Pulling Strings

With the wedding banquet over, the Dragon-Chen Legion reassembled in formation. This time, the legion’s main forces were completely transformed—the abundance of stars and Starstone resources had instantly made them much stronger.

Plus, with the addition of Red Lark’s former troops, all sorts of talented specialists appeared among the ranks—including quite a few striking beauties.

Of course, the most eye-catching part was still Evan Chu’s harem legion, which was currently assembling at the rear. Though officially under the Dragon-Chen Legion, they had their own separate organization—and their leader, unsurprisingly, was Lydia Hong.

One day, Evan Chu, Nathan Yates, and Lance Li appeared together at the front of the legion. They stood tall and unmoving, gazing off into the distance.

The scene looked bizarre—countless experts below, yet only two early-stage Saint Venerables stood at the very front. Everyone had to bow to these two, not daring to meet their eyes.

Evan Chu glanced one last time into the distance, then suddenly said, “They’re coming.”

"They’re coming? You saw them? Impressive!"

Desmond Mansfield gave a wry smile. He knew he was far inferior to Evan Chu, but surely not by this much? It was only eight breaths after Evan spoke that he finally sensed something. And his star-gazing bloodline was supposed to make him more attuned to stellar forces than most.

But Evan Chu was clearly even more monstrous. Judging by the speed of the new batch of starships appearing in the distance, eight breaths was enough to cross a thousand stellar miles. That meant Evan’s affinity for the power radiating from stars and Starstones was at least three times stronger than his!

"Enough. Just do your job. Did you deliver the invitation?"

"Alright, they're here."

Desmond Mansfield's eyes lit up as he saw the rest of the Dragon-Chen Legion arriving, his gaze flashing with a keen light. The commander leading them was none other than Nathan Star, but something seemed off about the vanguard troops he brought.

Not only had all their starships been refurbished to the highest grade, but even among the legion's soldiers, there were many new elite faces. And everyone was wearing the latest Star-Armor, all of impressive quality.

"Nathan Star, what's going on here?"

Evan Chu frowned, suddenly noticing that the soldiers' armor bore not only the Dragon-Chen insignia, but also the Frostbane Dynasty's totem.

"Throne Lord, is something wrong?"

"What's wrong? I'm asking you what's going on! Why aren't our soldiers wearing the armor I ordered for you from Star-Treasure Pavilion?"

"Reporting to Throne Lord! After the war, Frostbane Dynasty held a grand reward ceremony. I attended as your representative, so..."

"So that's what I'm seeing now? Idiot!"

Evan Chu was furious. Some Dragon-Chen Legion soldiers were already being corrupted by self-interest, and many strangers had been inserted into the ranks. Yet Nathan Star was still so pleased with himself?

"Come with me!"

Evan Chu glared fiercely at Nathan Star, and Nathan Yates's expression also turned sour.

He'd followed Evan Chu the longest, and by now understood him very well.

From the start, Evan Chu had personally built and managed the Dragon-Chen Legion, making sure its foundation was absolutely clean. But now, someone was clearly trying to sabotage him.

Up until now, the Dragon-Chen Legion was entirely Evan Chu's private fighting force. Even though it carried the Frostbane Dynasty's Dragon-Chen Legion name, every operation was independent, and in this war for dynastic supremacy, Evan fought on multiple fronts and ultimately won a great victory.

During this time, every mission and deployment of the Dragon-Chen Legion was handled by Evan Chu alone, almost entirely outside the Frostbane Dynasty's control.

This kind of rapid, independent growth made the legion strong, but it also posed a real threat to the dynasty. Right now, some in the Frostbane Dynasty seemed to realize Dragon-Chen had gone too far...

At first, Lance Li still listened to the Frostbane Dynasty, but as time passed, that influence completely faded. The Hall Master he once followed was utterly shocked!

"Nathan Star! Is your brain full of holes?!"

Inside the Chaos Trial World, Evan Chu looked at Nathan Star and scolded him bitterly, frustrated beyond words.

"I know it's not right to do this, but... I'm just a low-ranking commander sent to attend the reward ceremony on your behalf. Whatever the higher-ups say, how could I dare argue? Who gets rewarded or promoted isn't up to me—no matter what, I just have to accept it..."

"Nonsense! Of course I know it's not your decision, but why did you bring these people here? Couldn't you have put them somewhere else? Are you brainless?!"

"Uh... Yes, that was my mistake..." Nathan Star finally realized his error; he'd basically let outsiders keep watch right at Evan Chu's side!

"Enough, it's too late for excuses. Now tell me, who were the soldiers forced into the Dragon-Chen Legion? At the reward ceremony, who was making the decisions? When you visited the Frostbane Dynasty's base star-region, did you notice anything strange?"

"Understood... I'll report everything to you, Throne Lord!"

Nathan Star took a moment to recall, then began reporting to Evan Chu, who listened intently to every word. He knew someone had already started interfering with him.
