Powerful Enemies Invade, Jinling in Peril

1/5/2026

For three whole days and nights, Ryan Ling was out cold—totally unconscious, not a shred of feeling left, basically dead. The nuclear blast had shredded him to pieces; it was like his whole body, inside and out, had just vanished.

The nuke was just way too strong. Ryan took the worst hit of his life, but the split-second it went off, his first instinct was to shield Sophia Long. With his defenses, maybe he had a shot at surviving, but if Sophia was left exposed, she’d be 100% dead!

So in that clutch moment, Ryan wrapped every ounce of his Primeval Heavenwood defense around Sophia Long. She turned into a giant silkworm cocoon, and right as the nuke exploded, Ryan burned his last strength to tunnel a hundred meters underground. No clue if they’d survive down there, but that was all he could do!

Maybe this was just where his story had to end. Ryan had two quick thoughts, then sank back into darkness, like he really was dead for good.

"Ghost Elder, what now? The kid’s body is totally wrecked. We barely managed to keep his divine sense together, but it’s so fragile it could vanish any second!"

"We have to find a way to stabilize it, no matter what. If he fades, he’s really done for. Luckily, there’s a hot spring down here that’s giving a little protection, and his Primeval Heavenwood—yeah, it took massive damage, but it also grew a lot. The nuke’s radiation is slowly dropping, so maybe once his soul settles, we can start piecing his body back together!"

"We’ll just have to take it one step at a time. Even having a tiny chance to survive is already a miracle. Now it’s all up to his willpower!"

......

Right now, Ghost Elder and Granny Soul were chatting helplessly, while a faint veil of soul-qi protected Ryan. He was basically at death’s door, but at least his life was hanging on by a thread!

But this time the damage was just insane. If he wanted a full recovery, he’d need some ultra-rare treasure or miracle elixir.

"Hey, Ghost Elder, how come there’s suddenly a hot spring here? And the spring seems to have a faint trace of divine power—it didn’t even collapse under the nuke! That’s wild!"

"Probably hooked up to some earth vein, but the tiny bit of earth-vein spirit power here is way too weak to help Ryan’s body—it’s basically nothing. We should try heading to the Netherworld and see if there’s a shot at life. I bet with this kid in trouble, the whole Southriver Region is about to go nuts. The World Dominion Society definitely won’t let him off, and the powers behind him won’t give him a break either!"

The two ghost experts nodded to each other. Since Ryan Ling had officially recognized Lord Yama as his adoptive father, the Netherworld probably wouldn’t ignore this mess. As the nuclear aura faded, Ghost Elder and Granny Soul had a flash of inspiration and dove underground, heading for the Netherworld to search for a lifeline.

......

But just as Ryan Ling hit rock bottom, shockwaves started rattling the Southriver Region.

Right then, in a quiet villa outside Goldridge City, Ryan Qingyun and Grace Zhou—Ryan’s parents—collapsed to the floor. News of Ryan Ling’s ‘disaster’ in Japan had already reached home, and tons of people just couldn’t accept it. For his parents, the grief was so bad they almost fainted from crying.

The teams sent to Japan hadn’t returned yet; basically, only a few trusted allies were holding down Goldridge City. General Kenneth Li had pulled almost all Goldridge Military Region troops to the front, leaving just one division in the city. Jinbiao Chen and his East River crew, plus Serena Yan and some of the Yan Family, were left running the show.

Everyone was feeling bleak. Sure, China had scored a massive win in this war, but for them, it was like their whole world had turned gray.

"Don’t give up hope yet! The Central Military Commission is sending out teams to search for survivors. Yeah, a ton of people died this time, but you know Ryan Ling—he might still make it!"

"Exactly! He wiped out all of Chiba Shrine, killed Japan’s strongest, took down the Great Shō War-God, slaughtered the entire Itagaki Brigade, and even crushed the U.S. base’s elite troops solo! Every single thing Ryan Ling did in Japan was earth-shattering—I refuse to believe a guy like that would die so easily. He’s gotta be alive!"

"I believe in miracles too—and tons of forums in China, all the Ryan Ling fans, they’re convinced he’s not dying that easy. He’ll be back, it’s just a matter of time!"

......

Seeing Ryan’s parents so crushed, Jinbiao Chen, Simon Sun and the rest of the old East River crew all tried to comfort them. The two elders’ faces finally looked a little better.

"There are a lot of people stationed near Japan, but they’re definitely short on medical staff. I’ve decided to take my whole Divine Medicine Valley team—we’ve got miracle meds, and I just got a bunch of reviving lingzhi. I want to go to Japan, maybe they’ll help!" Simon Sun and Cindy Sun stepped forward, clearly ready to go. Even if there’s only a one percent chance, they’ll pay a hundred times the price.

"Alright, Old Sun, go now! I’ve already arranged the plane—get moving, and please, please find Ryan Ling and bring him home alive. Don’t worry about things here!" Jinbiao Chen gritted his teeth and urged them on.

"Medicine King Sun, I’m coming with you!"

"Me too! I have to see Ryan Ling, even if it’s just his body!"

"Yeah, I’m going too—even if I die, I want to die with Ryan Ling!"

When Simon Sun said he was leaving, Anqi Chen, Sophie Su and the others all stood up. Their care and longing for Ryan Ling was second only to his parents!
