, turned to ashes."
